  • Cold cathode fluorescent lamp(CCFL) are widely used to illuminate the liquid crystal display(LCD). Usually, CCFL dimming methods are used to lamp current regulation or average current adjust feeding the CCFL inverter. Switching frequency of inverter is higher than resonant frequency at stabile states. In this study, design of CCFL driving circuit by half-bridge type series and parallel resonant inverter that variable frequency modulation method to control the output power. This method has advantages such as low EMI and reduced harmonics. And it is easy to dimming control use microprocessor. The validity of this study is confirmed from the simulation and experimental results.

  • The Human Sensory Feedback Laboratory, park of the Armstrong Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is involved in the development and evaluation of systems that provide sensory feedback to the human operator in telerobotic and virtual environment applications. Specific projects underway in the laboratory are primarily concerned with the information provided by force and vibrotactile feedback to the operator in dextrous manipulation tasks. Four specific research projects are described in the present report. These include : 1) experiments evaluating a 30-element fingertip display, which employs a titanium-nickel shape memory alloy actuator design to provide vibrotactile feedback about object shape and surface texture ; 2) of a fingertip force-feedback display for 3-dimensional information about object shape and suface texture ; 3) use of a force- feedback joystic to provide "force tunnel" information in pilot pursuit tracking tasks ; and 4) evaluations of a 7 degree-of-freedom exoskeleton used to control a robotic arm. Both basic and applied research questions are discussed.

  • Productivity is one of the performance indices of the semiconductor equipment in manufacturing viewpoint. Among many ways tried and adopted for improvement of the productivity of the FAB equipment, variation of equipment configuration was considered and its effect on the throughput was analyzed. Parallel machine cycle charts that were generated based on the equipment log were used in the analysis. Efficiency of the equipment due to change of the structure and the probability of the usage in the manufacturing process were examined. The results showed that the modification of the control algorithm in the equipment and the redistribution of the process time for each process and transfer module along to the change in the structure enhance the throughput of the equipment.

  • To achieve adequate brake performance in high-speed trains the brake system should : ${\bullet}$ offer high reliability and high availability, ${\bullet}$ permit deceleration of the train with as little wear as possible, and ${\bullet}$ display good control characteristics with, if possible, infinitely variable control of the braking effort. For these reasons, high-speed train is to be equipped with three different and largely independent brake system : ${\bullet}$ a regenerative brake with regenerative feedback in the driven cars, ${\bullet}$ a linear eddy-current brake in the nondriven cars and ${\bullet}$ a pneumatic disc brake in all cars.   • Spacecraft mission planning functions including event prediction, mission scheduling, command planning, and ground track display have been developed for the KOMPSAT-2 mission operations. Integrated event prediction functions including satellite orbital events, user requested imaging events, and satellite operational events have been implemented. Mission scheduling functions have been realized to detect the mission conflicts considering the user specified constraints and resources, A conflict free mission scheduling result is mapped into the spacecraft command sequences in the command planning functions. The command sequences are directly linked to the spacecraft operations using eXtensible Markup Language(XML) for command transmission. Ground track display shows the satellite ground trace and mission activities on a digitized world map with zoom capability.

  • On this study, an E.E(End-Effector) for the 300 mm wafer transfer robot system is newly suggested. It is a mechanical type with $180^{\circ}$ rotating ranges and is composed of 3-point arms, two plate springs and single-axis DC motor controlled by microchip. To design, relationship between the gripping force and the wafer deformation is analyzed by FEM. By analytic results, the gripping force for 300 mm wafer is confirmed as 255~274 gf. From experimental results on gripping force, repeatable position accuracy and gripping cycle times in a wafer cleaning system, we confirmed that the suggested E.E was well designed to satisfiy on the required performance for 300 mm wafer transfer robot system.

  • In this paper, inspection system based on optical scanning mechanism is designed and developed for solar cell wafer. It consists of optical scanning mechanism, NIR camera optics, machinery and control system, algorithm of defect detection and software. Optical scanning mechanism is composed of geometrical camera optics and structured hybrid illumination system. It is used to inspection of surface defects. NIR camera optics is used for inspection of defects inside solar cell wafer. It is shown that surface and internal micro defects can be detected in developed inspection system for solar cell wafer.

  • Electrostatic forces have an advantage of directly levitating not only non-ferromagnetic metals but also semiconductors, such as silicon wafers, and dielectric materials like glass. This paper describes the characteristics of electrostatic forces and electrostatic suspension system, followed by the basic principle of 1-DOF(degree of freedom) electrostatic suspension system, and the structures of electrodes-for-suspension and voltage supplying methods to the electrodes in 1-DOF model. This paper also discuss about the minimum number of electrodes needed to control n-DOF motion of the suspended object and represents some desirable electrode patterns to stabilize the 6-DOF motion of the object. In the near future, electrostatic suspension system is expected to be applied to industrial manufacturing processes, for example, to the manufacture of semiconductor devices and/or flat panel display devices.

Optimization of Process Parameters for AISI 4340 Steel in Electrical Discharge Machining (AISI 4340강의 방전가공에서 공정변수의 최적화)

  • The method of electrical discharge machining (EDM), one of the processing methods based on non-traditional manufacturing procedures, is gaining increased popularity, since it does not require cutting tools and allows machining involving hard, brittle, thin and complex geometry. This present investigation details the determination of optimum process parameter to attain the better machining performance in EDM of AISI 4340 steel with graphite as a tool electrode. The experimental combinations are planned and analyzed by Taguchi's design of experiments approach. To predict the optimal condition, the experiments are conducted by using Taguchi's L27 orthogonal array. The influence of process variables such as discharge current, pulse on and pulse off time, voltage and spark speed were investigated to control the various desired performance measures such as surface roughness. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) has to be performed to know the magnitude of each factor. Investigations indicate that the surface roughness is strongly depend on pulsed current.
