Performance Analysis of Array Processing Techniques for GNSS Receivers under Array Uncertainties

  • In this study, the effect of the steering vector model mismatch due to array uncertainties on the performance of array processing was analyzed through simulation, along with the alleviation of the model mismatch effect depending on array calibration. To increase the reliability of the simulation results, the actual steering vector of the array antenna obtained by electromagnetic simulation was used along with the Jahn's channel model, which is an experimental channel model. Based on the analysis of the power spectrum for each direction, beam pattern, and the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio of the beamformer output, the performance deterioration of array processing due to array uncertainties was examined, and the performance improvement of array processing through array calibration was also examined.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm to determine the receiver position in satellite navigation for GPS(Global Positioning System). The algorithm which based on vector analysis is able to obtain simultaneously the receiver position and the direction vector which is from the receiver position to a satellite. In its first calculation stage it, does riot require the complex initial value which is used in the previous works and affects the accuracy of the observed receiver position. Furthermore, the algorithm tells us whether a selected configuration among the visible satellites is good or poor for the accuracy. Comparing the algorithm with the previous method, the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified through the experimental simulations.

  • A cylindrical shape object is widely used as a mechanical part and a water pipe or an oil pipeline which are of cylindrical shape are widely used in the infrastructure. In order to handling such objects automatically using a robot, the posture i.e. orientation in 3D space should be recognized. However, since there is no edge or vertex in the pipe, it is very difficult task for the robot. In this paper in order to guide the robot, two kind of algorithms which find the axis using the measured range data from the robot to the object surface are to be developed. The algorithms are verified using both the simulated range data and the measured one.

  • In this paper a new smoothing method of unstructured viscous grid which can be useful when the ALM(Advacning Layer Method) method is used to generate volume grids of prism cells starting with unstructured triangular surface grids. According to the new method two layers of prism cells in the advancing direction which are found by the vector smoothing method are first generated, and then the position of nodes along the middle layer are adjusted by using spring analogy. It is found that the proposed method improves grid quality of the unstructured viscous volume grids for body shape with convex and concave corners.

A Study on the Five - hole Probe Calibration with Non-nulling Method (비영위법에 의한 5공 프로브의 교정에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is concerned with a method for calibrating five-hole probes of both angle-tube and prismatic geometries to measure local total and static pressures and the magnitude and direction of the mean velocity vector. Descriptions of the calibration technique, the typical calibration data, and an accompanying discussion of the interpolation procedure are included. The flow properties are determined explicitly from measured probe pressures using calibration data. Flow angles are obtained within the deviation angle of 1.0 degree and dynamic pressures within 0.03 with 95% certainty. The variations in the calibration data due to Reynolds number are also discussed. For the range of Reynolds number employed, no effect was detected on the pitch, yaw and total pressure coefficients. However, the static pressure coefficient showed change to cause minor variations in the magnitude of the calculated velocity vector. To account for these variations, average correction factors need to be incorporated into the static pressure coefficient.

Flow Field Analysis of Smoke in a Rectangular Tunnel

  • In order to simulate a smoke or poisonous gas emergency in a rectangular tunnel and to investigate a better way to exhaust the smoke, the characteristics of smoke flow have been analyzed using flow field data acquired by Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV). Olive oil has been used as tracer particles with the kinematic viscosity of air, $1.51{\times}10^{-5}\;m^2/s$. The investigation has done in the range of Reynolds number of 1600 to 5333 due to the inlet velocities of 0.3 m/s to 1 m/s respectively. The average velocity vector and instantaneous kinematic energy fields with respect to the three different Reynolds numbers are comparatively discussed by the Flow Manager. In general, the smoke flow becomes more disorderly and turbulent with the increase of Reynolds number. Kinematic energy in the measured region increases with the increase of Reynolds number while decreasing at the leeward direction about the outlet region.

  • This paper presents a new matching algorithm for fingerprint recognition, which is robust to image translation. The basic idea of this paper is to estimate the translation vector of an imput fingerprint image using N minutiae at which the gradient of the ridge direction field is large. Using the estimated translation vector we select minutiae irrelevant to the translation. We experimentally prove that the presented algorithm results in good performance even if there are large translation and pseudo-minutiae.

  • The electro-magnetic vector equation(F=$qv{\times}B$ ; F:force, B:magnetic field, q:plus charge, v :velocity of the charge) explains well about the rotations of electron and positron under the magnetic field[Ref.1], as in Fig.1(a). Because the electro-magnetic wave is also a motion of the alternating charge and magnetic field as in Fig.2, the force vector has all the time inwarding direction and then the wave has a rotating motion. The positron in the proton has constant charge and alternating one at the same time[Ref.2] and then the alternating charge makes the absorbing force with the alternating charge of the rotating wave ($\pi$-ray) around the nucleus[Ref.2].   • This paper presents an operation scheme to enhance the power system security by applying FACTS on Power systems. Three main generic types of FACTS devices are suggested an illustrated. Flow congestions over lines have been solved by controlling active power of series-compensated FACTS devices and low voltages at buses have been solved by controlling reactive power of shunt-compensated FACTS devices. Especially, Especially, UPFC has been applied in both line congestion and low voltages. Two kinds of indices which indicate the power system security level related to line flow and bus voltage are utilized in this paper. They have been minimized to enhance the power system security level through the iterative method and the sensitivity vector of security index is derived to determine the direction to minimum. The proposed algorithm has been tested on the IEEE 57-bus system with FACTS devices in a normal condition and a line-faulted contingency.
