This study aims to investigate how to apply the theory of constructivism to CADD education. To maximize educational effect in the educational process, evaluation, media, interactions between instructor and learners, existing CADD education has some limitations and needs new methodology. Constructivism can be said to be a learner-oriented theory in that it emphasizes on the process of understanding in each individual. It can contribute in educational practice to elicit each learner's motivation and to develope their creativity. This paper tried to investigate how to apply constructivism to architectural designing and find the most suitable CAAD education methodology related to design studio.
In the knowledge and information society of 21st century, 'Creativity' which is the core of national competitiveness and an important foundation for the development of the country has been emphasized on the importance of it. As a result, the convergence educational programs, as known as STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) became more and more needed to children for cultivating creativity. As a follow-up study on STEAM program combining robotics and design for children developed by Design Promotion Committee of KIID, this study intends to modify and reanalyze the program and to seize the educational effectiveness of the groups of university students as mentors and children as mentees, The results are as follows; First, although the importance of STEAM education is highlighted, short-term educational programs tend to consist of only the contents of each field: design or science. Second, pre-training and mentoring were helpful to both mentors and children. Third, Children expanded the perception of STEAM concept and increased their interests in career. Mentors recognized the importance and the necessity of STEAM education, and were very satisfied with team activities which gave a new experience of working with other field of people. Therefore, this program provide to children an experience of logical thinking, having interests on uninterested field, and encouraging teamwork. Also, it provides to mentors a chance to develop their potential and experience, and set up a new vision for future.
The domestic game industry has constantly developed in a short time by concentrating on online games, and keeps growing as a highly added value industry. Also, in the social aspect, it has been seeking various alternatives to place online games as positive and new play culture in the digital era by avoiding negative criticism on game addictiveness. One of important factors in expanding the infrastructure of the game industry and developing it as a type of culture is not simply to develop the existing core genres (on the basis of profits), but to promote the approach of mixture with various contents and of positive functions and thereby enlarge users through various game genres. That is, it is to design games with positive themes and easy immersion by targeting a variety of game users. Such expansion of game design approach is a starting point to develop the infrastructure of the game industry. In the aspect, training professional human resources on the basis of academic and educational process is of significance. Therefore, this work was intended to suggest examples of design approach education based on creativity subject among various subjects with positive functions, and then propose an education process to which Capstone design education contents were applied.
We need education program and contents that satisfy on-off line's education maximize an initiative spirit development in an absence of UI design for infants and elementary students. For the multiplicity of inflection of these initiative spirit development education program, we need development of contents and teaching materials(Cre-kids) that can educate both in on-line and in off-line. Cre-kids are divided of four areas that are increased fluency, flexibility, originality and delicacy. Four areas are ideas of language, visual, making and computer. Through each area, we can develop children's systematic modeling idea ability. And we divide of fluency, flexibility, originality and delicacy each four areas and evaluate each aspect and mark for index. That is CDQ(Creativity Design Quotient). Through the evaluation result, we will be able to study about a modeling initiative spirit index.
Design is a realm one should have brought out creativity. So designers have continuously struggled for creating something new. In respects of that the essence of design work is making novel and creative things, and in design process' creative idea generation' to reach a final design solution is one of important capability that designers must have. In this study two different substantial methods for creative idea generation are suggested. One is existing' analogical association', an essential form widely used in association process, another is 'shape elements reconstruction' similarly operated 'shape grammar'. Therefore in this study for finding methods to reinforce designers' creative idea generation both of paper-based and computer-based design method are suggested substantially. In Both there is a common feature that existing or quiet new elements are organizationally associated or reconstructed in idea generation procedure.
This study aims to suggest a creative design-inducing, teaching-learning method which can enhance the efficiency of design education by helping learners improve their creative thinking and solve problems and apply it to diverse curriculums with a goal of having a positive effect on the development of learners' creativity. For this, it was actually applied to game character design from Department of Game Engineering, formative arts from Department of Beauty Care and Digital Graphics from Department of Visual Design using the action research method, and a teacher defined course topic, contents of the course and creative thinking tools and promoted the class. As a result, it was confirmed that it is effective in deriving creative design and increasing learners' interest and participation in class. When a creative thinking tool was used, however, the outcomes of creative learning slightly varied depending on learners' competence.
