This study investigated the differences between emotional parameters BDI, VHI, STAI-X-I and STAI-X-II according to the menstrual cycles of the female and the relation between changes of the depression index and voice characteristics (jitter, shimmer, CPP, HNR, $pF0{\cdot}F1{\cdot}F2{\cdot}F3$, sF0, sF4, sB1, $H1_{c/u}$, $A1_u$, $A3_c$, $H1A3_{c/u}$, $H1A1_u$). Twenty three females ($30{\pm}4.4$ years old) living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province were participated in this study to answer the questionnaires and record their voice. The participants prolonged /a/ vowel for 5 seconds in a natural condition for their voice recording. Voice data were analyzed using the Matlab and Praat program. A t-test and a correlation analysis were conducted by using SPSS for the statistical analysis. The results are as follows. First, the BDI is significantly higher in group I (lurear phase contrast the menstrual period) and group II (follicular phase against the menstrual period) than group III (luteal phase for follicular phase) (p<.05). Second, shimmer, CPP, pF0 showed a statistically high correlation regarding the BDI in group I (lurear phase contrast the menstrual period). Voice parameters may be useful as supplement in evaluating the emotional change in the phase of menstrual cycle.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between quality of life and Mibyeong index of abnormal symptoms by the Mibyeong state. Methods : A total of 1,100 people were recruited into this study and were collected by specialized research company. The data were collected by personal information using MBI(Mibyeong Index) and SF-12 (Short form-12) and were analyzed with SPSS (version 21.0) computer program, and included Pearson's chi-square test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results : The Mibyeong Index which represents abnormal symptom type showed significant difference for Mibyeong state (p<.001). In Total subject, fatigue, pain, low sleep quality and indigestion were found to be significant predictors of PCS(Physical Component Summary). In Healthy group, pain was found to be significant predictor of PCS. In MI 1 group, fatigue, pain, indigestion and anxiety were found to be significant predictors of PCS. In MI 2 group, fatigue, pain and low sleep quality were found to be significant predictors of PCS. In Total subject, fatigue, depression, anger and anxiety were found to be significant predictors of MCS (Mental Component Summary). In Healthy group, indigestion and anxiety were found to be significant predictors of MCS. In MI 1 group, depression and anger were found to be significant predictors of MCS. In MI 2 group, fatigue and depression were found to be significant predictors of MCS. Conclusions : The relationship between Quality of life and MBI changes according to Mibyeong state. We expect that this result could be contribute to health management of people in Mibyeong state.
This study is intended to investigate the demographic characteristics and socio-economic status of students, and to reveal the correlations between food habit and health condition by Todai health Index. The results of this study were summerized as followes: 1) the sex ratio of the subjects was 309 males: 129 females. Mean score of the food habit was 7,56 in males and 8.88 in females. The subjects were included in Fair and Poor group generally. Food habit score of students living their own home were significantly higher generally. Food habit score of students living their own home were significantly higher than those of the others (Lodging & Relatives, Self-Boarding, Dormitory, and so forth). 2) In males and females, mean of height and weight were 171.6cm, 62.1kg and 159.9cm, 50.9kg, respectively. Though there was insignificant difference in the physical index according to food habit score in general, there was a special trend in case of male that the higher food habit score they have, the higher physical index they get. The subjects with low food habit score showed the higher THI point in Life-irregularity, Straight-forwardness, depression and Sufferings than those with high food habit score. The female subjects with high food habit score showed the lower THI point in depression, on the contrary, showed higher in vanity. There was significant correlation between instant food, drinking and smoking and THI point.
The purpose of this study is to identify walking time, self-efficacy for exercise, sleep quality and depression in order to confirm the relationship between college students' activity level and psychological index. The research method is a cross-sectional descriptive survey of college students. The subjects of this study were 135 students enrolled in colleges in Gyeongbuk. Self-efficacy for exercise was higher than the average, and walking time was about 1.7 hours per day on average, walking less than 2 hours. Sleep quality was most of them had problems with their sleep quality (71.9%). Depression was about half of the students showed a tendency to be depressed (49.6%). It was found that there was a correlation between self-efficacy and depression for exercise (p=.012). This study can be used as basic data for the development of programs to increase physical activity and improve psychological index of college students in the future.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to know that Beck Depression Inventory(BDI) score to effect on improvement degree of low back pain after oriental medical treatment. Methods : We analyzed charts of 33 inpatients who were treated in Ja-Seng Hospital of Oriental Medicine and Bu-Cheon Ja-seng Hospital of Oriental Medicine. Subject is divided into Group A(BDI<10) and Group B(BDI${\geqq}$10). Numerical Rating Scale(NRS) and Oswestry Disability Index(ODI) were checked on admission, after 1 week, NRS and ODI were rechecked to estimate the efficacy of treatments. Results : 1. In both groups, NRS was significantly decreased(p<0.05). Analyzed result of the interaction between the two groups didn't show significant difference(p=0.197). 2. In Group A, ODI was significantly decresed(p<0.05). In Group B, ODI wasn't significantly decreased(p=0.058). The interaction analysis between the two groups didn't show significant difference(p=0.173). 3. Analyzing patients with chronic back pain longer than 6 months by the presence of depression tendency and NRS, ODI decrease after 1 week of ambulation, while the NRS reduction showed relevancy by the depression tendency (p<0.05), the ODI reduction didn't(p=0.272). Conclusions : 1. Although improvement of pain before and after the treatment and degree of functional recovery in high-level BDI group was less than low-level BDI group, but it was stastically insignificant. 2. High BDI score of patients with chronic low back pain is the factor of disturbing pain improvement.
