Development of an Analysis and Design System of Exhaust Mufflers (배기소음기의 음향해석 및 설계시스템 개발)

  • A PC-based analysis and design system of exhaust muffler is described. It makes use of software packages such as Sysnoise and STAR-CD to calculate transmission loss(TL) and back pressure. The system is applied to redesign a main muffler of passenger car to improve its performance. The effects of design parameters on acoustic and pressure loss characteristics are examined. Taguchi method Is used to determine optimal combination of parameters which affects muffler performances such as TL and back pressure. Three models are chosen and compared in laboratory bench test and engine dynamometer test to prove their performances.

  • Recently, the development of mobile devices demands information storage systems to use micro drive devices. 1-inch micro drive hard disk uses the load/unload(L/UL) technology to increase area recording density and reduce power consumption. Because micro drive has light actuator, effects of the flexible cable that is ignored in 3.5-inch hard disk drive is important to load/unload performances. In this paper, effects of flexible cable on load/unload performances are studied.

  • The consulting industry had enjoyed growth rates over the past 20 years which show no signs of slowing in their momentum. Since 1995, it began to discuss institutionalization of consulting in the agricultural sector in Korea. Rural Development Adminstration has launched farm management consulting project by means of benchmarking for farming innovation in 1988, which consists of establishing consulting team, developing standard diagnosis form of sixty crops and materials, training consultants, having various public relations, and making information systems. Until October, 2001, sixty seven thousands of farmers have benefited on this project. It is now appreciated as a alternative for new agricultural extension approach. Analyzing the changes of farm management practice level through consulting shows improvement, which data have been stored in web database. It is expected that farm management consulting project be main stream of agricultural extension in this country.

  • A development of a software on radar target signature analysis is presented in this paper The target signature includes Radar Cross Section(RCS) prediction, Range Profile(RP) processing and Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar(ISAR) processing. Physical Optics(PO) is the basic calculation method for RCS prediction and Geometrical Optics(GO) is used for ray tracing in the field calculation of multiple reflection. For RP and ISAR, Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) and Matrix Pencil(MP) method were implemented for post-processing. Those results are integrated into two separate softwares named as Radar Target Signature Generator(RTSG) and Radar Target Signature Analyser(RTSA). Several test results show good performances in radar signature prediction and analysis.

The Effects of External Collaborations on the Innovation Performance of Korean Venture Businesses (벤처기업의 외부협력이 혁신성과에 미치는 영향)

  • The paper analyzes the effects of Korean venture businesses' external collaborations on their innovation performances, according to their collaboration partners and collaboration activities. The results show that the collaborations between Korean venture businesses and research institutions, and those between venture businesses and other venture businesses have significant positive effects on venture businesses' innovation performances, in terms of the numbers of the intellectual property rights, while the collaborations between venture businesses and large companies have significant positive effects on medium-sized venture businesses only. In addition, collaborative research and development, and technology transfer from big companies to venture businesses have given significant positive effects on venture businesses' innovation performances, while collaborative employee training and collaborative marketing have given significant negative effects on venture businesses' innovation performances. Furthermore, collaborations between large companies and their subcontracting venture businesses have shown even more significant effects on venture businesses' performances. The results show that the effectiveness of external collaborations of Korean venture businesses depends on collaboration partners, types of collaboration activities, and the size of collaborating venture businesses, implying that government programs for encouraging venture businesses to collaborate with external institutions should be carefully chosen for their innovation performance improvement.

Characteristics of Ceramic Separator Impregnated by Molten Salt for Thermal Batteries (열전지용 세라믹 분리막의 용융염 전해질 함침 특성)

  • Thermal batteries are primary power sources for military applications requiring high reliability, robustness and long storage life. Conventional electrodes for thermal batteries are prepared by compacting powder mixtures into pellets. Separator is composed of halide mixture, such as LiCl-KCl eutectic salt, blended with MgO to immobilize the molten salt. In order to increase the power density and energy density, the resistance of electrolyte should be reduced because the resistance of electrolyte is predominant in thermal batteries. In this study, wetting behaviors and impregnation weight of molten salts as well as the micro structures of ceramic felt were investigated to be applicable to thin electrolyte. Discharge performances of single cell with the ceramic separator impregnated by molten salt were evaluated also. Zirconia felt with high porosity and large pore outperformed alumina felt in wetting characteristics and molten salt impregnation as well as discharge performances. Based on the results of this study, ceramic felt separator impregnated with molten salt have revealed as an alternative of conventional thick MgO based separator with no conspicuous sign of thermal runaway by short circuit.

