  • The present experimental study deals with noise reduction and improvements in cooling performance in a plasma display panel (PDP) television (TV). The main ideas of the fan system noise reduction are maintenance of uniform inflow condition and reduction of the system loss, ${\Delta}P.$ The discrete noise is mainly related with the inflow condition therefore removing the structure which distorts inflow makes the discrete noise reduction. The broadband noise in PDP TV is related with the system losses which result from the presence of the fan downstream obstacle, PDP rear case. Through the modification of the distance and preventing the leakage flow between the fan and rear case, we can obtain the system loss and broadband noise reduction. Additionally we can reduce fan rotating speed because of increased flow rate which obtains from the reduction of system loss (resistance). Finally, 4.2 dB(A) noise reduction and $10\%$ increase in flow rate are achieved. From these results, we show that the reduction of system loss is the most effective way of the fan system noise reduction.

  • Naval ships are assigned many and varied missions. Their performance is critical for mission success, and depends on the specifications of the components. This is why performance analyses of naval ships are required at the initial design stage. Since the design and construction of naval ships take a very long time and incurs a huge cost, Modeling and Simulation (M & S) is an effective method for performance analyses. Thus in this study, a simulation core is proposed to analyze the performance of naval ships considering their specifications. This simulation core can perform the engineering level of simulations, considering the mathematical models for naval ships, such as maneuvering equations and passive sonar equations. Also, the simulation models of the simulation core follow Discrete EVent system Specification (DEVS) and Discrete Time System Specification (DTSS) formalisms, so that simulations can progress over discrete events and discrete times. In addition, applying DEVS and DTSS formalisms makes the structure of simulation models flexible and reusable. To verify the applicability of this simulation core, such a simulation core was applied to simulations for the performance analyses of a submarine in an Anti-SUrface Warfare (ASUW) mission. These simulations were composed of two scenarios. The first scenario of submarine diving carried out maneuvering performance analysis by analyzing the pitch angle variation and depth variation of the submarine over time. The second scenario of submarine detection carried out detection performance analysis by analyzing how well the sonar of the submarine resolves adjacent targets. The results of these simulations ensure that the simulation core of this study could be applied to the performance analyses of naval ships considering their specifications.

  • This paper describes system modeling and controller design method in the measured signal by discrete Fourier transform. Transfer function of the second order system is estimated by the dominant parameter which is computed in the magnitude and the phase of Fourier spectrum of the measured signal. In addition, the controller was designed by the estimated transfer function, and the results were compared. The proposed estimation method of transfer function contains only a very simple mathematical process. Therefore, it is effective to design the controller in the measured signal when the output of the system contains the characteristics of complex exponential functions case. The proposed method was applied on Op-Amp system to verify the efficiency and the reliability. The results show that the proposed algorithms are highly applicable to the system modeling and controller design in the measured data.

  • This paper presents intelligent digital redesign method of global approach for hybrid state space fuzzy-model-based controllers. For effectiveness and stabilization of continuous-time uncertain nonlinear systems under discrete-time controller, Takagi-Sugeno(TS) fuzzy model is used to represent the complex system. And global approach design problems viewed as a convex optimization problem that we minimize the error of the norm bounds between nonlinearly interpolated linear operators to be matched. Also by using the power series, we analyzed nonlinear system's uncertain parts more precisely. When a sampling period is sufficiently small, the conversion of a continuous-time structured uncertain nonlinear system to an equivalent discrete -time system have proper reason. Sufficiently conditions for the global state -matching of the digitally controlled system are formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMls). Finally, we prove the effectiveness and stabilization of the proposed intelligent digital redesign method by applying the chaotic Lorentz system.

  • The active vibration control of composite shell structure has been performed with the optimized sensor/actuator system. For the design of sensor/actuator system, a method based on finite element technique is developed. The nine-node Mindlin shell element has been used for modeling the integrated system of laminated composite shell with PVDF sensor/actuator. The distributed selective modal sensor/actuator system is established to prevent the effect of spillover. Electrode patterns and lamination angles of sensor/actuator are optimized using genetic algorithm. Continuous electrode patterns are discretized according to finite element mesh, and orientation angle is encoded into discrete values using binary string. Sensor is designed to minimize the observation spillover, and actuator is designed to minimize the system energy of the control modes under a given initial condition. Modal sensor/actuator for the first and the second mode vibration control of singly curved cantilevered composite shell structure are designed with the method developed on the finite element method and optimization. For verification, the experimental test of the active vibration control is performed for the composite shell structure. Discrete LQG method is used as a control law.

  • Programmable Logic Controller(PLC) is the most widely utilized and plays an important role in industrial control system. Sequential Function Chart(SFC) is a graphic language which is suitable for describing a sequential control logic in discrete control system. We can design a distribute control construction and a hierarchical control construction in process control system described by SFC. In hierarchical control structure, we construct each subsystems to synchronize a synchronous signal between subsystems, and the command system gives and takes a synchronous signal with subsystems. Therefore, the system has a low memory efficiency and a low system performance. In this paper, we propose the method that improved the efficiency of memory in hierarchical control construction, and confirm its feasibility through an actual example.

  • A method for on-line tuning of the PID-controller parameters for a discrete-time multivariable process system is presented. And it is based on a step change in the controller set point. The system is presumed to be a linear, open loop stable and known one. The controller parameters are determined by the performance criterion and Fletcher-Powell methods.

  • As one of the methods to ameliorate the ray effects which are the nature of anomalous computational effects due to the discretization of the angular variable in discrete ordinates approximations, a computational program, named TWODET (TWO dimensional Discrete Element Transport), has developed in 2 dimensional cartesian coordinates system using the discrete elements method, in which the discrete angle quadratures are steered by the spatially dependent angular fluxes. The results of the TWODET calculation with K-2, L-3 discrete angular quadratures, in the problem of a centrally located, isotropically emitting flat source in an absorbing square, are shown to be more accurate than that of the DOT 4.3 calculation with S-10 full symmetry angular quadratures, in remedy of the ray effect at the edge flux distributions of the square. But the computing time of the TWODET is about 4 times more than that of the DOT 4.3. In the problem of vacuum boundaries just outside of the source region in an absorbing square, the results of the TWODET calculation are shown severely anomalous ray effects, due to the sudden discontinuity between the source and the vacuum, like as the results of the DOT 4.3 calculation. In the probelm of an external source in an absorbing square in which a highly absorbing medium is added, the results of the TWODET calculation with K-3, L-4 show a good ones like as, somewhat more than, that of the DOT 4.3 calculation with S-10.
