A Study on the Permeability through Concrete using RF Wireless Module for Reinforced Concrete Structure (철근콘크리트 구조물에 내제된 RF 무선송수신 모듈의 콘크리트 투과성 실험 연구)

  • Ubiquitous is an information communication environment which peoples could connect on network without being conscious of the network and computer condition at anytime and anywhere. Presently, advanced technology, digital cities and eco-friendly cities using Ubiquitous technology are being focused through out the world. As recent information industry and communication technology have developed remarkably, studies on intelligent structures and structural maintenance methods by combining a general idea of connecting all objects on network by interpolating computers which is called Ubiquitous Computing, and USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) are being attempted. In this paper, a basic experiment on penetration of RF(Radio Frequency) sensor nodes using an experimental sample setting concrete and reinforcing bar as variables is studied to estimate the possibility of applying wireless sensor networks in structures. The spring of reinforcing bars, concrete thickness, intensity of radio frequency were set up as variables, transmitting and receiving distance were checked vertically and horizontally. Moreover, Spectrum Analyzer was used for checking the magnitude of the frequency used in order to measure the reduction of radio wave exactly. The radio wave reduction was numerically analyzed, and the influence of the wavelength was analysed as well. As a result, the penetration depth in concrete without reinforcing bars was 45cm, and in reinforced concretes which reinforcing bars placed at spacing of 5cm and 15cm, the penetration depth were 37cm and 45cm each. No influence on radio wave penetration depth were found when the spacing of reinforcing bars in the reinforced concrete structures becomes over 15cm.

Adjacent Pixels based Noise Mitigation Filter in Salt & Pepper Noise Environments (Salt & Pepper 잡음 환경에서 인접 픽셀 기반 잡음 완화 필터)

  • Digital images and videos are subject to various types of noise during storage and transmission. Among these noises, Salt & Pepper noise degrades the compression efficiency of the original data and causing deterioration of performance in edge detection or segmentation used in an image processing method. In order to mitigate this noise, there are many filters such as Median Filter, Weighted Median Filter, Center Weighted Median Filter, Switching Weighted Median Filter and Adaptive Median Filter. However these methods are inferior in performance at high noise density. In this paper we propose a new type of filter for noise mitigation in wireless communication environment where Salt & Pepper noise occurs. The proposed filter detects the location of the damaged pixel by Salt & Pepper noise detection and mitigates the noise by using adjacent pixel values which are not damaged in a certain area. Among the proposed filters, the performance of the filter using the $3{\times}3$ error mask is compared with that of the conventional methods and it is confirmed that when density of noise in the image is 95%, their performances are improved as 13.24 dB compared to MF and 13.09 dB compared to AMF.

Noise Simulation of Road Traffic in Urban Area Using LiDAR Data for U-City Construction (U-City 건설을 위한 LiDAR 자료를 이용한 도심지 도로교통소음 영향의 시뮬레이션 분석)

  • In this study, we have intended to precisely analyze the aspect of propagation and the extent of damage due to the traffic noise as hon as a main source of noise in urban area. The propagation of traffic noise has a strong relationship between distance and shape of surface. Thus, it is necessary to consider the distribution of buildings for estimating effects of noise in urban area because noise propagations will be affected by buildings. For this, we developed the DEM and DBM using the airborne LiDAR data in the study area and compared with results from the noise simulations using the each model. The extent of damage occurred by the traffic noise above 60 dB(A) from the case of DEM were shown at the 60% of a whole study area, whereas the extent from other case of DBM were shown at the 30% of a whole study area. Also, the extent of the noise levels between 45 dB(A) and 50 dB(A) will be generally recognized as calm environment was increased(the 0% to the 43%) in the case which simulated with building informations. These results indicated that the shape informations of buildings like a DBM is a essential source to simulate the propagation of traffic noise in urban area especially. With results in this study, the effect of traffic noise at a specific area will be easily and precisely estimated if we have the LiDAR data and a traffic census for Korea. Furthermore specific area's traffic noise simulation could be possible using only road traffic information once we have DBM data from LiDAR surveying. This also could be applied as a base data for noise pollution petitioning, traffic planning, construction, etc. in huge city planning projects like a U-City.

