In this paper, we propose a packet scheduling algorithm for cellular relay networks by considering relay selection, variation of channel quality, and packet delay. In the networks, mobile users are equipped with not only cellular but also user relaying radio interfaces, where base station exploits adaptive high speed downlink channel. Our proposed algorithm selects a user with good cellular channel condition as a relay station for other users with bad cellular channel condition but can get access to relay link with good quality. This can achieve flexible packet scheduling by adjusting transmission rates of cellular link. Packets are scheduled for transmission depending on scheduling indexes which are calculated based on user's achieved transmission rate, packet utility, and proportional fairness of their throughput. The performance results obtained by using computer simulation show that the proposed scheduling algorithm is able to achieve high network capacity, low packet loss, and good fairness in terms of received throughput of mobile users.

Media Access Control (MAC) Protocol in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN standard supports two types of services, synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous real-time traffic is served by Point Coordination Function (PCF) that implements polling access method. Asynchronous nonreal-time traffic is provided by Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) based on Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol. Since real-time traffic is sensitive to delay, and nonreal-time traffic to error and throughput, proper traffic scheduling algorithm needs to be designed. But it is known that the standard IEEE 802.11 scheme is insufficient to serve real-time traffic. In this paper, real-time traffic scheduling and admission control algorithm is proposed. To satisfy the deadline violation probability of the real time traffic the downlink traffic is scheduled before the uplink by Earliest Due Date (EDD) rule. Admission of real-time connection is controlled to satisfy the minimum throughput of nonreal-time traffic which is estimated by exponential smoothing. Simulation is performed to have proper system capacity that satisfies the Quality of Service (QoS) requirement. Tradeoff between real-time and nonreal-time stations is demonstrated. The admission control and the EDD with downlink-first scheduling are illustrated to be effective for the real-time traffic in the wireless LAN.

In wireless mobile environments, large bandwidth and high QoS (Quality of Service) are recently required to support the increased demands for multimedia services. LTE (Long Term Evolution) is one of the promising solutions for the next generation broadband wireless access systems. To efficiently use downlink resource and effectively support QoS, packet scheduling algorithm is one of the important features in LTE system. In this paper, we proposed DAPS (Delay-Aware Packet Scheduling) algorithm to consider QoS requirements of delays for various traffic classes as well as channel condition and fairness. To reflect delay experiences at scheduling instance, DAPS observes how queue waiting time of packet is closed to maximum allowable delay. The simulation results show that the DAPS algorithm yields better performance for delay experience by increasing the number of transmitted packets with satisfying the required delay time compared with existing scheduling algorithms.
The downlink rate scheduling problem is considered for CDMA networks with multiple users carrying packets of heterogeneous traffic (voice/audio only, bursty data only or mixed traffic), with each type having its own distinct quality of service requirements. Several rate scheduling algorithms are developed, the common factor of which is that part of the decision on which users to serve is based on a function of the deadline of their head-ofline packets. An approach of Andrews et al., in which the basic Earliest-Deadline-First algorithm is studied for similar systems, is extended to result in better performance by considering a more efficient power usage and by allowing service of more than one user per timeslot if the power resources permit it. Finally, the performance of the proposed schemes is compared through simulations.

