SIZE OF DOT PRODUCT SETS DETERMINED BY PAIRS OF SUBSETS OF VECTOR SPACES OVER FINITE FIELDS

  • In this paper we study the cardinality of the dot product set generated by two subsets of vector spaces over finite fields. We notice that the results on the dot product problems for one set can be simply extended to two sets. Let E and F be subsets of the d-dimensional vector space $\mathbb{F}^d_q$ over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ with q elements. As a new result, we prove that if E and F are subsets of the paraboloid and ${\mid}E{\parallel}F{\mid}{\geq}Cq^d$ for some large C > 1, then ${\mid}{\Pi}(E,F){\mid}{\geq}cq$ for some 0 < c < 1. In particular, we find a connection between the size of the dot product set and the number of lines through both the origin and a nonzero point in the given set E. As an application of this observation, we obtain more sharpened results on the generalized dot product set problems. The discrete Fourier analysis and geometrical observation play a crucial role in proving our results.

Effects of barrier film on optical properties of quantum dot film (베리어 필름이 양자점 필름의 광특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Quantum dot efficiency was increased to evaluate reliability and optical characteristics using incidental materials. Quantum dot was manufactured by wrapping a sandwich type quantum layer using a product with a barrier property to prevent water and oxygen because it is vulnerable to oxygen and moisture. We used the three quantum dot films consisting of quantum dot only and quantum dot products consisting of film and barrier film combined with PET in the quantum dot product to evaluate the change over 650 hours under high temperature and high humidity conditions at 60℃ and 90 % humidity. As a result, the quantum dot product with Barrier Film has lowered luminance by 8 %, CIE x by 2 % and CIE y by 8 %. Quantum dot products exposed to moisture and oxygen were oxidized and measured low before measurement.

  • 현재 사용되는 디지털 신호처리 방식의 GPS(Global Positioning System) 수신기는 최소의 RF 블록만을 이용하여 모든 디지털 신호 처리를 소프트웨어로 수행하고 있다. 소프트웨어 GPS수신기의 장점으로는 디지털 신호처리 과정이 모두 소프트웨어로 구현되어 있기 때문에 새로운 구현 방식이나 알고리즘을 적용할 시, 하드웨어 변경은 필요가 없게 되고, 소프트웨어 재설계만으로 가능하다. GPS 수신기의 Tracking module 성능은 DLL discriminator function과 FLL discriminator function의 Algorithm에 의해서 영향을 받게 된다. DLL discriminator function algorithm에는 dot-product 와 normalized dot-product 방법 등이 있으며, FLL discriminator function algorithm에는 sign(dot)(cross)-product 와 cross-product 그리고 ATAN 방법이 있다. 이러한 discriminator function들은 algorithm에 따라 input error에 대한 discriminator의 출력 값을 일정한 범위에서의 차이를 나타내게 되면서 ranging accuracy에서 차이가 나타나게 된다. 본 논문에서는 Nordnav 소프트웨어 GPS 수신기를 이용하여 DLL discriminator algorithm과 FLL discriminator algorithm의 성능을 비교, 분석을 하고 Tracking accuracy, sensibility, 그리고 multipath rejection에 대해서 알아보고자 한다.

  • This paper defiens a perceptron-like self-organizing map(PSOM) and show that PSOM is equivalent to Kohonen's self-organizing map(SOM) if target values of output neurons of PSOM are selected properly. This fact imphes that PSOM is a generalized SOM algorithm. This paper also show that if clustering is restricted to vector sets distributed on hypersphere with unit radius, SOM and dot-product SOM(DOSM) are equivalent algorithms. Therefore we conclude that DSOM is a special case of SOM, which in turn a special, case of PSOM.

Measuring the Economic Impact of Quantum-Dot Nanotechnology on Display/TV Industries

  • Governments are asking policymakers to quantify the economic and social impact of those advanced technologies they support, including nanotechnology. National policymakers and researchers who participated in OECD activities cooperated to develop a model for the economic impact assessment of nanotechnology with a relevant case study. The present research contributing to some recommendations from the OECD WPN (Working Party on Nanotechnology) finds a successful example of market creation by nanotechnology, and assesses the resulting economic impact of the DEFRA (Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs of UK) model. This study investigates the economic impact of Quantum-dot (Qdot) nanotechnology on flat panel TV manufacturers, which is an ideal case to apply the DEFRA model for the analysis of product innovation based on nanotechnology. Findings show that Qdot nanotechnology is expected to create an economic value of $3.32 billion for Korean TV manufacturers over the next decade.