Backgoround: This study aimed to examine the influence of anxiety sensitivity on task performance and physiological stress response, and to assess the effect of depression in this process for the youth population. Methods: We presented participants with an uncontrollable stress situation where they were required to perform mental arithmetic, based on the Montreal Imaging Stress Task (MIST). A total of 29 participants volunteered for this study. They completed the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-Revised and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 to measure their levels of anxiety sensitivity and depression. Two saliva samples, one before and one after the experiment, were collected to assess the change in cortisol levels as an index of physiological stress response. Results: Participants with high anxiety sensitivity showed lower performance on the mental arithmetic tasks and a significant increase in a salivary cortisol level, compared to those with low anxiety sensitivity. Furthermore, cortisol levels showed a remarkable increase where high anxiety sensitivity was coupled with depressed mood. In other hands, the levels of cortisol remained unchanged despite high anxiety sensitivity with low depressed mood. Conclusions: Our results confirm that the interaction between anxiety sensitivity and depression affects participants' task performance and stress response, as measured through behavioral tasks and physiological data with self-report indices. Also, through the physiological data, we examined that those who have a high level of anxiety sensitivity showed maladaptive responses under high stressful situation.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the depression in middle-aged women. The subjects for this study were 246 middle-aged women in Kangwondo, the northeastern part of Korea. Data were collected from February 22 to April 24, 1999 by a structured questionnaire. The instruments for this study were CES-D (Radloff, 1977), somatic discomfort scale (Wittenborn, 1979), self-esteem scale (Rosenburg, 1971) and life satisfaction Index-Z (Wood et al. 1969). The data were analyzed by SAS/PC+ program using ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The results of the study were as follows : 1. Of 246 middle-aged women, 91 women (37%) revealed depression. The percentage of mild, moderate, severe depression were 17.78%, 11.28%, 7.72% respectively. 2. The statistically significant difference in the score of the depression according to the age (F=3.46, p=.0001)was obtained. 3. There were significant differences between depression and somatic discomfort (F=15.71, p=.0001). 4. The significant differences between depression and life satisfaction (F=23.89, p=.0001) was obtained. 5. The data shows the positive correlations between depression and somatic discomfort (r=.4856, p=.0001), between self-esteem and life-satisfaction(r=.2727, p=.0001), but we found negative correlations between depression and self-esteem(r=-4200, p=.0001), between depression and life-satisfaction(r=-.4409, p=.0001), between somatic discomfort and self-esteem(r=-.2275, p=.0015), between somatic discomfort and life-satisfaction(r=-.2695, p=.0002).
Objectives: The present study aims to determine the causal relationship between self-rated depression and experiences of injury and accidents in municipal firefighters. Methods: A panel survey of 186 municipal firefighters measured with depressive symptoms according to the Beck's depression index (BDI) was conducted. The effects of job-related injuries and accidents were evaluated using self-administered questionnaires that were taken once in a 12-month period from 2005 to 2006. Firefighters were classified into the Depression Group or Control Group based on follow-up BDI results with a cutoff level that was set to having "over mild depression." Results: The depression Group was comprised of 17 (9.1%) workers, including 9 firefighters who met had sufficient BDI scores twice in the 2-year test period and newly sufficient BDI scores in the follow-up test. A significantly higher number of subjects in the Depression Group experienced injuries and accidents in the 2-year test period as compared to the Control Group (15.4% vs. 1.5%, p=0.04). Firefighters who experienced injuries and accidents in the 2-year test period had a 7.4 times higher risk of being in the Depression Group than those who had not. As compared to accidents, near-miss accidents revealed stronger risks related to being classified as in the Depression group (adjusted odds ratio [OR] = 4.58, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.15-18.18 vs. Adjusted OR = 4.22, 95% CI = 1.08-16.58). Conclusion: The above results suggest that we should establish an effective program to promote mental health for groups at high risk for self-rated depression, including persons who have experienced consecutive injuries and accidents as well as near-miss injuries.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine change in adolescent depression across time and to determine the relation between individual and neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES) and depression. Methods: This study employed multilevel latent growth analysis using longitudinal data from Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey. A sample of this study consists of 2,351 adolescents who were in first grade of middle school in 2010. Results: Results showed that both initial level and downward trajectory of depression varied significantly across individuals as well as across neighborhoods. On the individual level, self-rated economic condition(b=-0.203, p<.001) was related to the initial level of depression. Adolescents whose father had a high educational level(b=0.028, p<.001) or whose mother had a low educational level(b=-0.022, p=.011) had lower rates of decline in adolescent depression. On the neighborhood level, neighborhood deprivation index (b=0.003, p=.019) and gini coefficient(b=0.124, p=.040) were associated with lower rates of decline in depression. Conclusions: Low SES in adolescence is correlated with worse mental health, especially depression. Social disparities in depression likely originate before adulthood. The findings argue for the importance of understanding depression in adolescence from a multilevel or ecological framework.

This study analyzed the contents of the research papers concerning the obesity from a psychiatrical point of view. As a result, the following conclusion was drawn. 1. In obese people, negative emotions, especially depression were frequently reported. 2. Negative feelings, especially anger, anxiety, depression, induce binge eating and can lead to obesity. 3. Depression was related to the wrong body image more than to the body mass index. 4. Wrong body image affects eating attitudes, which may cause eating disorders. 5. To treat obesity or eating disorders, we must use psychosocial treatment, for example, supportive, cognitive or behavior therapy.
