Fabrication of Graphene Supercapacitors for Flexible Energy Storage

  • In the present work, graphene powder was synthesized by laser scribing method. The resultant flexible light-scribed graphene is very appropriate for use in micro-supercapacitors. The effect of the laser scribing process in reducing graphene oxide (GO) was investigated. GO was synthesized using a chemical mixture of GO solution; then, it was coated onto a LightScribe DVD disk and laser scribed to reduce GO and create laser-scribed graphene (LSG). The CV curves of pristine rGO at various scan rates showed that the ultimate product possesses the ability to store energy at the supercapacitor level. Charge-discharge curves of pristine rGO at two different current densities indicated that the specific capacitance ($C_m$) increases due to the reduction of the discharge current density. Finally, the long-term charge-discharge stability of the LSG was plotted and indicates that the specific capacitance decreases very slightly from its primary capacitance of ${\sim}10F\;cm^{-3}$ and that the cyclic stability is favorable over 1000 cycles.

  • Dry sliding wear behavior of electro-pressure sintered Co, $Co-20\;wt.\%$ CuSn and $Co-20\;wt.\%$ WC composites were investigated. Wear tests of the materials were carried out using a pin-on-disk wear tester at various loads of 10N-100N under a constant sliding speed condition of 0.38m/s against glass ($83\%\;SiO_2$) beads. Sliding distances were varied with a range of $100m{\sim}600m$. A scanning electron microscopy was used to examine morphologies of worn surfaces, cross-sections, and wear debris. The $Co-20\;wt.\%$ WC composite had the highest and the $Co-20\;wt.\%$ CuSn composite showed the lowest wear resistance among the tested materials. All specimens exhibited low friction coefficients ranging from 0.12 to 0.4 at the applied load of 100N.

  • The 120t/d pyrolysis commercial plant for waste tire recycling have been constructed in Malaysia and is going to be operated. The plant have the tube reactor with chain conveyer attached disk developed in demonstration research stage. The reactor temperature for commercial plant is about 500deg.C and reactor inside pressure is -100$\sim$-120mmHg. Non-condensable gas is used as fuel for pyrolysis heat source, and the exhausted heat is recovered for cogeneration to produce steam and electric power of 600kw.

  • Recently, high vacuum pumps are widely used in the semi-conduction and liquid-crystal display ( LCD ) process. The composite-type high vacuum pumps are widely used in the various processes. In this study, the pumping performance of composite-type molecular pumps has been investigated experimentally. The experimented pumps are a compound molecular pump ( CMP ) and hybrid molecular pump ( HMP ). The CMP consists with helical-type drag pump, at lower part, and with turbomolecular pump ( TMP ), at upper part. The HMP consists with disk-type drag pump, at lower part, and with TMP, at upper part. The experiments are performed in the outlet pressure of $0.2\;{\sim}\;533\;Pa$.   • Austenitic stainless steel is used as high temperature components such as gas turbine blade and disk because of its good thermal resistance. In the present investigation, tensile and low cycle fatigue(LCF) behavior of stainless steel for turbine disks was studied at wide temperature range $20^{\circ}C\;{\sim}\;750^{\circ}C$. In the tensile tests, it was shown that elastic modulus, yield strength, ultimate tensile strength decreased when temperature increased. The effect on fatigue failure of the parameters such as plastic strain amplitude, stress amplitude and plastic strain energy density was also investigated. Coffin-Manson and Morrow models were used to adjust experimental data and predict the fatigue life behavior at different mean strain values during cyclic loading of high temperature components.

Pixel Intensity Histogram Method for Unresolved Stars: Case of the Arches Cluster

  • The Arches cluster is a young (2-4 Myr), compact (~1 pc), and massive (${\sim}2{\times}10^4M_{\odot}$) star cluster located ~30 pc away from the Galactic center (GC) in projection. Being exposed to the extreme environment of the GC such as elevated temperature and turbulent velocities in the molecular clouds, strong magnetic fields, and larger tidal forces, the Arches cluster is an excellent target for understanding the effects of star-forming environment on the initial mass function (IMF) of the star cluster. However, resolving stars fainter than ~1 $M_{\odot}$ in the Arches cluster partially will have to wait until an extremely large telescope with adaptive optics in the infrared is available. Here we devise a new method to estimate the shape of the low-end mass function where the individual stars are not resolved, and apply it to the Arches cluster. This method involves histograms of pixel intensities in the observed images. We find that the initial mass function of the Arches cluster should not be too different from that for the Galactic disk such as the Kroupa IMF.

  • Recently, network forensic research which analyzes intrusion-related information for tracing of attackers, has been becoming more popular than disk forensic which analyzes remaining evidences in a system. Analysis and correlation of logs from firewall, IDS(Intrusion Detect System) and web server are important part in network forensic procedures. This work suggests integrated graphical user interface of network forensic for private information leakage detection. This paper shows the necessity of various log information for network forensic and a design of graphical user interface for security managers who need to monitor the leakage of private information.

  • This paper present a new disk-type piezoelectric transformer. The input side of the transformer has a crescent-shaped electrode and the output side has a focused poling direction. The piezoelectric transformers operated in each transformer's resonance vibration mode. The electrodes and poling directions on commercially available piezoelectric ceramic disks were designed so that the planar or shear mode coupling factor $(k_p,\;k_{15})$ becomes effective rather than the transverse mode coupling factor ($k_{31}$). A single layer prototype transformer, 26[mm] in diameter and $1.5{\sim}4.0[mm]$ thick, was fabricated, such as step-up ratio, power transformation efficiency and temperature were measured.

Plasma Surface Treatment of Aluminum Extrusion Die (알루미늄 압출용 금형의 플라즈마 표면처리)

  • Wear characteristic of the nitrided SKD61 which is a typical mold material using for the extrusion of Al6061 alloy was investigated. The surface of SKD61 was nitrided by salt bath and plasma processes. The thickness of surface nitride layer was about $8.9{\mu}m{\sim}21.3{\mu}m$. Reciprocating friction wear test conducted using pin on disk type indicated the plasma treatment followed salt bath has a lower friction coefficient and a smaller adhesive wear with Al6061 alloy. That was identified by the $Fe_4N$ which has a better wear resistance than FeN mainly formed by plasma nitriding.

  • Unipoled piezoelectric transformers were designed with different input and output area ratios. The voltage step-up ratio increased proportionally with increasing the input area. The piezoelectric transformers operated in each transformer's resonance vibration mode. In this paper, ANSYS(FEM program) was used for analysing piezoelectric transformers. We compared with analysis and experimental results. The voltage step-up ratio showed maximum value in output area of small size. Output characteristics of piezoelectric transformers with various size were simulated. The result of analysis showed $2\sim7$ times higher voltage step-up ratio than a experiment result.
