  • Polyetherimide (PEI) and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF) blend web was prepared by electrospinning technique. In order to improve low mechanical properties, post processes like hot-pressing and heat-stretching were employed, and a study on the effects of post processes on their mechanical properties was performed. To confirm the physical properties of the web, scanning electron microscopy and tensile measuring instrument were used. The mechanical strength of webs pressed in the ratios of 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 and 1/5 at $180^{\circ}C$ were improved four-to-five times compared to pristine webs. Also they showed an additional increase by 2~8MPa, by heat-stretching 30 to 40% at $220^{\circ}C$.

  • Recent statistics revealed that with the crisis of humanities, the unemployment rate of the students majoring in this field of study is very high. Considering the seriousness of current situations, the government announced 'Plan to Help Students Majoring in Humanities Find Job.' This study confirmed that the government's policy for those from the department of humanities is valid and reasonable. However, the convergence of humanistic imagination and engineering thoughts could generate some side effects. Therefore, this study suggested a direction for humanistic convergence education to help these students get the career they want. In this study was investigated methodology which can maximize the efficiency of digital storytelling through microscopic convergence instead of macroscopic convergence. In addition, this study proposed that an inter-disciplinary convergence system-based project would be the best solution to nurture convergence-oriented talents in humanities.

  • Ship design process requires lots of complicated analyses for determining a large number of design variables. Due to its complexity, the process is divided into several tractable designs or analysis problems. The interdependent relationship requires repetitive works. This paper employs collaborative optimization (CO), one of the multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) techniques, for treating such complex relationship. CO guarantees disciplinary autonomy while maintaining interdisciplinary compatibility due to its bi-level optimization structure. However, the considerably increased computational time and the slow convergence have been reported as its drawbacks. This paper proposes the use of an approximation model in place of the disciplinary optimization in the system-level optimization. Neural network classification is employed as a classifier to determine whether a design point is feasible or not. Kriging is also combined with the classification to make up for the weakness that the classification cannot estimate the degree of infeasibility. For the purpose of enhancing the accuracy of a predicted optimum and reducing the required number of disciplinary optimizations, an approximation management framework is also employed in the system-level optimization.

  • Recently, the R&D paradigm has become oriented toward convergence technology and interdisciplinary research. In this study, to elucidate the characteristics of research groups that promote the performance of convergence research, we take into account the input characteristics, disciplinary characteristics and collaborative characteristics of research groups. For this study purpose, 5,217 SCI papers published from 104 centers in Advanced Research Center Projects are analyzed as research outputs. The research findings are that the disciplinary balance in the interdisciplinary characteristics and the number of partners in the collaborative characteristics are positively related to the convergence of R&D outputs. The research field of a group introduced as a control variable exerts a significant effect on the convergent R&D outputs. In conclusion, it is necessary to organize internally with the same number of each disciplinary researcher in a research group and to activate external collaboration with partners in order to produce more outputs of convergent research.

  • This paper is researched the methods of design instruction which can improve students' creativeness through the subject of creative engineering design as a required subject for the accredited engineering program. After studying the preference and problems of design tasks for the students of engineering college, a new education development plan for design process was suggested, which uses the existing design tasks in which creativeness improvement class was focused through the completion of structures. This was through the completion of structures that 'operating the most simple operation with the most complex mechanical mechanism', which uses Rube-Goldberg, the crystal of mechanical mechanism in the union of multi-disciplinary convergence curriculum.

  • Practical methodology for categorizing collaborative disciplines or research in a quantitative manner is presented by developing a Correlation Matrix of Major Disciplines (CMMD) using bibliometric data collected between 2009 and 2014. First, 21 major disciplines in science and engineering are defined based on journal publication frequency. Second, major disciplines using a comparing discipline correlation matrix is created and correlation score using CMMD is calculated based on an analyzer function that is given to the matrix elements. Third, a correlation between the major disciplines and 14 research fields using CMMD is calculated for validation. Collaborative researches are classified into three groups by partially accepting the definition of pluri-discipline from peer review manual, European Science Foundation, inner-discipline, inter-discipline and cross-discipline. Applying simple categorization criteria identifies three groups of collaborative research and also those results can be visualized. Overall, the proposed methodology supports the categorization for each research field.

  • This research aims to discover various aspects of the user studies and the research in practice and also to propose collaboration methods by empirical analysis of the data. To determine the application applicability of the user studies in other subject areas, the degree of keyword overlap between the user studies and the User Experience (UX), one of the research in practice discipline, was measured. The quantitative information science methods including simple frequency analysis were applied to more than ten thousand published papers to generate the network mapping and ranking as well as comparative analysis by time. The analysis result showed that there were slightly lesser overlap between the user studies and the UX in the domestically published articles than the international ones. It also revealed that there is a relationship between the actual occurrences of collaboration and the keyword overlap. The temporal analysis showed that there is increasingly more keyword overlap between two disciplines and thus it is possible to predict the active convergence in the future.

  • In recent innovation trends, one notable feature is the merging and overlapping of technologies: in other words, technological convergence. A key technological convergence is the fusion of biotechnology (BT) and information technology (IT). Major IT advances have led to innovative devices that allow us to advance BT. However, the lack of data on IT-BT convergence is a major impediment: relatively little research has analyzed the inter-disciplinary relationship of different industries. We propose a systematic approach to analyzing the technological convergence of BT and IT. Patent analysis, including citation and co-classification analyses, was adopted as a main method to measure the convergence intensity and coverage, and two portfolio matrices were developed to manage the technological convergence. The contribution of this paper is that it provides practical evidences for IT-BT convergence, based on quantitative data and systematic processes. This has managerial implications for each sector of IT and BT.

  • After the Korean Wave with the industrialization of acting arts, scientific actors management has been demanded for the purpose of investment stabilization in related areas. This study was undertaken to develop a new convergence actors evaluation model applying inter-disciplinary research. The assessment factors were selected through literature reviews and the consensus of experts has been derived through Delphi Method. In conclusion, the evaluation criteria for the actors were drawn by 10 different factors. They are composed of qualitative factors such as the ability of acting and communication, degree of understanding of works and production system, actor philosophy and stability of the actors' self-management, physical condition and image, passion and enthusiasm for acting and works, and performance factors such as the stardom, fandom, philmography, audience share and ticket power, and network size and quality.

  • The government was fully aware of the gravity of a recent massive leak of personal information of credit card users. Meanwhile, the government just took a light disciplinary action by imposing a fine, but it showed its intention to strengthen the regulations by taking the severest disciplinary action. The tightened regulations against personal information leak will be applied to the private security industry without exception to protect individual people's property and lives if such an incident occurs in that industry that deals with a wide variety of personal information such as CCTV data or privacy information all the time. The purpose of this study was to examine the state of the protection and management of personal information for service users among private security firms in an effort to suggest some reform measures. The findings of the study were as follows: First, administrators or managers who are involved with personal information protection should make a full-fledged effort to gather information. Second, counseling or related programs should be provided for small and mid-sized security firms to guarantee thorough personal information protection. Third, Korea Security Association should improve the educational system related to personal information protection to resolve problems with this education currently provided for managers and employees of these companies.
