Recently, owing to increased interest in low-carbon energy supplies, renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics and wind turbines in distribution networks have received considerable attention for generating clean and unlimited energy. The presence of energy storage systems (ESSs) in the promising field of active distribution networks (ADNs) would have direct impact on power system problems such as encountered in probabilistic distributed generation (DG) model studies. Hence, the optimal procedure is offered herein, in which the simultaneous placement of an ESS, photovoltaic-based DG, and wind turbine-based DG in an ADN is taken into account. The main goal of this paper is to maximize the net present value of the loss reduction benefit by considering the price of electricity for each load state. The proposed framework consists of a scenario tree method for covering the existing uncertainties in the distribution network's load demand as well as DG. The collected results verify the considerable effect of concurrent installation of probabilistic DG models and an ESS in defining the optimum site of DG and the ESS and they demonstrate that the optimum operation of an ESS in the ADN is consequently related to the highest value of the loss reduction benefit in long-term planning as well. The results obtained are encouraging.
Many anti-islanding methods have been developed and tested in pratice. Generally, it seems to be possible to include effective and reliable anti-islanding methods in the PV inverter However, it is difficult to detect islanding phenomenon in the case of multiple systems in the same distribution line. In this paper, the islanding possibility of distributed PV generation system is analyzed and discussed to detect islanding phenomenon.

As the demand for electric power increases rapidly and the amount of fossil fuels decreases year by year, making use of renewable resources seem very necessary. However, due to the discontinuous nature of renewable resources and the hierarchical topology of existing grids, power quality and grid stability will deteriorate as more and more distributed generations (DGs) are connected to the grids. It is a good idea to combine local utilization, local consumption, energy storage and DGs to form a grid-friendly micro grid, these micro grids can then assembled into an intelligent power system - the smart Grid. It can optimize power flow and integrate power generation and consumption effectively. Most importantly, the power quality and grid stability can be improved greatly. This paper depicts how the smart grid addresses the current issues of a power system. It also figures out the key technologies and expectations of the smart grid.
Recent developments in power electronics technology have spurred interest in the use of renewable energy sources as distributed generation (DG) generators. The key component in DG generators is a grid-connected inverter that serves as an effective interface between the renewable energy source and the utility grid. The multifunctional inverter (MFI) is special type of grid-connected inverter that has elicited much attention in recent years. MFIs not only generate power for DGs but also provide increased functionality through improved power quality and voltage and reactive power support; thus, the capability of the auxiliary service for the utility grid is improved. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the various MFI system configurations for single-phase (two-wire) and three-phase (three- or four-wire) systems and control strategies for the compensation of different power quality problems. The advances in practical applications and recent research on MFIs are presented through a review of nearly 200 papers.
Recently There has been growing interest in new renewable energy systems with high-energy efficiency due to the increasing energy consumption and environmental pollution problems. But an insertion of new distributed generation to existng power distribution systems can cause several problems such as voltage variations, harmonics, protective coordination, increasing fault current etc, because of reverse power. This paper was applied to fault location defecting a method as each Relay sensing fault current value and carried out short-circuit analysis by MATLAB and PSCAD/EMTDC programs and identity the faulted section o f22.9[kV] distribution system interconnected a large number of distributed generation. The existing protection system of 22.9[kV] power distribution system analyzed and the study on protective coordination recloser and Sectionalzer accomplished

The microgrid concept is a promising approach for injecting clean, renewable, and reliable electricity into power systems. It can operate in both the grid-connected and the islanding mode. This paper addresses the two main challenges associated with the operation of a microgrid i.e. control and protection. A control strategy for inverter based distributed generation (DG) and an energy storage system (ESS) are proposed to control both the voltage and frequency during islanding operation. The protection scheme is proposed to protect the lines, DG and ESS. Further, the control scheme and the protection scheme are coordinated to avoid nuisance tripping of the DG, ESS and loads. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by simulation and experimental results.

A novel UPQC(Unified Power Quality Conditioner), which consists of series inverter, shunt inverter, distributed generation system, is proposed. The proposing system can compensate reactive power, harmonics, voltage sag and swell, voltage interruption etc. through the change of paralleling operation mode and islanding operation mode. The control strategy for the proposing system was derived using the instantaneous power method. The performance of proposing system was analyzed by means of the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation and the experimental work with the hardware prototype. The proposing system has the ultimate capability of improving power quality at the point of installation on power distribution systems or Industrial power systems and can be utilized for the custom power device in th future distribution system.
This paper develops an enhanced harmonic voltage compensator which is implemented with the aid of two repetitive controllers (RCs) in order to improve the output voltage performance of stand-alone distributed generation (DG) systems. The proposed harmonic voltage compensator is able to maintain the DG output voltage sinusoidal regardless of the use of nonlinear and/or unbalanced loads in the load side. In addition, it can offer good steady-state performance under various types of loads and a very fast dynamic response under load variations to overcome the slow dynamic response issue of the traditional RC. The feasibility of the proposed control strategy is verified through simulations and experiments.
The interest in renewable energy-based distributed power generation systems is increasing due to the recognitions of the breakthrough of existing centralized power generation, energy conversion, and environmental problems. In this study, the optimal capacity was selected by simulating a distributed power generation system based on PV and WT using lead acid batteries as the energy storage system. CHP was adopted as the existing power source, and the optimal capacity of the system was derived through MOGA according to the operating modes(full load/part load) of the existing power source. In addition, it was confirmed that the battery life differs when the battery charging method is changed at the same battery capacity. Therefore, for economical and stable power supply and demand, the capacity selection of the distributed generation system considering the battery charging method should be performed.
The existing distribution networks are growing with an increase of power demand more and more. Therefore, for efficient operation of distribution networks, operators are much in need of distributed generation. This paper describes a development of the digital protection relay(HIMAP) for protecting distributed generation which is expected to play an increasing role in electric power systems in the near future. This paper particularly introduces frequency protective algorithm and reverse power protective algorithm among the relaying algorithms for protecting distributed generation in distribution networks and resents capability of a developed digital protection relay including these algorithms.