Creativity is a important keyword for users as well as for main design organization who needs it. But little attention has been given to the aspect of user's creativity, also there has been a few attempt to apply it into design development until now. Nowadays in design areas, user's experiences and actions are changing the passive states receiving meanings into the active states creating meanings voluntarily. It is resonable to suppose that creative stage is important for users and they have the possibility of new ideas of uses and creating new productions. User's experiences of objects includes that of being formed or supported previously and that of voluntary interpretations acquired for himself, which it may be the possibilities predicted in design process or unknown user's action areas. It is likely that creative use process by themselves are the actions applied and deviated from usability and function by main design organization, also creative productions are arranged and made by users. These have a scope of examination and research in probability that is occurs frequently in user. In this research, approaching with a term, 'User gestures', User gestures are the characteristic action areas based on user's voluntary behaviors, where are revealed a unessential and non-operational function as a action itself and various transformation and creation of products as a outcome of action. This fact proves clearly that user gestures have a worth of alive spectrum to observe aspects of user culture and could be a attractive approach to seek easily new design concept for designer and developer. A further direction of this study will be following areas, Ethnography methods research of user gestures, Cultural research to phenomenon of user design and UGSBD(User gesture scenario based design) research. And it seems probable that they are applied in design development as follows, User initiative customization products, User participatory recycling products and creativity-experience design.
The purpose of this paper is to interpret the discourse on design thinking through the perspective of Roland Barthes' Mythologies. To this end, this paper will explore the mythologization process of design thinking using the methodological framework of Barthes, which structurally interprets the connotations produced using semiosis. Design thinking originally refers to a method which is used in the process of planning ideas about designs in order to create the final products for professional designs. However, design thinking has recently attracted more interest from the public because it has become known as a tool for solving various problems which exist outside of the field of design, such as social issues, management, and marketing strategies. Barthes points out that myths are used as a tool to deliver ideologies. He also emphasizes the importance of 'structural thinking'. It interprets the inherent connotative meanings more than the denotative meanings, which are explicitly shown. One of the most powerful ideologies which our society embraces today is creativity. Design thinking realizes the manifestation of creativity through a schematized process. This can be explained by considering design thinking as an icon that is specifically turned into a figuration to realize its objectness, in which a discourse for solving issues and social codes meet together and form a mythology. The mythologies that Barthes cites in his book refer to mythical values created by the cultural codes which humans have produced in our modern and contemporary age. The symbolic value of design thinking has become more important than the signifier which design thinking itself presents. This means that design thinking has become a sign that has mythical properties. In other words, the ideology of creativity embodied by design thinking has attained a mythological status, as it produces a new cultural code through innovation. The process of interpreting a phenomenon using the perspective of semiotics is an important tool that allows us to examine the concept of an object and its surroundings thoroughly. This paper attempts to expand the external scope of critical analysis about social phenomena by using the signs which continuously reveal themselves in common ideologies, such as design thinking, which has been gaining more popularity recently.
In recent years, collaborative learning in university courses has been emphasized in order to improve collective intelligence. Based on literature reviews, individual creativity was used as a variable of personal characteristic, team trust and collective efficacy were used as variables of teams to see the relationship with collective intelligence as a variable of learning outcome. Data were collected from 770 students from A University in Gyeonggi-do, H University in the Daejeon, and K University in Chungcheong-do, and analyzed by using structural equations modeling. As results, individual creativity had significant influence on collective efficacy and collective intelligence. Team trust also had significant influence on collective efficacy and collective intelligence. In addition, collective efficacy had a positive effect on collective intelligence. This study will be able to utilize basic data for establishing instructional design and strategies of collaborative learning in the universities.
This study presents the cases of 'Idea League' and 'Idea Company' designed to improve the creativity of youth, the protagonist of the future startup in 'Idea Maru' platform. The 'Idea League' is a service where youths suggest ideas about questions that require creativity, and it can be fun to compete rankings of ideas or directly evaluate other ideas. Besides, 'Idea Company' is a service for youths to establish a virtual company, and they can receive mentoring and simulated investment for the established virtual company. The result of this study suggests that gamification can be applied in non-game areas, and it will contribute to spreading positive perception of the game.
