  • In many cases, rescue robots work under harsh conditions such as the presence of various obstacles, high temperature, and limited visibility, etc. These robots are required to have tough mechanical structure, good sensing and control capability, and reliable communication capability for receiving operator's command and sending information on the state of the robot and environment. In this study, a rescue robot that can investigate hazardous or disastrous sites with these capabilities is designed and implemented. The performance of the proposed rescue robot is tested under simulated disastrous environment.

  • Recent social needs for promoting traffic safety increased and the demand social security in economic, increasing the demand for environmentally friendly rail transport. In particular, when train express such as to secure reliability KTX(Korea Train eXpress) from potential disaster(fire) in the train operation caused by the train express running has been very important. Railroad fire extinguishing system is operated to fire exploding before reaching the flashing point more important than early to quickly detect because of CAN(Controller Area Network) communication to fire suppression and fire receiver, interface, fire fighting equipment from HMI((Human Machine Interface) and fire high-performance to research and development for intelligent composite fire receiver is required.

  • This paper deals with the paddle type end of arm tool for rescue robot instead of rescue worker in dangerous environments such as fire, earthquake, national disaster and defense. It is equipped at the dual arm manipulator of the rescue robot to safely lift up an injured person. It consists of the paddle for lifting person, sensors for detecting insertion of person onto the paddle, sensor for measuring the tilting angle of the paddle, and mechanical compliance part for preventing incidental injuries. The electronics is comprised of the DAQ module to acquire the sensors data, the control module to treat the sensors data and to manage the errors, and the communication module to transmit the sensors data. After optimally designing the mechanical and electronical parts, we successfully made the paddle type end of arm tool and evaluated its performance by using specially designed jigs. The developed paddle type end of arm tool is going to be applied to the rescue robot for performance verification through field testing.

  • In the midst of disaster, such as an earthquake or a nuclear radiation exposure area, there are huge risks to send human crews. Many robotic researchers have studied to send UGVs in order to replace human crews at dangerous environments. So far, two-dimensional camera information has been widely used for teleoperation of UGVs. Recently, three-dimensional information based teleoperations are attempted to compensate the limitations of camera information based teleoperation. In this paper, the 3D map information of indoor and outdoor environments reconstructed in real-time is utilized in the UGV teleoperation. Further, we apply the LTE communication technology to endure the stability of the teleoperation even under the deteriorate environment. The proposed teleoperation system is performed at explosive disposal missions and their feasibilities could be verified through completion of that missions using the UGV with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team of Busan Port Security Corporation.

  • Organizational citizenship behavior refers to the behavior of faithfully performing one's duties and being faithful to other roles. Firefighters' awareness of organizational citizenship behavior is closely related to national and individual safety and is very important. The smooth communication and cooperative attitude of fire department employees means organic unity at the disaster site. The purpose of this study was to analyze the awareness of organizational citizenship behavior among firefighters. As a result of analyzing the overall level of organizational citizenship behavior of firefighters, the average score was 3.83 points (out of 5). In particular, significant implications emerged regarding work-related appointment times and words and actions between co-workers. In the future, we hope that firefighting policy authorities will make a lot of efforts and academic research by subsequent generations will be conducted to make firefighting more trustworthy to the public.

  • This study uses Pathfinder software to simulate and analyze the safe evacuation of university dormitory occupants. Fire safety issues in densely populated dormitory buildings are gaining increasing attention, and improving emergency evacuation efficiency is crucial for reducing the harm caused by fire incidents. The study focuses on a student dormitory building in a university, simulating different evacuation scenarios and analyzing the impact of factors such as evacuation routes, personnel distribution, exit width, and stair width on evacuation time. Based on the actual dormitory conditions, parameters such as gender ratio, height range, shoulder width, and walking speed of the occupants were set, and evacuation times in various scenarios were compared. The simulation results show that proper planning of evacuation routes and increasing stair width significantly reduced evacuation times. The study recommends that universities establish systematic emergency response plans, conduct regular evacuation drills, optimize student dormitory layouts, and consider increasing stair width in dormitory building designs to improve evacuation efficiency and safety.