  • In this paper, The PC interface for packet terminal of ISDN is designed and implemented in order to build packet communication networks which share computer resources and exchange informations between computer in the ISDN environment. The PC interface for packet terminal of ISDN constitutes S interface handler part which controls functions of ISDN layer1 and layer 2, constitutes packet handler part which controls services of X.25 protocol in the packet level.Where, The function of ISDN layer1 provides rules of electrical and mechanical characteristics, services for ISDN layer 2. The function of ISDN layer 2 provides function of LAPD procedure, services for X.25 The X.25 specifies interface between DCE and DTE for terminals operrating in the packet mode. The S interface handler part is orfanized by Am 79C30 ICs manufactured by Advanecd Micro Devices. ISDN packet handler part is organiged by AmZ8038 for FIFO for the purpose of D channel. The common signal procedure for D channel is controlled by Intel's 8086 microprocessor. The S interface handler part is based on ISDN layer1,2 is controlled by mail box in order to communicate between layers. The ISDN packet handler part is based on module in the X.25 lebel. The communication between S interface handler part and ISDN packet handler part is organized by interface controller.

An Efficient Iterative Decoding Stop Criterion Algorithm using Error Probability Variance Value of Turbo Code (터보부호의 오류확률 분산값을 이용한 효율적인 반복중단 알고리즘)

  • Turbo code, a kind of error correction coding technique, has been used in the field of digital mobile communication systems. And it is well known about the fact that turbo code has better the BER performance as the number of decoding iterations increases in the AWGN channel environment. However, as the number of decoding iterations is increased under the several channel environments, any further iteration results in very little improvement, and it requires much delay, computation and power consumption in proportion to the number of decoding iterations. In this paper, it proposes the efficient iterative decoding stop criterion algorithm which can largely reduce the average number of decoding iterations of turbo code. Through simulations, it is verifying that the proposed algorithm can efficiently stop the iterative decoding by using the variance value of error probability for the soft output value, and can largely reduce the average number of decoding iterations without BER performance degradation. As a result of simulation, the average number of decoding iterations for the proposed algorithm is reduced by about 2.25% ~14.31% and 3.79% ~14.38% respectively compared to conventional schemes, and power consumption is saved in proportion to the number of decoding iterations.

  • An effective integration of web-based learning environment and mobile device technology is considered as a new challenge to the developers. The screen size, however, of the mobile device is too small, and its performance is too inferior. Due to the foregoing limit of mobile technology, displaying bulk data on the mobile screen, such as a cyber lecture accompanied with real-time image transmission on the web, raises a lot of problems. Users have difficulty in recognizing learning contents exactly by means of a mobile device, and continuous transmission of video stream with bulky information to the mobile device arouses a lot of load for the mobile system. Thus, an application which is developed to be applied in PC is improper to be used for the mobile device as it is, a player which is fitting for the mobile device should be developed. Accordingly, this paper suggests mobile presentation using transcoding techniques of the field concerned. To display continuous video frames of learning image, such as a cyber lecture or remote lecture, by means of a mobile device, the performance difference between high-resolution digital image and mobile device should be surmounted. As the transcoding techniques to settle the performance difference causes damage of image quality, high-quality image may be guaranteed by application of trial and error between transcoding and selected learning resources.

Extraction of Water Depth in Coastal Area Using EO-1 Hyperion Imagery (EO-1 Hyperion 영상을 이용한 연안해역의 수심 추출)

  • With rapid development of science and technology and recent widening of mankind's range of activities, development of coastal waters and the environment have emerged as global issues. In relation to this, to allow more extensive analyses, the use of satellite images has been on the increase. This study aims at utilizing hyperspectral satellite images in determining the depth of coastal waters more efficiently. For this purpose, a partial image of the research subject was first extracted from an EO-1 Hyperion satellite image, and atmospheric and geometric corrections were made. Minimum noise fraction (MNF) transformation was then performed to compress the bands, and the band most suitable for analyzing the characteristics of the water body was selected. Within the chosen band, the diffuse attenuation coefficient Kd was determined. By deciding the end-member of pixels with pure spectral properties and conducting mapping based on the linear spectral unmixing method, the depth of water at the coastal area in question was ultimately determined. The research findings showed the calculated depth of water differed by an average of 1.2 m from that given on the digital sea map; the errors grew larger when the water to be measured was deeper. If accuracy in atmospheric correction, end-member determination, and Kd calculation is enhanced in the future, it will likely be possible to determine water depths more economically and efficiently.