  • This paper presents a high performance AC propulsion system for electric car to improve traction capability. The presented VVVF inverter was composed of as GTO thyristor and the the controller was fully digitalized by using 32bit DSP. The improved PWM algorithms and the new adhesion control were adapted to improve traction characteristics. This system could be possible the higher reliability and flexibility. The field test results showed the higher performances characteristics of the presented system.

  • Korea's economic development started from early 1960s over war devastation. Korean government drove promoting export with its all efforts. In 2011, Korea joined the "USD 1 trillion trade club" as the 9th nation in the world. It is true that the growth of Korean exports has greatly contributed to the development of Korean economy, and that workers in the export promoting organizations also contributed to such a tremendous performance. Still, there are a number of SMEs waiting for more support from the export promoting organizations. This paper tried to identify the determinants of organizational performances of export promoting organization workers with particular focus on their public service motivation and self-esteem. Our findings are as follows; Workers' public service motivation and self-esteem are strongly related to their organizational commitment, job satisfaction, organizational performances. In addition, the workers show a different level of intrinsic and extrinsic satisfaction when it comes to public service and customer satisfaction. This reflects the employees of export promoting organizations have more focused on the value and accomplishment of their performances in workplace. Women and younger workers within the organizations tend to have weaker organizational commitment. In conclusion, we recommend that it is important to increase the women's organizational commitment and develop more inspirational personnel programs to younger workers within the organizations in order to support Korea's promising SMEs in a more practical manner.

  • Social distancing caused a sharp industrial stagnation in the performance industry. Due to the continuous industrial downturn, as well as the livelihoods of many related workers, the outlook for the performance industry has reached a point where it is impossible to foresee the future. As a result of seeking various ways to recover from the continuing industrial stagnation, online concerts drew attention as the most effective alternative. Its development potential was highly evaluated as it could provide a performance culture to consumers while complying with social distancing. This study has value in terms of academic contribution as it slightly suggests a direction for the sustainable development of online performances presented as a breakthrough amid the social and industrial stagnation caused by the pandemic. therefore, this thesis describes the changes in the performance industry due to social distancing, and collects and analyzes examples of online performances by type to illuminate the value of online performances as an industry in the pandemic era and develops them. The possibility was reconsidered and the direction to be taken in the future was suggested. In each type of case, the cases focused on social value did not satisfy the economic value of profit creatiom, and even in the opposite case, if the profit creation was satisfied, the analysis result showed that the social value was not satisfied, and the planning intention of each performance was not satisfied. Accordingly, cases such as satisfying both profit creation and social value were also confirmed. Therefore, the direction for online performances was presented through the improvement of technologies and systems and the commercialization of existing platforms.

An Information System Architecture for Extracting Key Performance Indicators from PDM Databases (PDM 데이터베이스로부터 핵심성과지표를 추출하기 위한 정보 시스템 아키텍쳐)

  • The current manufacturers have generated tremendous amount of digitized product data to efficiently share and exchange it with other stakeholders or various software systems for product development. The digitized product data is a valuable asset for manufacturers, and has a potential to support high level strategic decision makings needed at many stages in product development. However, the lack of studies on extraction of key performance indicators(KPIs) from product data management(PDM) databases has prohibited manufacturers to use the product data to support the decision makings. Therefore this paper examines a possibility of an architecture that supports KPIs for evaluation of product development performances, by applying multidimensional product data model and on-line analytic processing(OLAP) to operational databases of product data management. To validate the architecture, the paper provides a prototype product data management system and OLAP applications that implement the multidimensional product data model and analytic processing.
