  • This study was carried out to know the proper pearling ratio for maximum utilizatio of barley diet fiber, especially bata-glucan. Beta-glucan content were 2.35%, 2.72% and 3.24% in pearling ratio of 75%, 70% and 65%, respectively, which means the lower of pearling ratio, the more chance for use of beta-glucan. The embryo was completely removed from barley grain in 65% pearling but it was partially removed or not removed in pearling ratio of 70% and 75%, respectively. Total diet fiber content was higher at 75% pearling ratio while beta-glucan content was the lowest. The higher level of total diet fiber in lower pearling ratio was due to relatively higher content of insoluble diet fiber. The difference of soluble fiber due to pearling ratio was negligible diet fiber. The difference of soluble fiber due to pearling ratio was negligible, however, bata-glucan content was higher in higher pearling ratio. The results implied that it is better way to lowering perling ratio for miximum use of bata-glucan in barley.

  • This study was undertaken to obtain the data for age determination following the calcification degree of the third molar in the point of forensic odontology. The orthopantomograms of 1399 male and 2517 female ranging from 7 to 22 years of age were studied. The developmental state of the third molar was divided into 12 stages following the calcification degree and the mean ages of stage was obtained and statistically analyzed. The results were as follows : 1. There was remarkable correlation between the development of the third molar and age. 2. There was no significant developmental difference between the right and left third molar. 3. The development of the third molar presents difference between the male and female in the crown formation stages, but it was retarded in female than male in the root formation stages. 4. At the age under 20 years, we can determine the age within the range of * 2 years by means of orthopantomogram.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance difference between public and private hospitals. It is believed that private hospitals may have a better performance compared to public hospitals. The study support the hypothesis. By analyzing 425 acute-care hospitals in Korea, this research shows a less performance of public hospitals compared to private hospitals. Higher labor and administrative cost by public hospitals may account for the difference, and it means they are not effective at cost control. Managers in public hospitals, therefore, should pay attention on cost-reducing issues to regain managerial efficiency of organizations.

  • Purpose: The objective of this paper was to analyze the requirements of the end-users by class after carrying out a survey on the user requirements for sleeping bags and utilize the result for effective product development. Methods: The test for difference in means by class was conducted through one sample analysis and one-way ANOVA after the survey result has gone through a reliability verification, and an LSD (Least Significant Difference) test was conducted as a post-mortem method. Results: A significant result was derived from the survey on the user requirements for sleeping bags by method of use, use of combination of sleeping bag components or a sleeping bag alone. Conclusion: The significant result derived from the survey of this paper on the user requirements for sleeping bags can be utilized for effective development of sleeping bags.

  • In this paper, we present an analysis of dynamic characteristics of an electromagnetic actuator for circuit breakers. It is indispensable to simultaneously analyze magnetic, electric, and mechanical phenomena to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the electromagnetic actuator because these phenomena are closely related to each other in an electromagnetic actuator system. The magnetic equations are computed by using the finite element method (FEM). The electric equations and the mechanical equations, which include the time derivative terms, are calculated by using the time difference method (TDM). The calculated results, which have been obtained by means of the FEM and the TDM, are presented with experimental data.

  • Without an accurate understanding of information needs of library users, an efficient services can't be implement. And we can expect that there is a difference between query statement and actual information needs of users. It also will occur difference in the process of librarian's interpretation of query statement because of an inaccurate presentation and their different working experiences. It means that there is a communication problems between users and librarians. The purpose of this study is to provide the techniques of face to face communication between users and librarians as a method of efficient library service activities. And focused on the importance of non-language communication. The effectiveness of this study are as follows: 1. With the understanding of information flow, librarians can expand the extent of library services. 2. Knowing that how to communicate with users at the a n.0, ppropriate degree, librarians can improve the communication techniques. 3. Expanding the satisfaction of information services and heitening the reliability of users. 4. From the analysis of user information needs, librarians can convert present system to the proper service-oriented system. 5. Knowing the importance of non-language communication, librarians can improve the service environment.

  • A kinetic theory analysis is used to study the ultra-thin gas flow field in gas slider hearings. The Boltzmann equation simplified by a collision model is solved by means of a finite difference approximation with the discrete ordinate method. Calculations are made for the flow field inside stepped and straight slider bearings. The results are compared well with those from the DSMC method. Special attention has been paid to the effect of the pressure build-up in front of a hearing, which has never been assessed before. It has been shown that the pressure build-up at the inlet is about $4.5\%$ of the operating pressure and the resulting load capacity is about $25\%$ higher for the case considered in the present study.

  • A kinetic theory analysis is made of low-speed gas flows in a microfluidic system consisted of three microchannels in series. The Boitzmann equation simplified by a collision model is solved by means of a finite difference approximation with the discrete ordinate method. For the evaluation of the present method results are compared with those from the DSMC method and an analytical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions. Calculations are made for flows at various Knudsen numbers and pressure ratios across the channel. The results compared well with those from the DSMC method. It is shown that the analytical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions which is suited fur fully developed flows can give relatively good results. In predicting the geometrically complex flows up to a Knudsen number of about 0.06. It is also shown that the present method can be used to analyze extremely low-speed flow fields for which the DSMC method is Impractical.

  • This research was carried out to find the mordant effects by Tara and Myrobalan as natural tannins on the cow leather dyed with Lac powder. The cow leathers were treated with Tara, Myrobalan, Al, Cu, and Fe mordants by changing treatment orders. It was examined for K/S value, surface color changes, and color difference. The K/S value generally has higher Myrobalan than Tara, and pre-mordant than post-mordanted condition. Cu is the strongest among the three mordants. As a results of the treatment order, the K/S value is higer in pre-tannin-mordant agent than in pre-mordant agent-tannin. In the post mordant, K/S value is higher in mordant agent-tannin than in tannin-mordant agent. The color difference and color factors such as H, V and C were various according to the mordant agents, treatment orders and mordant methods; and surface colors of dyed cow leathers were R and RP. It was difficult to find some significant means of mordant orders.

  • In order to study the relationship between body core temperature and adiposity , the core temperatures of normal weight female college students were measured during an instant-noodle lunch eaten in a laboratory at the ambient temperature of 22-24.8$^{\circ}C$. Ambient temperature was positively correlated with meal-start core temperature and meal duration. The difference between the peak postprandial and the meal-start core temperature was negatively correlated with body weight and BMI. This means that the thermogenic response induced by meal consumption was negatively associated with adiposity. Meal duration also showed a negative correlation with body weight, BMI, and hip girth. Thus, the obese eating style characterized by a rapid rate of food intake was also associated with adiposity in normal weight women. It was possibly a contributing factor in the development of obesity. In conclusion, adiposity is negatively associated with the difference between the peak postprandial and the meal-start core temperature and meal duration during a meal.
