  • Objective : There are many cases in which degenerative changes are prevalent in both the cervical and lumbar spine, and the relation between both spinal degenerative findings of MRI is controversial. The authors analyzed the prevalence of abnormal findings on MRI, and suggested a model to explain the relationship between cervical and lumbar disc in asymptomatic Korean subjects. Methods : We performed 3 T MRI sagittal scans on 102 asymptomatic subjects (50 men and 52 women) who visited our hospital between the ages of 14 and 82 years (mean age 46.3 years). Scores pertaining to herniation (HN), annular fissure (AF), and nucleus degeneration (ND) were analyzed. The total scores for the cervical and lumbar spine were analyzed using correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression with various predictive parameters, including weight, height, sex, age, smoking, occupation, and sedentary fashion. Results : The correlation coefficients of HN, AF, and ND were 0.44, 0.50, and 0.59, respectively. We made the best model for relationship by using multiple linear regression. Conclusion : The results of the current study showed that there was a close relationship between the cervical score (CS) and lumbar score (LS). In addition, the correlation between CS and LS, as well as the LS value itself, can be altered by other explanatory variables. Although not absolute, there was also a linear relationship between degenerative changes of the cervical and lumbar spine. Based on these results, it can be inferred that degenerative changes of the lumbar spine will be useful in predicting the degree of cervical spine degeneration in an actual clinical setting.

  • In this paper, we introduce the integral operator $I_{\beta}$($p_1$, ${\ldots}$, $p_n$; ${\alpha}_1$, ${\ldots}$, ${\alpha}_n$)(z) analytic functions with positive real part. The radius of convexity of this integral operator when ${\beta}$ = 1 is determined. In particular, we get the radius of starlikeness and convexity of the analytic functions with Re {f(z)/z} > 0 and Re {f'(z)} > 0. Furthermore, we derive sufficient condition for the integral operator $I_{\beta}$($p_1$, ${\ldots}$, $p_n$; ${\alpha}_1$, ${\ldots}$, ${\alpha}_n$)(z) to be analytic and univalent in the open unit disc, which leads to univalency of the operators $\int\limits_0^z(f(t)/t)^{\alpha}$dt and $\int\limits_0^z(f'(t))^{\alpha}dt$.

  • The power cable tunnels which are part of the underground transmission line project, are constructed using the shield TBM method. The disc cutter among the shield TBM components plays an important role in breaking rock mass. Efficient tunnel construction is possible only when appropriate replacement occurs as the wear limit is reached or damage such as uneven wear occurs. A study was conducted to determine the wear conditions of disc cutter using a deep learning algorithm based on real-time measurement data of wear and rotation speed. Based on the results of full-scaled tunnelling tests, it was confirmed that measurement data was obtained differently depending on the wear conditions of disc cutter. Using real-time measurement data, an algorithm was developed to determine disc cutter wear characteristics based on a convolutional neural network model. Distributional patterns of data can be learned through CNN filters, and the performance of the model that can classify uniform wear and uneven wear through these pattern features.

  • In this article, we deduced some new inequalities related to hyper-Bessel function. By using these inequalities we will find some sufficient conditions under which certain families of integral operators are convex in the open unit disc. Some applications related to these results are also the part of our investigation.

  • The Buseok pluton in the Yeongju Batholith is a comagmatic plutonic rocks which haveconcentrically compositional zoning. The lithofacies of the Buseok pluton comprise hornblende biotite tonalite in the southern part of the pluton, porphyritic and equigranular biotite granodiorite in the northern part and biotite granite in the north-central part. The compositional variations change gradually with continuity both within and between the lithofacies. The concentrically zoned pattern is relatively mafic rocks composed of high-temperature mineral assemblages in margin of the southern part, passing inward and northward gradually to more felsic rock in core of the north-central part. Changes in the textures and microstructures, as well as in the mineral content, take place between rock types of the plutons. Darker colored, generally coarse-grained, well foliated tonalite pass inward to light colored, coarse-grained, poorly foliated granodiorite, and finally give way to lighter colored, medium-grained, nearly nonfoliated granite. The foliation are best developed in the marginal part of the tonalite. Here, the regional myolitic foliation in the tonalite is steep northward and parallels to its southeastern contact with the country rock, but the magmatic foliation from disc-shaped mafic microgranitoid enclaves is subvertical and parallels the contacts with the country rock. As the tonalite approaches biotite granite in composition, the foliation is indistinct. Modal and chemical data for the pluton show quantitative compositional variation from the margin of the southern part to the core of the north-central part. Quartz and K-feldspar increase toward the core of the pluton, whereas hornblende, biotite and color index decrease. /Abundances of $SiO_2$and $K_2O$$_2$O increase toward the core according to the variation in quartz and K-feldspar, whereas those of MnO, CaO, $TiO_2$, $Fe_2O_3$, MgO and $P_2O_5$ decrease corresponding to the variation in mafic and accessaries. The compositional zonation resulted from fractional crystallization involving downward settling of earlier crystals, accompanied by upward movement of melt and volatiles, and followed by accessary marginal accretion of crystalline material in the magma to the marginal part. Although a little crustal contamination by the wall rock is recognized from the isotope data, the contamination is not only dominated over but also appropriate for forming the compositional variation in the pluton.

  • The purpose of this study is to to analyze the mechanical stress on articular disk of the dentated skull with the condition of unilateral posterior molar missing. For this study, the three dimensional finite element model of human skull scanned by means of computed tomography. (G.E. 8800 Quick, USA) was constructed. The finite element model of jaws is composed of 98,394 elements and 38,321 nodes, and it consists of articular disc, maxilla, mandible, teeth, periodontal ligament and cranium. Boundary condition included rigid restraints at the first molar and endosteal cortical surfaces of the insertion points of temporal bone. The data derived from Nelson's study were used for the loading conditions of mandible during clenchings and for maxilla, new loading and constraint conditions were applied. A clenching task during intercuspal position was modeled to the three dimensional finite element model. The stress level and displacement of articualr disc on the model with unilateral posterior molar missing under bilateral clenching task can be analyzed. During bilateral clenchings, the compressive stress level and diplacement of the articular disk on the side of unilateral posterior molar missing is greater than that on the case with full dentition, whereas a higher stress was found on the disk on the balancing side of the full dentition. Although this kind of study is not enough to explain the role of occlusion as an etiologic factor of TMD, there may be a possibiliy that the condition of posterior molar missings may contribute in part to the TMJ biomechanics.
