The purpose of this study is to evaluate force per unit displacements according to the shape of a clasp arm and flexibility of the material. Effect of four shape parameters of a clasp, base width and thickness and tip width and thickness, on tip displacement and force per unit displacement was investigated to get the fact that displacement and force per unit displacement at the tip increase as thickness and width of clasp arm increase just as expected. But force per unit displacement is much more affected by the change in thickness than by change in width. So it is effective to increase the thickness rather than width in order to increase the force at the tip using the same amount of the material.
The purpose of this study was to determine how to use soft relining material by observing an amount of denture displacement according to the different base area of residual ridge and thickness of soft relining material under masticatory force. Stone models that simulated residual ridge were made with different amount of denture base area and denture was fabricated by conventional heat curing resin with usual manner on the model and relined by silicone type soft relining material with different thickness. Specimen was examined the amount of denture displacement by Instron within range of normal occlusal force. The results were as following : 1. The increasing rate of denture displacement was higher than that of soft relining material thickness. 2. The amount of denture displacement decreased 1.7 times when base area became double at same thickness of soft relining material 3. The increasing rate of denture displacement was higher than that of occlusal force
In this study, thickness vibration mode piezoelectric devices for AE sensor application were simulated using ATILA FEM program, and then fabricated. Trajectory resonant displacement and electro mechanical coupling factors of the piezoelectric devices were investigated. The simulation results showed that excellent displacement and electro mechanical coupling factor was obtained when the ratio of diameter/thickness($\Phi/T$) was 0.75. The piezoelectric device of $\Phi/T$=0.75 exhibited the optimum values of fr= 183 kHz, displacement= $4.44{\times}10^{-7}[m]$, $k_{33}$= 0.69, which were suitable for the application of AE sensor piezoelectric device.
This study investigates structural and vibration analyses according to the thickness of bicycle frame tube. The model of bicycle frame has the dimension as length of 862mm, width of 100mm and hight of 402.5mm. There are 3 kinds of models with tubes of top, down and seat at bicycle frame as thicknesses of 10, 15 and 20mm. The maximum displacement and stress occur at the center part of seat stay and at the installation part of rear wheel respectively. Maximum displacements become 0.031936, 0.029159 and 0.027984mm in cases of thicknesses of 10, 15 and 20mm respectively. In case of thickness of 20mm among 3 cases, maximum displacement becomes lowest. But maximum stresses become 10.019, 8.5492 and 9.2511MPa in cases of thicknesses of 10, 15 and 20mm respectively. In case of thickness of 15mm among 3 cases, maximum stress becomes lowest. There is no resonance at practical driving conditions and natural frequency remains almost unchanged along the change of thickness. In case of the displacement due to vibration mode, the displacement difference at thickness between 15mm and 20mm becomes 1/2 times than that between 10mm and 15mm. Design at bicycle frame tube becomes most economical and durable effectively in case of thickness of 15mm among 3 cases.
Electro-Active Paper (EAPap) is attractive as an EAP actuator material due to its merits in terms of lightweight, dry condition, large displacement output, low actuation voltage and low power consumption. This paper presents the performance of EAPap actuators with thickness variation. The EAPap is made with cellulose paper, and is shown to bend in response to an external electric field. Up to the present, we have tested displacement, current and force of EAPap with 20 $\mu$m thickness. The thickness of EAPap is important factor that affects the performance of the actuator. Therefere, three different thickness of EAPap, 20, 30, and 40 $\mu$m are investigated that inference the tip displacement, blocked force, the resonance and the actuator efficiency. There is an optimum thickness of EAPap, which is resulted from the stiffness and the mass. The performance of EAPap with thickness is discussed.
In this study, thickness shear mode piezoelectric devices for AE sensor with excellent displacement and sensitivity characteristics were simulated using ATILA FEM program, and then fabricated. Displacement and electro mechanical coupling factors of the piezoelectric devices were investigated. The simulation results showed that excellent displacement and electromechanical coupling factor was obtained when the ratio of Length/Thickness was 1. The piezoelectric device of L/T= 1 exhibited the optimum values of fr= 150 kHz, displacement= $6.23{\times}10^{-8}$[m], $k_{15}$= 0.598. The results show that the thickness shear mode piezoelectric device is a promising candidate for the application of AE sensor piezoelectric device.
By the reason of increased demand of high productivity, the researches on manufacturing process and equipments for reducing cycle time have been made in many directions of a machine tool industries. Among these, this paper proposed method of decreasing displacement in MC(machining center). Factors affecting displacement are a motor mass, head thickness, column thickness and base thickness. In this paper We could find design factors has much influence on decreasing the unclamping time using the Taguchi method and optimized the level of the factors using $ADAMS^{(R)}$.
Variable thickness plates are commonly used as structural members in the majority of industrial sectors. Previous fracture mechanics researches on variable thickness plates were limited to mode I loading cases. In practice, however, cracks are usually located inclined to the loading direction. In this respect, combined mode(mode I/II) stress intensity factors $K_{I}$ and $K_{II}$ at the crack tip for a variable thickness plate were obtained by 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Variable thickness plates containing a slant edge crack were chosen. The parameters used in this study were dimensionless crack $length{\lambda}$, slant $angle{\alpha}$, thickness $ratio{\beta}$ and width ratio{\omega}$. Stress intensity factors were calculated by crack opening displacement(COD) and crack sliding displacement(CSD)method proposed by Ingraffea and Manu.

Free vibration of layered conical shell frusta of thickness filled with fluid is investigated. The shell is made up of isotropic or specially orthotropic materials. Three types of thickness variations are considered, namely linear, exponential and sinusoidal along the radial direction of the conical shell structure. The equations of motion of the conical shell frusta are formulated using Love's first approximation theory along with the fluid interaction. Velocity potential and Bernoulli's equations have been applied for the expression of the pressure of the fluid. The fluid is assumed to be incompressible, inviscid and quiescent. The governing equations are modified by applying the separable form to the displacement functions and then it is obtained a system of coupled differential equations in terms of displacement functions. The displacement functions are approximated by cubic and quintics splines along with the boundary conditions to get generalized eigenvalue problem. The generalized eigenvalue problem is solved numerically for frequency parameters and then associated eigenvectors are calculated which are spline coefficients. The vibration of the shells with the effect of fluid is analyzed for finding the frequency parameters against the cone angle, length ratio, relative layer thickness, number of layers, stacking sequence, boundary conditions, linear, exponential and sinusoidal thickness variations and then results are presented in terms of tables and graphs.