This paper aims to find a suitable solution to joint allocation of sub-channel and transmit power for multiple users in an IEEE 802.16e OFDMA/TDD cellular system. We propose the FASA (Fairness insured Aggressive Sub-channel Allocation) algorithm, which is a dynamic channel allocation algorithm that considers all of the users' channel state information conditionally in order to maximize throughput while taking into account fairness. A dynamic power allocation algorithm, i.e., an improved CHC algorithm, is also proposed in combination with the FASA algorithm. It collects the extra downlink transmit power and re-allocates it to other potential users. Simulation results show that the joint allocation scheme with the improved CHC power allocation algorithm provides an additional increase of sector throughput while simultaneously enhancing fairness. Four frames of time delay for CQI feedback and scheduling are considered. Furthermore, by addressing the difference between uplink and downlink scheduling in an IEEE 802.16e OFDMA TDD system, we can employ the uplink channel information directly via channel sounding, resulting in more accurate uplink dynamic resource allocation.
In this paper, we propose a packet scheduling algorithm that assigns different number of HS-PDSCH(High Speed Primary Downlink Shared Channel) to the service user according to the received signal to interference ratio of CPICH(Common Pilot Channel) and to the traffic characteristics. Assigned channel number is determined by the signal to interference ratio level from CPICH. The highest signal to interference ratio user gets the number of channels based on the signal to interference ratio table and the remained channels are assigned to the other level users. Therefore the proposed scheme can provide the similar maximum service throughput and higher fairness than existing scheduling algorithm. Simulation results show that our algorithm can provide the similar maximum service throughput and higher fairness than MAX C/I algorithm and can also support the higher service throughput than proportional fairness scheme.

In this paper, we consider a wireless multimedia environment to service both real-time video traffic and non-real-time WWW-application traffic In our suggested new packet scheduling algorithm, we consider both the accumulation counter and SIR to reduce delay in real-time traffic. In addition, our packet scheduling algorithm gives priority first to real-time video traffic service and then to non-real-time internet Packet service when real-time traffic service is absent. From the simulation results, we find that the AC (Accumulation Counter) scheme has much smaller delay than the conversional M-LWDF scheme for real-time video data users, which has a special quality sensitive to its own delay. We also consider the transmission structure of using both the frame period in the time-axis and the OVSF codes in the code-axis at the same time, which is similar to the structure of HSDPA system.

To provide a guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) to real-time traffic in High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) core network, we proposed an enhanced mechanism. For an enhanced QoS, a Class-Based Low Latency Fair Queueing (CBLLFQ) packet scheduling algorithm is introduced in this work. Packet classification, metering, queuing, and scheduling using differentiated services (DiffServ) environment was the points in focus. To classify different types of real-time voice and multimedia traffic, the QoS provisioning mechanisms use different DiffServ code points (DSCP).The proposed algorithm is based on traffic classes which efficiently require the guarantee of services and specified level of fairness. In CBLLFQ, a mapping criterion and an efficient queuing mechanism for voice, video and other traffic in separate queues are used. It is proved, that the algorithm enhances the throughput and fairness along with a reduction in the delay and packet loss factors for smooth and worst traffic conditions. The results calculated through simulation show that the proposed calculations meet the QoS prerequisites efficiently.

In order to enhance system energy efficiency, bidirectional link resource allocation strategy in GFDM-based multiuser SWIPT systems is proposed. In the downlink channel, each SWIPT user applies power splitting (PS) receiver structure in information decoding (ID) and non-linear energy harvesting (EH). In the uplink channel, information transmission power is originated from the harvested energy. An optimization problem is constructed to maximize weighted sum ID achievable rates in the downlink and uplink channels via bidirectional link power allocation as well as subcarriers and subsymbols scheduling. To solve this non-convex optimization problem, Lagrange duality method, sub-gradient-based method and greedy algorithm are adopted respectively. Simulation results show that the proposed strategy is superior to the fixed subcarrier scheme regardless of the weighting coefficients. It is superior to the heuristic algorithm in larger weighting coefficients scenario.

In a full-duplex (FD) wireless cellular network, uplink (UL) users induce the severe inter-user interference to downlink (DL) users. Therefore, a user scheduling that makes a pair of DL user and UL user to use the same radio resource simultaneously influences the system performances significantly. In this paper, we first formulate an optimization problem for user scheduling to minimize the occurrence of outage, aiming to guarantee the quality of service of users, and then we propose a suboptimal user scheduling algorithm with low complexity. The proposed scheduling algorithm is designed in a way where the DL user with a worse signal quality has a higher priority to choose its UL user that causes less interference. Simulation results show that the FD system using the proposed user scheduling algorithm achieves the optimal performance and significantly decreases the outage probability compared with the conventional half-duplex cellular system.
