  • In this study, FDD algorithm was developed using the normalized distance method and general pattern classifier method that can be applied to constant air volume air handling unit(CAV AHU) system. The simulation model using TRNSYS and EES was developed in order to obtain characteristic data of CAV AHU system under the normal and the faulty operation. Sensitivity analysis of fault detection was carried out with respect to fault progress. When differential pressure of mixed air filter increased by more than about 105 pascal, FDD algorithm was able to detect the fault. The return air temperature is very important measurement parameter controlling cooling capacity. Therefore, it is important to detect measurement error of the return air temperature. Measurement error of the return air temperature sensor can be detected at below $1.2^{\circ}C$ by FDD algorithm. FDD algorithm developed in this study was found to indicate each failure modes accurately.

  • Distance relays need accurate current and voltage for determining the trip ignition. Therefore we must analyze nonlinear phenomena which cause distortion in signals first of all. This paper presents the effect of some distortion(arcing fault and current transformer saturation) in power system. The saturation of a current transformer distorts input current of a distance relay and arcing faults make current and voltage to be changed. This paper describes modeling methods of a current transformer and arcing faults, and describes the simulation result of two distance relay algorithms (discrete fourier transform and modified differential equation methods)

  • Conventional PDC relaying with 2nd harmonic restraint makes some doubt in reliability. It can contain second harmonic component to a large extent even during internal fault, and shows a tendency of relative reduction because of the advancement of transformer's core material. It is, therefore, necessary to develop a new algorithm as well as a new technique for the effective and accurate discrimination. This paper deals with advanced algorithm, fuzzy logic based relaying by using flux differential, and a new fault detection criterion logic scheme by using wavelet transform. To comparative analysis of proposed techniques, the paper constructs power system model including power transformer, utilizing the EMTP, and collects data through simulation of various internal faults and magnetizing inrush.

  • For stator winding protection of AC generator, KCL(Kirchhoff's Current Law) is widely applied. Actually a CRDR(Current Ratio Differential Relay) based on DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) has been used for protecting generator. It has been pointed out that defects can occur during the process of transforming a time domain signal into a frequency domain one which can lead to loss of time domain information. Wavelets techniques are proposed for the analysis of power system transients. This paper introduces an algorithm to choose a suitable Mother Wave1et for generator stator fault detection. For optimal selection, we analyzed db(Daubechies), sym(Symlets), and coif(Coiflects) of Mother Wavelet. And we compared with performance of the choice algorithm using detail coefficients energy and RMS(root mean square) error. It can be improved the reliability of the conventional DFT based CRDR. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme is proved with simulation using collected data obtained from ATP (Alternative Transient Program) package.

  • This paper analyzes operation sensitivity of a relay, a blind spot of differential protection relaying, and how to protect the blind spot in protective relying of $3{\Phi}$ Y-Delta transformer consisting of three $1{\Phi}$ transformers which Korean pumped storage power plants have been using. Each different protective relayings must be adopted because there are differences between $3{\Phi}$ trans-former and $3{\Phi}$ transformer consisting of three $1{\Phi}$ trans formers. Also, in the system using high resistance grounding for fault current restriction of delta side, protection for delta side faults have to be considered properly.

  • The round reduction on block cipher is a fault injection attack in which an attacker inserts temporary errors in cryptographic devices and extracts a secret key by reducing the number of operational round. In this paper, we proposed an improved round reduction method to retrieve master keys by injecting a fault during operation of loop statement in the Triple DES. Using laser fault injection experiment, we also verified that the proposed attack could be applied to a pure microprocessor ATmega 128 chip in which the Triple DES algorithm was implemented. Compared with previous attack method which is required 9 faulty-correct cipher text pairs and some exhaustive searches, the proposed one could extract three 56-bit secret keys with just 5 faulty cipher texts.

  • Vertical earthquake ground motion may magnify vertical dynamic responses of structures, and thus cause serious damage to bridges. As main support structures, piers and bearings play an important role in vertical seismic response analysis of girder bridges. In this study, the pier and bearing are simplified as a vertical series spring system without mass. Then, based on the assumption of small displacement, the equation of motion governing the simply-supported straight girder bridge under vertical ground motion is established including effects of vertical deformation of support structures. Considering boundary conditions, the differential quadrature method (DQM) is applied to discretize the above equation of motion into a MDOF (multi-degree-of-freedom) system. Then seismic responses of this MDOF system are calculated by a step-by-step integration method. Effects of support structures on vertical dynamic responses of girder bridges are studied under different vertical strong earthquake motions. Results indicate that support structures may remarkably increase or decrease vertical seismic responses of girder bridges. So it is of great importance to consider effects of support structures in structural seismic design of girder bridges in near-fault region. Finally, optimization of support structures to resist vertical strong earthquake motions is discussed.

  • This paper proposes a totally new method in the chaos characteristics' analysis of power systems, the introduction of topological invariants. Using a return histogram, a bifurcation graph was drawn. As well, the periodic orbits and topological invariants - the local crossing number, relative rotation rates, and linking number during the process of period-doubling bifurcation and chaos were extracted. This study also examined the effect on the topological invariants when the sensitive parameters were varied. In addition, the topological invariants of a three-dimensional embedding of a strange attractor were extracted and the result was compared with those obtained from differential equations. This could be a new approach to state detection and fault diagnosis in dynamical systems.

  • This paper introduces the design of a reduced order observer with unknown inputs for the purpose of fault detection and isolation(FDI) in a class of bilinear systems. To Analyze the observer and FDI, this paper uses BPF(block-pulse functions). The operational properties of BPF are much applied to the analysis of bilinear systems. The integral operational matrix BPF converts the form of the differential equation into the algebraic problems.

  • In this paper, a transient analysis method of Switched Reluctance Motors(SRM) is presented. The Finite Element Method(FEM) is used to model the nonlinear magnetic field and is coupled to the power circuits and mechanical system. The time derivative term in the differential equation is formulated by the time difference method. The proposed method is applied to a 4 phase 16/12 SRM to study starting characteristics and an fault due to the failure of a transistor in the converter.
