DLC 박막을 통한 전자광학추적장비 신뢰성 개선 (Reliability Improvement of the Electro Optical Tracking System by using DLC Films)

  • 함정용 전자광학추적장비 열영상센서부 전면창의 신뢰성 및 성능 개선을 위해 플라즈마 화학기상증착법을 통해 제작되는 DLC 박막을 제안하였다. DLC 박막은 현재 사용되고 있는 실리콘 박막과 비교하여 뛰어난 강도와 낮은 마찰, 화학적 안정성이 우수하며 이로 인해 해상 환경에서 필연적으로 발생하는 열영상센서 전면창의 표면 박리를 최소화할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 본 실험을 통해, DLC 박막이 갖는 물리적 특성을 바탕으로 다양한 전자광학장비에 적용이 가능함을 확인하였다.

  • Friction and wear affect all processes involved in the extraction of materials and their conversion into finished products in the die applications such as drawing, extrusion etc. Originating phenomenon from the contact surface between the tool and workpiece, they are usually a hindrance to materials process operations which usually result in damaging the tools, increasing energy consumption, the contamination of processed material by wear particles and also some problems associated with technologies to control friction and wear. The most well established method to control friction and wear is by the application of lubricant such as fluorocarbon. Besides, a surface technique so-called surface modification can be applied to solve the tribology problems of the die applications for both the economical and ecological reasons. In this article, we applied DLC(diamond-like carbon) thin film on alumina ceramic for HT test using the PIID(plasma ion immersion deposition), 4 groups of test specimens were tested up to $200^{\circ}C$ which is a little higher than the normal working temperature of die application. Pin-on-disc tribo-tester was used to test the friction and surfaces were characterized by SEM and EDS and else, the morphology changes of DLC coatings were studied. The present work indicated that the DLC had a great potential to reduce the friction and wear in the alumina die application without lubricants.

사이클로헥산을 이용한 다이아몬드 박막제작 연구 (A Study on the Fabrication of Diamond Thin-Film from Cyclo-Hexane Using MW Plasma Process)

  • 본 논문은 마이크로웨이브 플라즈마 프로세스에 의하여 사이클로헥산을 이용한 다이아몬드 박막 제작에 관한 산소유량 변화 및 파라메타 변화에 따른 분광분석 결과에 대하여 논하였다. 인가전력을 증가시킴에 따라서 수소원자의 $H_{\alpha}$$H_{\beta}$의 발광강도는 증가되는 반면에 CH(B-X) 발광강도는 일정하였으며, 헥산 유량을 증가시킴에 따라 CH(B-X) 라디칼의 발광강도가 증가되고, 산소유량을 증가시킴에 따라 CH(B-X) 라디칼이 산소원자와의 결합에 의해 밀도가 감소하여 발광강도가 감소되었다. 그리고, 산소가 공급되지 않은 경우에는 비정질 또는 DLC 성분이 많이 함유된 결정성이 거의 없는 다이아몬드 박막이 성장되었으며, 산소유량을 증가시킴에 따라서 결정 표면에 잔존하는 미결합 탄소성분들이 제거되면서 결정성이 향상됨을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통하여 유기용매인 사이클로헥산을 이용하여 다이아몬드 박막이 성장됨을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • Zirconia is well known in industrial applications for its mechanical characteristics. DLC (diamond-like carbon) have high elastic modulus, high electric resistivity, high dielectric constant, high wear resistance, low friction coefficient, bio compatibility, chemically inert and thermally stable. Because of all these physical and chemical properties these types of coatings have become key procedure for thin coating. Friction coefficient of DLC films is already evaluated and the current work is a further advancement by calculating the fracture toughness and wear resistance of these coatings. In the present study DLC thin film coatings are developed on $ZrO_2$ alloy surface using Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) method. Vicker hardness test is employed and it was concluded that, DLC coatings increase the Vickers hardness of ceramics.

수소화된 비정질 탄소박막(a-C:H)에 의한 안경렌즈 코팅 (Ophthalmic Lens Coating by a-C:H Film)

  • 마이크로웨이브 플라즈마 화학증착법을 이용하여 C-H계에서 메탄 농도를 변화시키면서 각각의 농도 변화에 따른 증착상의 변화 거동을 관찰하였는데 메탄 농도가 증가함에 따라 성장 속도는 증가하지만 다이아몬드 박막내 비다이아몬드 성분의 양이 많아지며 결정성이 떨어졌다. Raman 분광으로부터 D 피크($sp^3$)와 G 피크($sp^2$)의 상대적인 세기로부터 $sp^3/sp^2$, 수소함량에 대한 경향성을 알 수가 있었으며 FTIR 분광으로부터 수소함량은 16~37%, $sp/sp^2$은 0.22~1.14로 변화하였다. 이들 결과로부터 최적의 제작조건은 메탄 분압비 13.8%임을 알 수가 있었다.

