This study was designed to provide fundamental data on the consumption of fast food for a balanced diet of university students. The effects of personal characteristics and preferences such as gender, major, residing region, living expense, school grade, dieting, physical activity, smoking and alcohol consumption on fast food consumption patterns were analyzed by surveying university students. The analysis showed significant differences (p<0.05) in the consumption of different types of fast food depending on different personal characteristics and preferences as follows : hamburger by major, physical activity and alcohol consumption; chicken by school grade, physical activity and alcohol consumption; spaghetti by gender and smoking. Groups of different majors and school grades showed significant differences (p<0.05) in response to a question "Have you ever eaten fast food for regular meals?". The choice of fast food types based on taste and price appeared to be significantly influenced by majors and gender. Different groups with different majors and dieting experience appeared to think significantly differently about fast food. In response to a question "Has the consumption of fast food changed your diet style" different groups of different majors and physical activities showed significant differences. The analysis of factors affecting fast food choices revealed that fast food is chosen significantly differently depending on gender and majors (p<0.05). The purchase of fast food appeared to be significantly affected by gender, diet, physical activity, experience of fast food and consumption of fast food for regular meals (p<0.05).
The purpose of this study is to explore characteristics of engineering students' everyday creativity compared with those of undergraduate students. For this, we investigated whether there were differences in undergraduates' everyday creativity according to majors, gender and grade. Everyday creativity can be defined as thinking and activities producing useful and suitable personal products, and to solve problems in a new and unique ways. Thus everyday creativity is reported to be universal ability creative people can express in their everyday life. Eight hundred and fifty seven students from three universities in three Korean regions responded to Everyday Creativity Scale. Our findings show that firstly, there were significant differences in undergraduates' everyday creativity by majors and gender. Whereas there were no differences in the same survey by grade. Engineering students obtained significantly lower score of everyday creativity as well as its sub-scales. Also, there were significant differences in everyday creativity's sub-factors by gender. Based on these findings, practical implications for creativity education are discussed with particular attention to learner's individual variables.
This research aims to explore characteristics of engineering students' thinking styles compared with those of undergraduate students in Korea. For this, we investigated whether there were differences of thinking styles in undergraduates according to majors and gender. 'Thinking styles', one individual-difference variable, has received particular attention in recent years. Styles are not abilities but rather refer to individuals' preferred way of applying their abilities in cognitive tasks(Sternberg, 1988). There has been much research(domestic and foreign) about thinking styles and their related factors. However, to date, little attention has been paid to engineering students' thinking styles, and few studies have dealt with them together with undergraduate students' of various majors. This study was conducted with a total of 865 students from 3 universities, and thinking styles have been measured online. Our findings show that firstly, there were significant differences in undergraduate students' thinking styles by majors. Engineering students scored significantly higher in external style, students majoring in humanities scored higher in executive, hierarchical and conservative styles, and students majoring in arts scored higher in legislative, internal and liberal styles. Second, there was a significant difference in students' thinking styles by gender. Male students scored significantly higher than females in judicial, global and external styles. Whereas female students scored higher than males in hierarchical and internal styles. Third, there was a significant difference in engineering students' thinking styles by gender. Male engineering students scored significantly higher than females in judicial and monarchic styles. Whereas female engineering students scored significantly higher in hierarchical styles. Based on these findings, it is expected to apply thinking styles to develop related courses as well as programs for engineering students.
The objectives of this research were to identify the differences of image evaluations by perceiver's gender, majors and jeans' finishing and to examine image characteristics that have an influence on attractiveness and preferences of jeans' finishing. The subjects are 96 undergraduate students in Los Angeles of the USA. Elegant and refined images had a significant effort on perceiver's gender, so men tended to highly evaluate jeans as elegant and refined images than did women. Soft images were recognized differently by perceiver's major, so non-specialists in design tended to highly evaluate jeans as soft images than did specialists in design. In finishing, shattered wash was evaluated as the most individual, attractive, energetic, and splendid images, and stone wash was evaluated as the most ordinary, unattractive, and plain images. Light images tended to have interaction effects by majors and finishing. Specialists in design did not perceive differences between light images from finishing well, but non-specialists in design perceived that stone wash finishing's image is lighter than indigo blue finishing's image. Sociable images had interaction effects by perceiver's gender, majors and jeans' finishing, and especially non-specialists in men estimated that shattered wash has the lowest sociable images in finishing. According to evaluations about finishing images of ladies' jeans, men tended to be attracted by splendid images, and women tended to be attracted by sexy images. In addition, both men and women were commonly attracted by feminine images, so the study found that feminine images is important image for developing jeans for ladies. According to evaluations about finishing images of ladies' jeans, men preferred sexy and natural images to comfortable and energetic images, and women preferred sexy and neat images. Female undergraduate students of the USA tended to be attracted by sexy images, and we found that actually they consider buying jeans with such images.
