  • In recent years, the study of slice Dirac operators has attracted more and more attention in the literature. In this paper, Almansitype decompositions for null solutions to the iterated slice Dirac operator and the generalized slice Dirac operator are obtained without a star-like domain centered at the origin. As applications, we investigate Riquier type problems and Dirichlet type problems in the theory of slice monogenic functions.

  • This paper studies the eigenvalues of the G(·)-Laplacian Dirichlet problem $$\{-div\;\(\frac{g(x,\;{\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid})}{{\mid}{\nabla}u{\mid}}{\nabla}u\)={\lambda}\;\(\frac{g(x,{\mid}u{\mid})}{{\mid}u{\mid}}u\)\;in\;{\Omega}, \\u\;=\;0\;on\;{\partial}{\Omega},$$ where Ω is a bounded domain in ℝN and g is the density of a generalized Φ-function G(·). Using the Lusternik-Schnirelmann principle, we show the existence of a nondecreasing sequence of nonnegative eigenvalues.

  • The aim of this paper is to obtain nonlinear operators in suitable spaces whise fixed point coincide with the solutions of the nonlinear boundary value problems ($\Phi$($\upsilon$'))'=f(t, u, u'), l(u, u') = 0, where l(u, u')=0 denotes the Dirichlet, Neumann or periodic boundary conditions on [0, T], $\Phi$: N N is a suitable monotone monotone homemorphism and f:[0, T] N N is a Caratheodory function. The special case where $\Phi$(u) is the vector p-Laplacian $\mid$u$\mid$p-2u with p>1, is considered, and the applications deal with asymptotically positive homeogeneous nonlinearities and the Dirichlet problem for generalized Lienard systems.

  • In this article we are concerned with some non-local problems of Kirchhoff type with Dirichlet boundary condition in Orlicz-Sobolev spaces. A result of the existence of infinitely many solutions is established using variational methods and Ricceri's critical points principle modified by Bonanno.

  • The effect of the Dirichlet boundary condition for the redistance equation of level set method on the solutionof sloshing problem is investigated by adopting four Dirichlet boundary conditions. For the solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, P1P1 four-step fractional finite element method is employed and a least-square finite element method is used for the solutions of the two hyperbolic type equations of level set method; advection and redistance equation. ALE (Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian) method is used to deal with a moving computational domain. It has been shown that the free surface motion in a sloshing tank is strongly dependent on the type of the Dirichlet boundary condition and the results of broken dam and sloshing problems using various Dirichlet boundary conditions are discussed and compared with the existing experimental results.

  • In this paper we explore the emergence of the notion of compactness within its historical beginning through rigor versus intuition modes in the treatment of Dirichlet's principle. We emphasize on the intuition in Riemann's statement on the principle criticized by Weierstrass' requirement of rigor followed by Hilbert's restatement again criticized by Hadamard, which pushed the ascension of the notion of compactness in the analysis of PDEs. A brief overview of some techniques and problems involving compactness is presented illustrating the importance of this notion. Compactness is discussed here to raise educational issues regarding rigor vs intuition in mathematical studies. The concept of compactness advanced rapidly after Weierstrass's famous criticism of Riemann's use of the Dirichlet principle. The rigor of Weierstrass contributed to establishment of the concept of compactness, but such a focus on rigor blinded mathematicians to big pictures. Fortunately, Poincar$\acute{e}$ and Hilbert defended Riemann's use of the Dirichlet principle and found a balance between rigor and intuition. There is no theorem without rigor, but we should not be a slave of rigor. Rigor (highly detailed examination with toy models) and intuition (broader view with real models) are essentially complementary to each other.

  • We reconstruct the assembly pinwise flux using several types of boundary conditions and confirm that the reconstructed fluxes are the same with the reference flux if the boundary condition is exact. We test EPRI-9R benchmark problem with four boundary conditions, such as Dirichlet boundary condition, Neumann boundary condition, homogeneous mixed boundary condition (albedo type), and inhomogeneous mixed boundary condition. We also test reconstruction of the pinwise flux from nodal values, specifically from the AFEN [1, 2] results. From the nodal flux distribution we obtain surface flux and surface current distributions, which can be used to construct various types of boundary conditions. The result show that the Neumann boundary condition cannot be used for iterative schemes because of its ill-conditioning problem and that the other three boundary conditions give similar accuracy. The Dirichlet boundary condition requires the shortest computing time. The inhomogeneous mixed boundary condition requires only slightly longer computing time than the Dirichlet boundary condition, so that it could also be an alternative. In contrast to the fixed-source type problem resulting from the Dirichlet, Neumann, inhomogeneous mixed boundary conditions, the homogeneous mixed boundary condition constitutes an eigenvalue problem and requires longest computing time among the three (Dirichlet, inhomogeneous mixed, homogeneous mixed) boundary condition problems.
