  • Purpose: This study examines and compares the differences between self-esteem and health promotion behavior of health department and non-health department college students. Method: The research instruments were as follows : The first one is RSES developed by Rosenberg and translated into Korean by Jeon. The second one is HPLP developed by Walker et al, and including six subareas by Lee and modified to be suitable to Korean culture by Suh. Data were statistically analyzed with SPSS PC/12.0. Results : 1. Comparison of self-esteem had no significant difference(p=.190) and health promotion behaviors had significant differences(p=.000) between the two groups. 2. According to general characteristics and health-related characteristics, the differences of self-esteem in health department showed significant differences in grade(p=.020), sex(p=.000), age(p=.000), parents' economic conditions(p=.048), and smoking(p=.030) while non-health departments revealed significant differences in grade(p=.003), sex(p=.000), age(p=.000) and smoking(p=.001). 3. According to general characteristics and health-related characteristics, the differences of health promotion behaviors in health department showed significant differences in grade(p=.008), sex(p=.021), age(p=.000) and parents' economic conditions(p=.017) while non-health department revealed significant differences in sex(p=.000) and age(p=.000). 4. There were positive correlations between self-esteem, health promotion behaviors and subareas in health department (r=.422) and non-health department (r=.383). Conclusion: There were significant positive correlations between self-esteem and health promotion behaviors in health and non-health department college students. Therefore, health related programs should be developed to enhance self-esteem and health management by college students can influence themselves on self-esteem and health promotion behaviors.

  • This study regarded fashion selection criteria as clothing consumption value and desired fashion images, and examined selection differences according to regional subculture groups. Clothing consumption value is a direct value that people seek with clothing products and a perceived value which is divided into emotional, social, price, quality values. Fashion image which is a feeling communicated to others by wearing a certain fashion style is the most superficial value. Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was performed to test the differences between regional subculture groups in clothing consumption values and desired fashion images. We found some differences in clothing consumption value specifically in emotional value and social value. The group differences were remarkably significant in fashion image comparison. 'Kang-nam' group pursued 'lively', 'sophisticated', 'charming', feminine', 'gorgeous' image more than 'Kang-buk' group. While 'Kang-buk' group produced lower scores in ideal fashion images, the group had significant higher seeking in 'sportive' image compared to 'Kangnam' group.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the gender differences in conversational styles of students. This research based on Quantitative survey and qualitative observation. The quantitative data were collected by questionnaire from 708 respondents who were college students and resided in Sunchon. Statistical methods for the data analysis were frequencies, t-test. The cases of observation were 21. As a result, gender differences were founded in lots of conversational styles. Women showed more tendencies than men In communi-cations to listen, to make relationships, to take care of others, to express intimacy and to make private conversation. Men tended to dominate others, to show off capacities and to make public conversation. This gender differences in conversational styles were related to sex role and major studies. From this results it was proposed that education on gender differences in conversational styles should be developed for students to improve their communication skills and to adapt their changing sex role.

  • Sleep is an essential physiological process, especially for proper brain function through the formation of new pathways and processing information and cognition. Therefore, when sleep is insufficient, this can result in pathophysiologic conditions. Sleep deficiency is a risk factor for various conditions, including dementia, diabetes, and obesity. Recent studies have shown that there are differences in the prevalence of sleep disorders between genders. Insomnia, the most common type of sleep disorder, has been reported to have a higher incidence in females than in males. However, sex/gender differences in other sleep disorder subtypes are not thoroughly understood. Currently, increasing evidence suggests that gender issues should be considered important when prescribing medicine. Therefore, an investigation of the gender-dependent differences in sleep disorders is required. In this review, we first describe sex/gender differences not only in the prevalence of sleep disorders by category but in the efficacy of sleep medications. In addition, we summarize sex/gender differences in the impact of sleep disorders on incident dementia. This may help understand gender-dependent pathogenesis of sleep disorders and develop therapeutic strategies in men and women.

  • This was a follow-up study to the 'Study on the Body Types of Chinese Adult Women I,' which looked into the body types and classified them into representative body type groups, with the subjects of the women residing in Beijing and Shanghai, and it intends to compare the features of the body types by the residential area of each age range. The results were as follows: 1. The measurements physical items of the women residing in Beijing and Shanghai were compared by the age range, and differences were found in all age ranges. In particular, as the age ranges got higher, the differences in the physical measurements were significant. 2. The comparison of the factor score for the women residing in Beijing and Shanghai by the age range indicated the differences in all the age ranges, and the differences were larger as the age got higher. 3. The comparison of the type distribution for the women residing in Beijing and Shanghai by the age range indicated the differences in their 30's and 40's, while any differences in the type distribution were not found in their 20's.

Both of two regions reminded V of hard image, boat of feminine image, square of hard image, halter of complex image. But within the same sensibility image there was a bit of differences between two regions. Oval was significant differences between two regions. Subject of Ulsan reminded oval of mature image, yet those of Seoul reminded oval of elegance image. It was reminded ruffle of complex image. Subject of Ulsan reminded china of hard image, yet those of Seoul reminded china of calm image. In material, it was not significant differences between two regions, but within the same sensibility image there was a bit of differences between two regions. In detail, subject of Ulsan reminded ruffle of messy image, yet those of Seoul reminded ruffle of complex image. Both of two areas reminded ribbon of pure image, button of pure image. Subject of Ulsan reminded beads of feminine image, yet those of Seoul reminded beads of pure image. • The purpose of this study was to compare the flexibility and isokinetic differences between normal dancers and dancers with chronically sprained ankle. For the experiment Eversion/Inversion testing was performed by a Cybex 770 isokinetic dynamometer at the a speeds of 30$^{\circ}$ /sec and 120$^{\circ}$ /sec on each 7 subject group. The results were; 1) No differences were found between the two groups in ROM of ankle, but ROM of eversion has 2.8$^{\circ}$ higher in the injury group than the normal group. 2) Differences were found between the two groups in peak torque. average power, total work at the evertor and invertor in injury side.(30$^{\circ}$ /sec) 3) Differences were found between the two groups in peak torque at the evertor and invertor in normal side.(30$^{\circ}$ /sec) 4) Differences were found between the two groups in total work at the evertor in normal side. (30$^{\circ}$ /sec) 5) Differences were found between the two groups in peak torque, total work at the evertor and invertor in injury side. (120$^{\circ}$ /sec)

  • Relations of urban heat island and air pollution are analyzed by using $SO_2$ concentration data (winter season in 1985) from 10 sites of Seoul area and differences of wind speed and air temperature in urban and rural area. Urban heat island is developed when daily mean wind speed at urban site is lower than 1.5m/sec or in the interval of 3.0 $\sim$ 3.5m/sec. When differences between urban and rural air temperature is greater than the overall average of those differences, $SO_2$ concentrations of those above-average differences are 1.3 $\sim$ 1.8 times higher than those of below-average differences. The trends are shown obviously at north-eastern area of Seoul (Gilum Dong, Ssangmun Dong, Myeonmog Dong). When intensity of Urban Heat Island is weak, $SO_2$ concentration was reduced in propotion to a rise of wind speed. But $SO_2$ concentration is on the partial increase in spite of a rise of wind speed when intensity of urban heat island is strong.
