This study analyzes stress intensity factors for a number of periodic edge cracks in a semiinfinite medium subjected to a far field uniform applied load along with a distribution of eigenstrain. The eigenstrain is considered to be distributed arbitrarily over a region of finite depth extending from the free surface. The cracks are represented by a continuous distribution of edge dislocations. Using the complex potential functions of the edge dislocations, a simple as well as effective method is developed to calculate the stress intensity factor for the edge cracks. The method is employed to obtain the numerical results of the stress intensity factor for different distributions of eigenstrain. Moreover, the effect of crack spacing and the intensity of the normalized eigenstress on the stress intensity factor are investigated in details. The results of the present study reveal that the stress intensity factor of the periodic edge cracks is significantly influenced by the magnitude as well as distribution of the eigenstrain within the finite depth. The eigenstrains that induce compressive stresses at and near the free surface of the semi-infinite medium reduce the stress intensity factor that, in turn, contributes to the toughening of the material.

As scaling down the cell channel length, the increment of B concentration in channel region is inevitable to overcome the punch-through, especially in flash memory cell with 90nm technology. This paper shows that the high dose ion implantation in channel cause the Si defect. which has been proved to be the major cause of the tailed Vth in distribution. And also mechanical stress due to SiN-anneal process can induce the Si dislocation. and get worse it. With decreasing the channel implantation dose, skipping the anneal and reducing the mechanical stress, Si defect problem is solved completely. We are verify first that the optimization of B concentration in channel must be certainly considered in order to improve Si defect. It is also certainly necessary to stabilize the distribution of cell Vth in the next generation of flash memory.

Lanthanum oxide was introduced to molybdenum powder by liquid-liquid doping and liquid-solid doping respectively. Mo alloys were prepared by powder metallurgy technology. The size distribution and feature of dopant particles and the fractographs of Mo alloys were investigated by TEM and SEM respectively. The results indicated that liquid-liquid doping method is favorable for refining and dispersing $La_2O_3$ particles uniformly in matrix. Fracture toughness of Mo alloys prepared by liquid-liquid doping showed better results than that of liquid-solid doping. Furthermore, the influences of the size distribution of $La_2O_3$ on properties of Mo alloys was discussed by dislocation pile-up theory.
The size of hydrogen molecule is not so small as to invade into the lattice of material, and therefore, hydrogen invades into the material as atom. Hydrogen movement is done by diffusion or dislocation movement in the near crack tip or plastic deformation. Hydrogen appeared to have many effects on the mechanical properties of the Cr-Mo steel alloys. The materials for this study are 1.25Cr-0.5Mo and 2.25Cr-1Mo steels used at high temperature and pressure. The hydrogen amount obtained by theoretical calculation was almost same with the result solved by finite element analysis. The distribution of hydrogen concentration and average concentration was calculated for a flat specimen. Also, finite element analysis was employed to simulate the redistribution of hydrogen due to stress gradient. The calculation of hydrogen concentration diffused into the material by finite element method will provide the basis for the prediction of delayed fracture of notched specimen. The distribution of hydrogen concentration invaded into the smooth and notched specimen was obtained by finite element analysis. The hydrogen amount is much in smooth specimen and tends to concentrate in the vicinity of surface. Hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of notched specimen after hydrogen charging is more remarkable than that of smooth specimen.
Structural and mechanical effects of the dynamical precipitation in two copper-base alloys have been investigated over a wide range of deformation temperatures. Basing upon the information gained during the experiment, also some general conclusion may be formulated. A one concerns the nature of dynamic precipitation(DP). Under this term it is commonly understood decomposition of a supersaturated solid solution during plastic straining. The process may, however, proceed in two different ways. It may be a homogeneous one from the point of view of distribution and morphological aspect of particles or it may lead to substantial difference in shape, size and particles distribution. The effect is controlled by the mode of deformation. Hence it seems to be reasonable to distinguish DP during homogeneous deformation from that which takes place in heterogeneously deformed alloy. In the first case the process can be analyzed solely in terms of particle-dislocation-particle interrelation. Much more complex problem we are facing in heterogeneously deforming alloy. Deformation bands and specific arrangement of dislocations in form of pile-ups at grain boundaries generate additional driving force and additional nucleation sites for precipitation. Along with heterogeneous precipitation, there is a homogeneous precipitation in areas between bands of coarse slip which also deform but at much smaller rate. This form of decomposition is responsible for a specially high hardening rate during high temperature straining and for thermally stable product of the decomposition of alloy.
In the periodic surveillance material test for the spacer component of fuel channel assembly in CANDU, a microstructural characterization analysis is required in addition to the mechanical property evaluation test. In this study, detailed microstructure analysis and simple mechanical property evaluation of archive spacer parts were conducted to indirectly support the surveillance test and assist in the study of spacer material degradation. We investigated the microstructural characteristics of the spacer garter spring coil through comparative analysis with the plate material. The main microstructure characteristics of the garter spring coil X-750 are represented by the fine grain size distribution, the ordering phase distribution developed inside the matrix, the high dislocation density inside the grains, and the arrangement of coarse carbides. In addition, the yield strength of the garter spring coil X-750 was indirectly evaluated to be approximately 1 GPa. We also established an analytical method to elucidate the microstructural evolution of the radioactive spacer garter spring coil X-750 based on Canadian research experiences. Finally, we confirmed the measurement technique for helium bubble formation through TEM examination on the helium implanted X-750 material.
A study was made to investigate microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of ultra-fine grained (UFG) pure-Ti produced by equal channel angular (ECA) pressings. The deformed structures were analyzed by finite element method and transmission electron microscopy with the increment of straining. After 4 isothermal ECA pressings, initial coarse grains ($30{\mu}m$) were significantly refined to ${\sim}0.3{\mu}m$ with homogeneous distribution of microstructure which was resulted from $180^{\circ}$ rotation of the sample between pressings. UFG pure-Ti exhibited the considerable improvement in yield strength while losing strain hardening capacity as compared to coarse grained microstructure at ambient temperature, which was mainly attributed to ultra-fine grain microstructure with non-equilibrium grain boundaries.
Sapphire substrate was patterned by a selective chemical wet etching technique, and GaN/InGaN structures were grown on this substrate by MOVPE (Metal Organic Vapor Phase Epitaxy). The surface of grown GaN on patterned sapphire substrate (PSS) has good morphology and uniformity. The patterned sapphire substrate LED showed better light output than conventional LED that improvement 50%. We think these results come from enhancement of internal quantum efficiency by decrease of threading dislocation and increase of light extraction efficiency. Also these LED showed more uniform emission distribution in angle than conventional LED.
ZnTe films have been grown on (100) GaAs substrate with two representative problems. The one is lattice mismatch, the other is thermal expansion coefficients mismatch of ZnTe /GaAs. It claims here, the relationship of film thickness and defects distribution with (100) ZnTe/GaAs using hot wall epitaxy (HWE) growth was investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It analyzed on the two-sort side using TEM with cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM) and high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM). Investigation into the nature and behavior of dislocations with dependence-thickness in (100) ZnTe/ (100) GaAs hetero-structures grown by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). This defects range from interface to 0.7 $\mu\textrm{m}$ was high density, due to the large lattice mismatch and thermal expansion coefficients. The defects of low density was range 0.7$\mu\textrm{m}$~1.8$\mu\textrm{m}$. In the thicker range than 1.8$\mu\textrm{m}$ was measured hardly defects.