  • DNA sequence information on small-subunit rRNA gene (16S rDNA) obtained from food-poisoning bacterial culture was used to investigate the presence of bacterial pathogens in food. By reverse dot blot detection method, presence of food-poisoning bacteria could be confirmed on hybridization of digoxigenin-labeled 16S rDNA Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) primer product and biotin-labeled specific oligonucleotide probe. Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus. and Salmonella sp. were used as the representative food-poisoning bacterial microorganisms. An oligonucleotide probe, based on the variable region of 16S rRNA gene, was used as the specific probe. These tools may be more useful than classic biochemical method for rapid identification of contaminated food.

An integrated design approach for Light Guide Panel(LGP) of Back Light Unit(BLU) to improve the Optical Performance of Liquid Crystal Display(LCD) (LCD 제품의 광학 성능 향상을 위한 백라이트 유닛용 도광판의 최적설계)

  • Difficulties in developing process of Liquid Crystal Display(LCD) products such as frequent design modifications, various design requirements, and short-term development period bring on the need of integrated design approach that is efficient and easy to handle. Back Light Unit(BLU) of the LCD, which drastically affects the optical performance of LCD products, is divided into in-coupling part and out-coupling part. Serration of the in-coupling part flattens the light received from point light sources and dot pattern of the out-coupling part regularizes the light sent to screen. Therefore, the optical performance of a LCD product is largely influenced by the shape of serration and the arrangement of dot pattern. In this research, a new design approach which enables to improve the optical performance of LCD products and overcome the prementioned difficulties in developing process of LCD products is proposed. The shape of serration is parameterized to 3 parameters and out-coupling part is partitioned into 10 partitions to apply the optimization technique to this problem. 3 parameters for the shape of serration and densities of 10 partitions are used as design variables in the design optimization. Optical simulation tool named SPEOS is used to evaluate the optical performance of the LCD product. Since the optical simulation uses the random ray tracing technique, numerical noise may possibly be included in the simulation process. To solve the problem caused by numerical noise, the PQRSM which can stably find the solution of the noise problem is used in this research.

  • A 15.4" WXGA TFT-LCD, featuring integrated a-Si:H gate driver circuits and reduced data driver ICs, has been developed. To reduce number of data lines into 1/2 of conventional structure, the pixel array has been re-mapped with re-organized data signal. Unintended artificial effects such as flicker were removed by adopting the novel pixel array having a 'zigzag' map. To minimize the power consumption, a column inversion method was incorporated in the zigzag pixel array (Fig.1) without modifying the polarity map of conventional dot inversion method.

  • As the visual effect frequently used in movies or animations, special effects are well suited for the creation of buildings or materials' destruction and collapse scenes. With the relevant programs developing technologically, the adoption of a real-time physically based-system makes it possible to realistically express dynamic simulations. In the large scale, the visual expression of such effects of destroying is satisfying enough, but most common programs of those effects fail to maximize visual effect generated with the cutting of small materials. Besides, to perform a heavy simulation process needs high-performance hardware and programs, where high costs would become a serious issue. For this reason, this paper suggests a solution optimized for the effect of small materials-cutting. The progress of each step shows technologies which trace movement with the state of the completion of the character's motions and then cut the material in real-time, finally led to the very realistic visual effect. Besides, using vector inner calculation to follow the motions of object and to realize cutting effect, this study provides an experiment that constructs visual effect for visualization from the basis of mathematical algorithm and it would be certainly as an educational material used for further researches.

Expression of Human Stem Cell Factor with Recombinant Baculovirus in BmN Cell Line and Silkworm

  • A recombinant transfer vector pBacSCF was constructed by inserting huamn stem cell factor (hSCF) cDNA into plasmid pBacPAK8. BmN cells were co-transfected with modified Bombyx mori, nuclear polyhedrosis virus (BmBacPAK) DNA and the recmbinant transfer vector to construct a recombinant baculovirus containing hSCE gene. DNA dot blotting and RNA dot blotting demonstrated that the hSCE gene was contained in the recombinant virus and transcribed. The recombinant baculovirus was infectious to BmN cells and to silkworm. SDS-PAGE analysis showed a specific band of expressed product in the extract of infected cells and in the heamolymph of infected larvae. Bioactivity of the recombinant hSCE was determined with W-1 cell line and MTT colorimetric method in synergy with interlukin-3 (IL-3). These results revealed that the hSCF gene was over-expressed in cultured cells and lavae of silkworm.
