  • The study investigates the various Acceptance Control Charts (ACCs) based on the factors that include process independence, data weighting scheme, subgrouping, and use of control charts. USL - LSL > $6{\sigma}$ that used in the good condition processes in the ACCs are designed by considering user's perspective, producer's perspective and both perspectives. ACCs developed from the research is efficiently applied by using the simple control limit unified with APL (Acceptable Process Level), RLP (Rejectable Process Level), Type I Error $\alpha$, and Type II Error $\beta$. Sampling interval of subgroup examines i.i.d. (Identically and Independent Distributed) or auto-correlated processes. Three types of weight schemes according to the reliability of data include Shewhart, Moving Average(MA) and Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) which are considered when designing ACCs. Two types of control charts by the purpose of improvement are also presented. Overall, $\alpha$, $\beta$ and APL for nonconforming proportion and RPL of claim proportion can be designed by practioners who emphasize productivity and claim defense cost.

  • It is a common practice to design basement walls acting as a one-way slab or plate with idealized boundary conditions, resulting in potentially inefficient design. The walls are often supported by buttress columns and side walls in the vertical direction, thereby acting as a two-way slab. In this study, structural behavior of single-story, three-span basement wall subjected to lateral soil pressure was investigated. Three dimensional finite element analyses were conducted to determine the force distribution on the wall. Based on the numerical studies, a regression analysis was carried out to determine the design values of moments in vertical and horizontal directions as well as shear forces on the wall and design charts are developed. The proposed design method with accompanying design charts would enable practicing engineers to estimate member forces on the wall for preliminary design purpose without resorting to finite element analysis. Numerical examples demonstrated the applicability of the proposed method.

  • Control charts are generally used for process control, but the role of traditional control charts have been limited in case of a contaminated process. Traditional $\bar{x}$ control charts have not been activated well for such a problem because of trying to control processes as center line and control limits changed by the contaminated value. This paper is to propose robust $\bar{x}$ control charts which is considering a location parameter in order to respond to contaminated process. In this paper, we consider $\bar{x}_{\alpha}$, that is trimmed rate; typically ten percent rate is used. By comparing with p, ARL value, the responding results are decided. The comparison resultant results of proposed two control charts are shown and are well contrasted.

  • Control charts are important tools of statistical quality control. In 1956, Duncan first proposed the economic design of $\bar{x}-control$ charts to control normal process means and insure that the economic design control chart actually has a lower cost, compared with a Shewhart control chart. An moving average (MA) control chart is more effective than a Shewhart control chart in detecting small process shifts and is considered by some to be simpler to implement than the CUSUM. An economic design of MA control chart has also been proposed in 2005. The weaknesses to only the economic design are poor statistics because it dose not consider type I or type II errors and average time to signal when selecting design parameters for control chart. This paper provides a construction of an economic-statistical model to determine the optimal parameters of an MA control chart to improve economic design. A numerical example is employed to demonstrate the model's working and its sensitivity analysis is also provided.

  • This paper considers a procedure for the economic design of a cumulative score(CUSCORE) control chart and more sensitive than X-type control chart for small shift to control the mean of a process with a exponentially distributed quality characteristic. An expected loss - cost model as a function of design variables(sample size, sampling interval, scoring limit and decision limit) is derived. Direct search techniques are used to optimize the model subject to ARL in control. Numerical examples and sensitivity analysis of the model are presented. For selected values of situation parameters a comparison study with CUSUM charts is given. CUSCORE control charts compare favourably with CUSUM charts in cost for speedy production process. The proposed control chart can be directly applied for controlling the lifetime characteristics.

  • Calculating the seismic displacement of retaining walls has an important role in the optimum design of these structures. Also, studying the effect of surcharge is important for the calculation of active pressure as well as permanent displacements of the wall. In this regard, some researchers have investigated active pressure; but, unfortunately, there are few investigations on the seismic displacement of retaining walls with surcharge. In this research, using limit analysis and upper bound theorem, permanent seismic displacement of retaining walls with surcharge was analyzed for sliding and overturning failure mechanisms. Thus, a new formulation was presented for calculating yield acceleration, critical angle of failure wedge, and permanent displacement of retaining walls with surcharge. Also, effects of surcharge, its location and other factors such as height of the wall and internal friction angle of soil on the amount of seismic displacements were investigated. Finally, designing charts were presented for calculating yield acceleration coefficient and angle of failure wedge.

  • This article investigates economic-statistical design of VSSI(variable sampling size and interval) cause-selecting charts considering two assignable causes. We consider a process which is composed of two dependent sub-processes. In each sub-process, two kinds of assignable cause may exist. We propose a procedure for designing VSSI cause-selecting charts, based on Lorenzen and Vance model. Computational experiments show that the VSSI cause-selecting chart is superior to the FSSI cause-selecting chart in the economic-statistical characteristics, even under two assignable causes.

  • This article presents a theoretical parametric analysis on the ultimate torsional behaviour of axially restrained reinforced concrete (RC) beams. This analysis is performed by using a computing procedure based on a modification of the Variable Angle Truss Model. This computing procedure was previously developed to account for the influence of the longitudinal compressive stress state due to the axial restraint conditions provided by the connections of the beams to other structural members. The presented parametric study aims to check the influence of some important variable studies, namely: torsional reinforcement ratio, compressive concrete strength and axial restraint level. From the results of this parametric study, nonlinear regression analyses are performed and some design charts are proposed. Such charts allow to correct the resistance torque of RC beams (rectangular sections with small height to width ratios) to account for the favorable influence of the axial restraint.

  • Traditional design methods of bearing capacity of shallow foundations are deterministic in the sense that they do not explicitly consider the inherent uncertainty associated with the factors affecting bearing capacity. To account for such uncertainty, available deterministic methods rather employ a fixed global factor of safety that may lead to inappropriate bearing capacity predictions. An alternative stochastic approach is essential to provide a more rational estimation of bearing capacity. In this paper, the likely distribution of predicted bearing capacity of strip footings subjected to vertical loads is obtained using a stochastic approach based on the Monte Carlo simulation. The approach accounts for the uncertainty associated with the soil shear strength parameters: cohesion, c, and friction angle, ${\phi}$, and the cross correlation between c and ${\phi}$. A set of stochastic design charts that assure target reliability levels of 90% and 95%, are developed for routine use by practitioners. The charts negate the need for a factor of safety and provide a more reliable indication of what the actual bearing capacity might be.

  • In balanced design of experiment sample size is determined to detect a certain standardized size of effect with power 1-$\beta$ at the level of significance $\alpha$. Tables (Marvin, et al (1970) and Lorenzen and Anderson(1993) and charts (Odeh and Fox(1991)) are available to determine the sample size in balanced design of experiments. To simplify those tables and charts simple MATLAB program is used to find the minimal standardized detectable difference $\delta$ when $\alpha , \beta$ and sample size are given.
