  • Disassembly scheduling is the problem of determining the ordering and disassembly schedules of used products while satisfying the demand of their parts of components over a certain planning horizon. The objective is to minimize the sum of purchase, setup, disassembly operation and inventory holding costs. This paper considers products with assembly structure, i.e. products without parts commonality, and suggests a heuristic in which an initial solution is obtained in the form of the minimal latest disassembly schedule, and then improved considering trade-offs among different cost factors. To show the performance of the heuristic suggested in this paper, computational experiments were done on the modified existing examples and the results show that the heuristic can give optimal of very near optimal solutions within very short computation times.

  • This study reviewed on the research trend of sources and utilization of the byproducts(Lignin) from bioethanol production process with lignocellulosic biomass such as wood, agri-processing by-products(corn fiber, sugarcane bagasse etc.) and energy crops(switch grass, poplar, Miscanthus etc.). During biochemical conversion process, only Cellulose and hemicellulosic fractions are converted into fermentable sugar, but lignin which represents the third largest fraction of lignocellulosic biomass is not convertible into fermentable sugars. It is therefore extremely important to recover and convert biomass-derived Lignin into high-value products to maintain economic competitiveness of cellulosic ethanol processes. It was introduced that lignin types and characteristics were different from various isolation methods and biomass sources. Also utilization and potentiality for market of those were discussed.

  • About 60% of the present drugs were developed from natural products with unique chemical diversity and biological activities. Hence, discovery of new bioactive compounds from natural products is still important for the drug development. On the other hand, breakthrough made in synthetic biology has also begun to supply us with many useful compounds through manipulation of biosynthetic gene for secondary metabolites. Theoretically, this approach can also be exploited to generate new unnatural compounds by intermixing genes from different biosynthetic pathway. Considering the potential, we are studying about bioactive compounds in natural sources, as well as the biosynthesis of natural products including engineering of the secondary metabolite enzymes to make new compounds in order to construct the methodological basis of the synthetic biology. In this symposium, engineering of secondary metabolite enzymes that are involved in the biosynthesis of plant polyketides to generate new compounds in our laboratory will be mainly introduced.

  • Comfortable sleeping itself is thought to be very much important to have great influence upon remaining lives. Bed-clothes can be an essential factor of comfortable bedding. Korea that has four seasons requires different blanket each season. The Koreans make change of use of the quilt at least 2 to 3 times a year. The quilt may vary depending upon use of either Ondol or bed. Brand bedding governs quilt market. Brand bedding shops have good cognition of customers to be located at the place easy to find out and to have various kinds of products and excellent designs and to take the lead in all of the areas. Non-brand bedding products are difficult to compete with brand products at the bedding market. This study investigated cases of not only management of non brand bedding but also competition between brand bedding and non brand bedding. First, How does non brand bedding elevate competitiveness to win at competition with brand bedding? Second, How dose non brand quilt's approach to consumers and sales strategies?

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the characterization of the pyrolysis products of propylene glycol(PG) and glycerine alone and together with tobacco. The weight change of the samples during the pyrolysis was measured by a thermal analyzer(STD-2960). The pyrolysis products were determined by GC/MS after pyrolysis using a curie-point pyrolyzer(CPP, $220^{\circ}C,\;420^{\circ}C,\;650^{\circ}C,\;and\;920^{\circ}C$) and a double-shot pyrolyzer(DSP, $220^{\circ}C,\;420^{\circ}C,\;650^{\circ}C,\;and\;800^{\circ}C$), respectively. The pyrolysis products from tobacco with and without the addition of PG($2\%$) and glycerine($2\%$ were assayed for its pyrolytic behavior. The results showed that a dramatic change in weight of PG and glycerine was observed at $175^{\circ}C\;and\;249^{\circ}C$, respectively. PG and glycerine showed different patterns for their pyrolysis products according to the method of pyrolysis. Namely, the change rate in pyrolysis with DSP was much higher than that of CPP at above $650^{\circ}C$. The major pyrolysis products of PG were propene, acetaldehyde, propanal, and acetol; the major pyrolysis products of glycerine were 2-propenal, 2-propenol, acetol, and acetic acid. In the pyrolysis experiments of tobacco added PG and glycerine, the pyrolysis products of PG and glycerine weren't detected additionally, except for diethyleneglycol diacetate. From these results, it can be concluded that the PG and glycerine added to tobacco would not be expected to pyrolyse extensively during smoking.

  • The cDNA of alcohol dehydrogenase (PgADH) was isolated and characterized from the leaf of Panax ginseng. The cDNA had an open reading frame of 801 bp and a deduced amino acid sequence of 266 residues. The calculated molecular mass of the mature protein is approximately 29 kDa with a predicated isoelectric point of 6.84. Homology analysis revealed that the deduced amino acid of PgADH shares a high degree of homology with the short-chain ADH proteins of other plants. Genomic DNA hybridization analysis indicated that PgADH represents a multi-gene family. The expression of PgADH under various environmental stresses was analyzed at different time points using real-time PCR. ABA, SA and especially JA (80-fold) significantly induced PgADH expression within 24 h of treatment. The positive responses of PgADH to abiotic stimuli suggest that ginseng ADH may protect against hormone-related environmental stresses.
