  • A design guide to type-3 PLLs for FMCW radars is provided. To do that, the cross-over frequencies of the open-loop transfer functions were normalized to 1 Hz and closed-loop properties were compared through simulations using Pspice. As a result, several guides to design type-3 PLLs were provided: 1) secure 45 degrees of phase margin, 2) locate two zeroes at an identical frequency, and 3) poles may be added to raise order of the PLL at higher frequencies than the cross-over frequency of the open-loop transfer function about ten times.

  • QPSK 복조기는 위상 오차에 따른 문제점을 극복하기 위해 수신단에서는 반송파의 주파수와 위상을 tracking 하는 Carrier recovery loop부분이 필요하다〔1〕. Carrier recovery loop는 multiplier, arm filter, matched filter, decimator, loop filter, NCO로 구성이 된다〔2〕.

  • This paper presents a controller design method for a robust control problem with multiple constraints using genetic algorithms and LMI design method. A robust $H_{\infty}$ constraint with loop shaping and pole placement is used to address disturbance attenuation with error limits and desired transient specifications, in spite of the plant uncertainties and disturbances. In addition, a loop gain constraint is considered so as not to enlarge the loop gain unnecessarily. The robust $H_{\infty}$ constraint and pole placement constraint can be expressed in terms of two matrix inequalities and the loop gain constraint can be considered as an objective function so that genetic algorithms can be applied. Accordingly, a robust controller can be obtained by integrating genetic algorithms with LMI approach. The proposed controller design method is applied to a track-following system of an optical disk drive and is evaluated through simulation results.

  • In this paper, a wideband loop antenna for UWB applications is studied. The proposed wideband loop antenna consists of a circular loop and circular sectors. Circular sectors with a ultra-wideband characteristic are used to connect the circular loop and the center feed points. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the gap between the circular sectors and the radius of the circular loop on the input reflection coefficient and gain characteristics. The optimized wideband loop antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of $41mm{\times}41mm$. Experimental results show that the antenna has a desired UWB characteristic with a frequency band of 3.1-11.0 GHz for a VSWR < 2.25.

  • In this paper, the delamination and deformed FSS caused by residual stresses in the Loop type FSS embedded composites and the transmission characteristic changes due to deformation of FSS by residual stresses were studied. FSS may have different electromagnetic characteristics depending on the type of element, design variables, and array. Therefore, design variables of square loop FSS embedded composites structures were determined to obtain the transmission characteristic for X-band (8~12 GHz). Then the design variables of other types of loops (triangular loop and circular loop) were determined based on the dimensions of square loop. Thereafter, the residual stresses and transmission characteristics of FSS embedded composite structures with various single and double loop FSS's, and stacking sequence of composite laminates were compared.

  • Crack control of precast members is crucial for durability. However, there is no clear provision to check the crack width of precast joints. This study presents an experimental investigation of loop joint details for use in a precast bridge deck system. High strength concrete of 130 MPa was chosen for durability and closer joint spacing. Static tests were conducted to investigate the cracking and ultimate behavior of test specimens. The experimental results indicate that current design codes provide reasonable estimation of the flexural strength and cracking load of precast elements with loop joint of high strength concrete. However, the crack width control of the loop joints with high strength concrete by the current design practices was not appropriate. Some recommendations to improve crack control of the loop joint were derived.

  • QFT(Quantitative Feedback Theory) is a very practical design technique that emphasizes the use of feedback for achieving the desired system performance tolerances in despite of plant uncertainty and disturbance. The fundamental concept of QFT is a loop shaping procedure that a suitable controller can be found by shaping a nominal loop transfer function. The loop shaping synthesis involves the identification of a structure and the specialization of parameter optimization of a desired system. This paper presents an improved loop shaping approach of QFT with model validation using GA(Genetic Algorithm). The method presented in this paper removes the problems of iterative operation, transformation error, and model validation in the conventional methods without consideration of frequency domain.