Multisensory based AR System for Education of Cultural Heritage

  • In this paper, we propose a multisensory(i.e., visual-auditory-tactile) based AR system for the education of cultural heritage. The proposed system provides a multisensory interaction by designing a user to experience with a 3D printed artifact which is mapped by a virtual 3D content of digital heritage. Compared with the existing systems of cultural heritage education based on augmented reality(AR) technology, this system focused on not only providing learning experience via a sense of visual and auditory, but also a sense of tactile. Furthermore, since this systems mainly provided the direct interactions using a 3D printed model, it gives a higher degree of realism than existing system that use touch or click motions on a 2D display of mobile phones and tablets. According to a result of user testing, we concluded that the proposed system delivered the excellent presence and learning flow to users. Particularly, from the usability evaluation, a 3D printed target artifact which is similar in shape to original heritage artifact, achieved the highest scores among the various tested targets.

A Study on the Research Trends for Smart City using Topic Modeling (토픽 모델링을 활용한 스마트시티 연구동향 분석)

  • This study aims to analyze the research trends on Smart City and to present implications to policy maker, industry professional, and researcher. Cities around globe have undergone the rapid progress in urbanization and the consequent dramatic increase in urban dwellings over the past few decades, and faced many urban problems in such areas as transportation, environment and housing. Cities around the globe are in a hurry to introduce Smart City to pursue a common goal of solving these urban problems and improving the quality of their lives. However, various conceptual approaches to smart city are causing uncertainty in setting policy goals and establishing direction for implementation. The study collected 11,527 papers titled "Smart City(cities)" from the Scopus DB and Springer DB, and then analyze research status, topic, trends based on abstracts and publication date(year) information using the LDA based Topic Modeling approaches. Research topics are classified into three categories(Services, Technologies, and User Perspective) and eight regarding topics. Out of eight topics, citizen-driven innovation is the most frequently referred. Additional topic network analysis reveals that data and privacy/security are the most prevailing topics affecting others. This study is expected to helps understand the trends of Smart City researches and predict the future researches.

A Study on the Acquisiton Methods of Theater Collections (연극기록물의 수집방안 연구)

  • This study is intended to recommend for acquisition methods of the theatre collection. Theatre activities is representative of the performing arts, and the Korea theatre history start from the modern history of Korea. In the meantime, theatre collections has already been lost by a lack of effort and management, and scattered most of the collections. In particular, a one-off nature and volatility of theatrical performances make future generations to enjoy the performances and to study should consult the relevant records. Therefore, collecting records can be very serious mission. In this study, theatre collections of the country which aims to collect and analyze the characteristics and type of theatre collections. Based on this information, collection scope, targets, priorities, acquisition level, method of collecting are proposed the following. First, collection scope is defined for the theatre related collections which was performed nationwide in the 1900s, the times that modern theatre was begun. The object includes related information of planning, administration, drama (script), directing, stage design, public relations, production, evaluation, personal records, biographical data, group data and space data. Second, the theatre collections are divided into records and historical records. Priority of collections object is determined by the historical value and the theatre performed by the support of public organization. Third, the acquisition level is divided into archived, mirrored, web linked and database, which is proposed by the determined levels of mandatory, recommend and discretion according to the characteristic of performance. Fourth, acquisition methods are suggested by the general acquisition methods of transfer, donation and purchase as well as the methods of copy, production, legal deposit, entry and web link etc. The acquisition of theatre collections is executed on digital-based environment, and a centralized authority control should be establishmented. And through the development of network with theatre's stakeholders and the cooperation of related organizations, theatre collections acquisition is feasible.
