  • Spatially distributed on-site devices such as bioretentions and bioboxfilters are becoming more common as a means of controlling urban stormwater quality. One approach to modeling the cumulative catchment-scale effects of such devices is to resolve the catchment down to the scale of a land parcel or finer, and then to model each device separately. The focus of this study is to propose a semi-distributed model for simulating urban stormwater quantity and identifying best sites for spatially distributed on-site stormwater control devices in an urban drainage system. A detailed model for urban stormwater improvement conceptualization simulation is set up for a $0.9342km^2$.

  • Demand for distributed source by new and renewable energy has been gradually increasing recently. For the characteristics of distributed generation, distributed source is located near the distribution system and customers' buildings and can be operated in standalone mode or in interface mode with distribution system. When the distributed sources are interfaced with distribution system, the standard for interfacing distributed source with existing distribution system and operation manual should be updated with revisions in order to manage the distributed source effectively and operate the distribution system stably because how to operate the interfaced system is different from that of existing distribution system. In this paper, the FEP(Front End Processor) using the international standard protocol IEC-60870 for interfacing with distributed resources was designed. The designed system was verified via the test result using main control system for distributed generation and RTU(Remote Terminal Unit) for interface with distributed power generating.

  • The anisotropy and shape of distributed piezopolymer actuator have advantages over isotropic piezo ceramic materials, since these features of PVDF can be utilized as another design variable in control application. This study is interested in the reduction of sound transmission through elastic plate into interior space by using the PVDF actuator. The plate-cavity system is adopted as a test problem. The vibration of composite plate and the sound fields through plate are analyzed by using the coupled finite element and boundary element method. Some numerical simulations are performed on sound transmission through elastic plates. To investigate the effects of anisotropy and shape of distributed piezopolymer actuator, various kinds of distributed PVDF actuators are applied in sound control simulation for isotropic and anisotropic plates. The PVDF actuators applied are different from each other in their shapes and laminate angles. The results of control simulation show that the control effectiveness of distributed PYDF actuator can be enhanced by using the coupling between shape of actuator and vibration modes of structure and the anisotropy of piezoelectric properties of PVDF.

  • Autoreclosing techniques have been used in power systems to maintain system stability and continuity of supply. Environmental and economical issues have driven significant increases in the development of distributed generation (DG). DG connected to distribution systems, however, may impose negative influences with respect to power quality, protection, and stability, because DG can cause some challenges to protection, especially to reclosing. For this reason, in order to improve the reliability and safety of the distribution system, the rules and guidelines suggest that the DG system needs to be rapidly disconnected from the system before reclosing. We present, in this paper, an adaptive reclosing algorithm considering the DG. The algorithm consists of an angle oscillation's judgment, the emergency extended equal-area criterion (EEEAC), the calculation of an optimal reclosing time, and a reconnection algorithm. Our simulation results for three different DG technologies with Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) indicate that we can maintain transient stability while the DG is protected against disturbances.

  • Industrial control systems (ICSs) used to be operated in closed networks, that is, separated physically from the Internet and corporate networks, and independent protocols were used for each manufacturer. Thus, their operation was relatively safe from cyberattacks. However, with advances in recent technologies, such as big data and internet of things, companies have been trying to use data generated from the ICS environment to improve production yield and minimize process downtime. Thus, ICSs are being connected to the internet or corporate networks. These changes have increased the frequency of attacks on ICSs. Despite this increased cybersecurity risk, research on ICS security remains insufficient. In this paper, we analyze threats in detail using STRIDE threat analysis modeling and DREAD evaluation for distributed control systems, a type of ICSs, based on our work experience as cybersecurity specialists at a refinery. Furthermore, we verify the validity of threats identified using STRIDE through case studies of major ICS cybersecurity incidents: Stuxnet, BlackEnergy 3, and Triton. Finally, we present countermeasures and strategies to improve risk assessment of identified threats.

  • In this paper, we design and implement a DCS (Distributed Control System) based on dual field-bus for ship engine. For monitoring and controlling the condition of the ship engine, an implemented DCS is consisted of two-tier communication structure by using CAN (Controller Area Network) and MODBUS protocols. The first-tier is consisted of CAN protocol for sharing the condition of the ship engine by each implemented monitoring system. By using MODBUS protocol, the second-tier is used for communicating the monitoring data from an implemented DCS to AMS(Alarm Monitoring System). We verified and tested our scheme and implemented DCS by KR (Korea Register) technical rules through experimental tests.

  • This paper presents the parallel distributed control scheme for shaping of the bent glass. The designed system consists of a PC, a main controller and 11 servo-controllers, the precision motion controllers. Each elements are connected by using RS-232C and 8-bit data bus. In order to guarantee the stability and the control performance, we use a precision PID motion controller and a H-bridge on the servo-drivers. PC calculates position values of 11 DC motors by using the pre-determined curvature value and offers the user interface environment operator. The main controller provides the control instructions and parameter values to 11 servo-controllers by chip enable signal, simultaneously. Using the received commands and parameter values, the servo-controllers control the positions of the DC motors based on PID control scheme.

  • This paper presents the novel voltage control method in power distribution system with distributed generators. The voltage in distribution systems is regulated by Under Load Tap Changer(ULTC) of substation and pole transformer of primary feeders. Recently, Step Voltage Regulator(SVR) is getting located at distribution feeders to regulate effectively voltage of primary feeders. But the effectiveness of SVR decreases due to independent operation between SVR and ULTC, and also the existing Line Drop Compensator(LDC) method considering the distributed generators may be not able to regulate the proper voltage in a permissible range. Thus, this paper presents a optimal voltage control algorithm of SVR by using the secondary voltage data of main transformer in substation.