In addition to technical skills and competencies, communication competence has been identified to be important to engineering students who will be drivers of innovation in a rapidly changing society. Drawing on the previous studies, this research examines the results of an empirical exploration of engineering students' perception of speaking ability and their communicative competence. To date, there has been most of the research conducted on 'writing' (e.g., its educational process, class designs, ability, etc.) for engineering students. However, relatively little attention has been paid to engineering students' speaking ability perception and their competence diagnosis. This study relies on quantitative data obtained from one survey questionnaire and one test conducted respectively. The sample consists of 386 engineering students as well as 481 non-engineering students for the 1st survey. And to measure communicative competence, 150 engineering students as well as 136 non-engineering students participated in the test. Our findings show that firstly, there were significant differences in perception of speaking ability by majors and gender. Whereas there was no difference in the same survey by grade. Secondly, there was a close and significant relationship between sub-factors of speaking ability. Thirdly, there were significant differences in communicative competence by majors. Whereas there was no difference by gender and grade. Fourthly, there was a close and significant relationship between sub-factors of communicative competence. These findings are expected to provide an explanation for the improvement on engineering students' speaking ability and to encourage the participation in extra-curricular activities and programs in engineering school.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the most effective emoticon type in on-line communication context through analysis decoding(by their interpretation, empathy, reaction) of receiver about emotional message included the various emoticon types. Message types were all 5 - only text message and messages included texticon, graphicon, anicon, and photocon that reflected the transitional process of emoticon. Survey questionnaire that included various emotional situations was developed and utilized to undergraduate students to analyze the differences in their gender and majors. Results are as follow. First, the graphicon, anicon and photocon messages had higher effectiveness than others in the pleasure while the text only message had the highest effectiveness of them in the displeasure. Second, female students responded that the graphicon, anicon and photocon messages were more effective while male students responded that text only message was. Third, between Arts/Physical and Science/Engineering majors had significant differences in some message types, and especially Science/Engineering majors showed higher average than other majors in all of the emoticon types. These results can provide the information to design messages by the emotional situation of sender and gender and major of receiver.

This study analyzed the differences depending on gender differences, the years for graduation, college majors, and grades by the level of students' learning process about the student engagement of college students. Subjects were 684 students who responded to a student engagement survey questionnaire among the students attending the regular curriculum at the K-college located in Geoje-si. For measurement, the college students' learning process analysis scale was modified and supplemented prior to use. Frequency analysis was adopted to search individual backgrounds of college students. One-way ANOVA and Post-hoc test were conducted in order to find differences according to gender differences, the years for graduation, college majors, and grades by the level of learning process. The study results are as follows. First, the college students' learning process on gender had significant differences in involvement in and out of instruction, teaching-learning outcomes, and college facility system and service. Second, the college students' learning process according to the years for graduation had significant differences in involvement in and out of instruction, class satisfaction, and college facility system and service. Third, the college students' learning process according to major differences had significant differences in involvement in and out of instruction, study interactions, academic achievement, and college facility system and service. Fourth, the college students' learning process according to grades had significant differences in total sub-components (involvement in and out of instruction, class satisfaction, study interactions, academic achievement, and college facility system and service). Lastly, the study discussions and implications are described.

The purpose of this study was to confirm the relationship between positive psychological capital, professor support, and the career preparation behavior of college students, and to identify the factors influencing the career preparation behavior. The convenience sampling method was used on 180 students from August 30 to October 30, 2020, Data was collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff test, Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, and multiple regression. The research results showed that there were significant differences in positive psychological capital and professor support according to gender, majors, and economic levels. There were significant differences in career preparation behavior according to gender (t=3.52, p<.001), major (F=10.85, p<.001), and career decision (t=4.98, p<.001). There were significant differences in career preparation behavior according to gender, majors, and career decisions. Positive psychological capital (r=.45, p<.001) and professor support (r=.40, p<.001) showed a positive correlation with career preparation behavior. Factors influencing career preparation behavior were majors, career decisions, positive psychological capital, and the explanatory power of these factors was 32.5%. Therefore, effective career and counseling guidance should be planned to increase positive psychological capital according to the major. It is necessary to provide opportunities for exploration of various career options to enable students to select suitable careers or jobs and to set goals, and provide an environment with positive motivation.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify variables related to smoking behaviors (never smoked, former smoker, current smoker) among college students on the basis of the PRECEDE model. Method: Data were collected from 327 college students in Chungbuk Province from May to June 2006 using a self-reported questionnaire. Result: The rate of current smokers was 19.0%. The rate of current smokers in male students (41.1%) was significantly higher than that of female students(8.3%). Also, there were significant differences by general characteristics such as major, academic achievements, satisfaction with major and alcohol consumption. Number of smokers among five close friends was 1.72 and it showed significant differences among different gender, majors, levels of satisfaction with majors and alcohol consumption. In discriminant analysis, discriminant variables on smoking behavior were the number of smokers among close friends, the referent persons' responses about smoking and subject's belief about smoking. Conclusion: These research findings suggest that we can enhance the prevention of college students' smoking by strengthening the related factors such as enforcing a non-smoking environment and strengthening college health education strategies of non-smoking including a negative belief of smoking and the hazard of passive smoking.
This research aims to analyze core competencies of engineering students in Korea as well as to explore the application plans of extracurricular activities(hereafter, ECA) and programs in order to enhance their core competencies. Participation in ECA has long been recognized as having positive benefits and impacts upon students. To achieve the purpose of this study, first, we investigated whether there were differences between core competencies in undergraduates according to majors, gender and grades. 'Core competencies', first introduced in management theory as 'core competency' can be defined as personal attributes or underlining characteristics, capable of delivering a role or job. 'Core competencies' has received particular attention in recent years and there has been much related research (domestic and foreign) combined with diverse factors. However, few studies have addressed the question on engineering student's core competencies as well as the ways of their enhancement. This study was conducted with a total of 286 students, and core competencies have been measured online, through K-CESA. Our findings show that firstly, there were significant differences in undergraduate students' core competencies by majors. Engineering students scored significantly lower in core competencies overall. Second, there was no significant difference in students' core competencies by gender and grade. Third, there was a significant correlation among components of core competencies. Finally, there was a significant correlation between core competencies and grades(GPA, grades in major subject & liberal arts subject), rather levels in the correlation were low. Furthermore, the study suggested that the appropriate application of extracurricular activities would enhance core competencies of students.