  • The response surface modeling of the pretilt angle control using ion-beam (IB) alignment on nitrogen doped diamond-like carbon (NDLC) thin film layer is investigated. The response surface model is used to analyze the variation of the pretilt angle under various process conditions IB exposure angle and IB exposure time are considered as Input factors. The analysis of variance technique is used to analyze the statistical significance, and effect plots are also investigated to examine the relationships betweenthe process parameters and the response. The model can allow us to reliably predict the pretilt angle with respect to the varying process conditions.

Investigation of Physicochemical Properties of Mo Carbide Utilizing Electron Spectroscopy

  • Molybdenum carbide (MoCx) thin films (TFs) were deposited by reactive radio frequency (rf) magnetron co-sputtering in high vacuum chamber. We compared the properties of MoCx thin films as the rf power changed on C target. The result of alpha step measurement showed that the thickness of the MoCx TFs varied from163.3 to 194.86 nm as C power was increased from 160 to 200 W. The crystallinity of MoCx such as b-Mo2C, Mo2C, and diamond like carbon (DLC) structures were observed by XRD. The oxidation states of Mo and C were determined using high resolution XPS spectra of Mo 3d and C 1s were deconvoluted. Molybdenum was consisted of Mo, Mo4+, and Mo6+ species. And C was deconvoluted to C-Mo, C, C-O, and C=O species.

A Novel Large Area Negative Sputter Ion Beam source and Its Application

  • A large area negative metal ion beam source is developed. Kinetic ion beam of the incident metal ions yields a whole nucleation and growth phenomena compared to the conventional thin film deposition processes. At the initial deposition step one can engineer the surface and interface by tuning the energy of the incident metal ion beams. Smoothness and shallow implantation can be tailored according to the desired application process. Surface chemistry and nucleation process is also controlled by the energy of the direct metal ion beams. Each individual metal ion beams with specific energy undergoes super-thermodynamic reactions and nucleation. degree of formation of tetrahedral Sp3 carbon films and beta-carbon nitride directly depends on the energy of the ion beams. Grain size and formation of polycrystalline Si, at temperatures lower than 500deg. C is obtained and controlled by the energy of the incident Si-ion beams. The large area metal ion source combines the advantages of those magnetron sputter and SKIONs prior cesium activated metal ion source. The ion beam source produces uniform amorphous diamond films over 6 diameter. The films are now investigated for applications such as field emission display emitter materials, protective coatings for computer hard disk and head, and other protective optical coatings. The performance of the ion beam source and recent applications will be presented.

Terabit-per-square-inch Phase-change Recording on Ge-Sb-Te Media with Protective Overcoatings

  • We reported here nano-scale electrical phase-change recording in amorphous $Ge_2Sb_2Te_5$ media using an atomic force microscope (AFM) having conducting probes. In recording process, a pulse voltage is applied to the conductive probe that touches the media surface to change locally the electrical resistivity of a film. However, in contact operation, tip/media wear and contamination could major obstacles, which degraded SNR, reproducibility, and lifetime. In order to overcome tip/media wear and contamination in contact mode operation, we adopted the W incorporated diamond-like carbon (W-DLC) films as a protective layer. Optimized mutilayer media were prepared by a hybrid deposition system of PECVD and RF magnetron sputtering. When suitable electrical pulses were applied to media through the conducting probe, it was observed that data bits as small as 25 nm in diameter have been written and read with good reproducibility, which corresponds to a data density of $1 Tbit/inch^2$. We concluded that stable electrical phase-change recording was possible mainly due to W-DLC layer, which played a role not only capping layer but also resistive layer.

  • Diamond-like carbon(DLC) thin films are produced by using a filtered cathodic vacuum arc(FCVA) deposition system. Different magnetic components, namely steering, focusing, and filtering plasma-optic systems, are used to achieve a stable arc plasma and to prevent the macroparticles from incorporating into the deposited films. Effects of magnetic fields on plasma behavior and film deposition are examined. The carbon ion energy is found to be varied by applying a negative (accelerating) substrate bias voltage. The deposition rate of DLC films is dependent upon magnetic field as well as substrate bias voltage and at a nominal deposition condition is about $2{\AA}/s$. The structural properties of DLC films, such as internal stress, relative fraction of tetrahedral($sp^3$) bonds, and surface roughness have also been characterized as a function of substrate bias voltages and partial gas($N_2$) pressures.
