Effect of Authentic Leadership on Organizational Engagement, Job Satisfaction, Creativity, and Job Performance in Franchising Hotels (진정성 리더십이 종업원의 조직열의, 직무만족, 창의성, 그리고 직무성과에 미치는 영향: 프랜차이즈 호텔을 중심으로)

  • Purpose - In hotel business, how to build the relationship between leader and employees is very important, because it affects on the customer satisfaction. Thus, this research examines the effect of authentic leadership on job performance in the context of hotel industry and identifies mediating roles of organizational engagement, job satisfaction, and creativity in the relationship between authentic leadership and job performance. This study suggests the guidelines for how hotel companies should improve employee productivity and build a desirable organizational culture by presenting employee attitudes and behavioral models that explain the relationship between leaders and employees. Research design, data, and methodology - This study examines the structural relationship between authentic leadership, organizational engagement, job satisfaction, creativity, and job performance from the employee's perspective. Authentic leadership divide into four sub-dimensions such as self-awareness, balanced process of informations, internalized moral perspective, and relational transparency. In order to test the purposes of this study, research model and hypotheses were developed. All constructs were measured with multiple items developed and tested in the previous studies. The data were collected from 114 franchise hotel employees and were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and Smart PLS 3.0. program. Result - The results of this study are as follows. First, authentic leadership have significant impacts on organizational engagement and creativity, but does not have impact on job satisfaction directly. Second, organizational engagement have significant impacts on job satisfaction and job performance, but does not have impact on creativity directly. Third, job satisfaction has significant impact on creativity, but does not have impact on job performance. Fourth, creativity has significant impact on job performance. Conclusions - The findings of this study indicate that hotel leaders should properly implement the authentic leadership and consider how to build a corporate culture to improve an organizational and employee productivity through authentic leadership. Due to the nature of the hotel industry, which relies heavily on human resources, hotel companies must manage their employees with authenticity in order to increase organizational engagement, job satisfaction, and creativity that affect hotel and employee productivity. If hotel employees perceive their leader's authentic leadership, they show more organizational engagement that increases creativity and leads to job performance. Finally, hotel employees can propose creative ideas only if they will be satisfied with their jobs. Therefore, the leader should develop non-monetary or monetary reward system for the employees and, make an efforts to foster creativity of the employees.

Achievements in the Creativity Education through Freshmen Engineering Design (대학 신입생 공학설계과목을 통한 창의성 교육의 성과)

  • This study is a part of the research on measuring and developing the creativity of college students, especially of engineering college students. This study was done in the class of imaginative design engineering which was a creativity training program integrated with engineering majors, including idea generation skills, creative problem solving, patent applications, design, manufacturing and marketing. Participants in this program were 75 freshman strudetns in engineering college. The achievements in this program were measured by the figural form of TTCT(Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking), as well as MBTI(Myers-Briggs Type Indicator). The results are as follows. First, TTCT scores of the participants in imaginetive design engineering increased significantly. Second, type indicator scores of MBTI varied significantly, to the directions of extrovert, feeling, and perception. Therefore, according to the results of this study, we can conclude the imaginative design engineering class had significant positive effects on the creativity of the engineering students.

An AI-based Clothing Design Process Applied to an Industry-university Fashion Design Class

  • This research aims to develop based clothing design process tailored to the industry-university collaborative setting and apply it in a fashion design class. into three distinct phases: designing and organizing our fashion design class, conducting our class at a university, and gathering student feedback. First, we conducted a literature review on employing new technologies in traditional clothing design processes. We consulted with industry professionals from the Samsung C&T Fashion Group to develop an AI-based clothing design process. We then developed in-class learning activities that leveraged fashion brand product databases, a supervised learning AI model, and operating an AI-based Creativity Support Tool (CST). Next, we setup an industry-university fashion design class at a university in South Korea. Finally, we obtained feedback from undergraduate students who participated in the class. The survey results showed a satisfaction level of 4.7 out of 5. The evaluations confirmed that the instructional methods, communication, faculty, and student interactions within the class were both adequate and appropriate. These research findings highlighted that our AI-based clothing design process applied within the fashion design class led to valuable data-driven convergent thinking and technical experience beyond that of traditional clothing design processes.

Effects of design education program for young Children using 3D printer on creativity improvement (3D 프린터 활용 유아디자인교육 프로그램이 유아의 창의성 및 유용성 증진에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effect on the creativity and Usability of young Children by applying design education pro young Children gramfor using 3D printer to the kindergarten field and, through the results, to prepare a realistic way to increase the utilization of 3D printer media in infant classrooms. In order to achieve this research purpose, 38 infants aged 5 from G kindergarten located in metropolitan A are divided into each experimental group and comparative group, and from August 2017 to January 2018, data were collected through 15 experiments over a period of about 6 months. As a research tool, in the Korean version of Torrance's Creativity Test, an infant shape test and a usability test scale were used, and the data processing and analysis were conducted through technical statistical methods and covariance analysis. As a result of the study, the program using 3D printer had a statistically significant effect on promoting creativity and Usability of young Children, and in particular, it had a remarkable effect on the elaboration of creativity composition. Based on these results, discussions on the existing Nuri process, which mainly aims to cultivate creative talents, the possibility of connecting 3D printers more widely and the role of teachers were made.

  • The textile designs expressed in contempor-ary fashion are studied in this paper. The dec-orative paintings have been encouraged to be-ing adapted in textile designs for apparel as a motif of the surface design to promote the ar-tistic atmosphere in it. Adopting paintings in textile design through the method of printing is valid to improve the fashion in several reasons as follow : First the printed paintings on the fabrics could be possible to contribute individuality and creativity to the fashion im-proving the quality of textile design and the taste of the consumer as well, Second the limitted types of the clothing construction for preparing the proper space to reveal a paintings is needed on the costume The simple clothing types of loose from the body or fitted to the body are easy to adopt and to recreat the paintings on the apparel. Third the paintings which have been favored in use for the textile design are mostly derived from the abstract arts rather than re-alistic paintings for its decorative traits. Fourth a proposal to adapt the other genre of the art could be encouraged to enrich the field of textile and fashion design. Fifth aquisition of the individuality and the creativity in fashion design to differenciate in international market could be obtained through the adaption of Korean paintings which is ap-preciated with Korean sentiment and mind. This would be one of the essential and advis-able ways for designers to solve the problems which have been consistently pusuing in the area of Korean industrial design to find the Korean design model.
