  • The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of AI courseware for mathematics learning based on Choppin et al.'s (2014) digital typology and to derive implications for directions for AI courseware development. For this purpose, 12 types of AI courseware actively used in domestic were selected for analysis, and the characteristics of these AI courseware in terms of program-student interaction, teacher' s lesson design, and evaluation system were analyzed. As a result, each AI courseware provided unique functional features for students, teachers, and evaluation, but the ability to modify and configure teaching and learning was limited. Based on these results, implications for the direction of development of AI courseware in mathematics education were presented.

  • In this paper, an assembly education training system is presented using AR (augmented reality). The effectiveness of the training using the proposed system is verified on a PC assembly training experiment. The experimental results confirmed the training using the proposed system is more effective than that using the conventional systems based on texts and images by reducing the assembly (task) time.

  • Educational tools for infants and younger students are becoming smarter as ICT-based digital technology convergence extends according to the development of technology. As the digital interaction function of smart education tools gives students greater immersion and fun, a learning might become a play to the students. The technologies used in the implementation of smart education tools come from the disciplines of robotics, computer engineering, programming, and engineering and mathematical foundations and these can be integrated into the field of education itself. This paper designs and implements a product based on optimized physical computing for R&D and education in consideration of the characteristics of educational tool robots used in the field education. It was developed to enable physical education for sensing information processing, software design and programming practice training that is the basis of robot system.

  • This study shows that the policy directions to invigorate smart education for special education based on the view of special education teachers through AHP methodology. The result shows that development of smart contents, supporting for teaching and learning, smart education networking, establishment of legal foundation and supporting for infrastructure are relatively important policy ordered by weights. The analysis indicates that the contents development policy should be strategic direction for smart education in special education.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify problems of usability and to improve an interface in the digital textbook for leaner's leading to self-directed learning. To address those goals, the theory of affordance, which was related to affordance as leading to behavior, was applied for analyzing the user interface of digital textbook. Also, 10 students, 4th grade elementary school, were participated in the study. Participants were reported affordance's problems of digital textbook through Human Computer Interaction. As a result, some affordance's problems of the digital textbook were found out as follow; difficulty of page clicking, too small touch button, confusing the button, and, need to specific guidance. Based on the result, some suggestions were recommended to improve usability of digital textbook.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze inductively Critical Success Factors of Digital Textbook-Based Instruction based on qualitative research. To accomplish the purpose of the study, D elementary school in Incheon, one of digital textbook model schools, was selected as the school for observation. Three fifth graders and their teacher were interviewed and their six lessons were used for analyzing teaching and learning activities in digital textbook-based instruction. The results of the study, 'the use of systematic strategies based on multimedia features', 'information literacy-related questions and answers', 'specific guidance and help', 'the stability of the physical system and equipment', 'active collaborative learning and interaction', 'individual self-directed learning', 'consideration of emotional/physical changes', 'selection and concentration based upon available resources were identified as critical success factors of digital textbook-based instruction.

  • In this paper, we propose to develop a diagnosis tool for measuring digital competence for university student. To this end, 223 students participated for the survey research. Based on the survey by 6 domain and 40 questions, 6 factors and 18 questions for digital competence measurement were drawn throughout the factors analysis. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis showed the fact that 6 factors and 18 questions that satisfied the model-fit indexes statistically were finally confirmed. And the developed tool demonstrated good results in reliability and validity verification, which were suitable for measuring digital competence for university students. The developed measurement tool of digital competence for university students consisted of 6 sub-components such digital device operation, communication and collaboration, information searching, processing, and management, problem solving and learning, security, digital ethics. The digital competence measuring tool developed in this study is expected to be used to identify the current level of competences for university student, and to enhance their own digital competences through educational supports.

  • This study is a theoretical account of HRs requirements in educational institutions in light of the growing influence of digital technology on human rights. It intends to reveal prominent human and civilizational values encapsulated in modern human rights regulations. It dwells on educational and societal requirements for educational inclusion in the school and university curricula in light of changes that have taken place in HRs in the digital age. Relying on the descriptive documentary research design, the study concluded that HRs are inherently moral duties and fixed values. They include the importance of tolerance, freedom, peace, justice, science, work, and equality. Because education is arguably based on human and civilized values, educational foundations require intake of awareness, systematic integration and responsibility from all academic and community institutions, including family and media institutions. The article closes on a note of how technology has impacted human rights in the digital age. It provides implications and recommendations to pedagogies accordingly.

  • To improve the accuracy and realism of the virtual surgical simulation system, this paper proposes an optimized mass-spring model with shape restoration ability based on volume conservation to simulate soft tissue deformation. The proposed method constructs a soft tissue surface model that adopts a new flexion spring for resisting bending and incorporates it into the mass-spring model (MSM) to restore the original shape. Then, we employ the particle swarm optimization algorithm to achieve the optimal solution of the model parameters. Besides, the volume conservation constraint is applied to the position-based dynamics (PBD) approach to maintain the volume of the deformable object for constructing the soft tissue volumetric model base on tetrahedrons. Finally, we built a simulation system on the PHANTOM OMNI force tactile interaction device to realize the deformation simulation of the virtual liver. Experimental results show that the proposed model has a good shape restoration ability and incompressibility, which can enhance the deformation accuracy and interactive realism.
