  • This paper presents an efficient method for analysis of magnetodynamic system using frequency-dependent parameters. In equivalent electric circuit of linear magnetodynamic system, parameters of inductance and resistance are not constant since they vary with its driving frequency. Once frequency-dependent parameters of equivalent electric circuit for a given system are extracted, they can be used to analyze various characteristics of system. We use the Fourier transform, the high-order sensitivity method and Taylor series in order to efficiently extract the frequency-dependent parameters of magnetodynamic system. The proposed algorithm is applied to an induction heating system to validate its numerical efficiency.

  • Investigators have been perplexed with the thermal phenomena behind the recently discovered nanofluids, fluids with unprecedented stability of suspended nanoparticles although huge difference in the density of nanoparticles and fluid. For example, nanofluids have anomalously high thermal conductivities at very low fraction, strongly temperature-dependent and size-dependent conductivities, and three-fold higher critical heat flux than that of base fluids. Traditional conductivity theories such as the Maxwell or other macroscale approaches cannot explain why nanofluids have these intriguing features. So in this paper, we devise a theoretical model that accounts for the fundamental role of dynamic nanoparticles in nanofluids. The proposed model not only captures the concentration and temperature-dependent conductivity, but also predicts strongly size-dependent conductivity. Furthermore, we physically explain the new phenomena for nanofluids. In addition, based on a proposed model, the effects of various parameters such as the ratio of thermal conductivity of nanofluids to that of a base fluid, volume fraction, nanoparticle size, and temperature on the thermal conductivities of nanofluids are investigated.

  • We investigated the effects of butanol fraction of Asterias amurensis (BFA) on the anti-allergic activity. BFA inhibited both cyclooxygenase-2 dependent prostaglandin $D_2$ and 5-lipoxygenase dependent leukotriene $C_4$ generation in a concentration-dependent manner with $IC_{50}$ values of 174.6 and 22.2 ${\mu}g$/ml, respectively. In addition, BFA also inhibited the degranulation in a dose dependent manner. Furthermore, oral administration of BFA inhibited IgE-mediated passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in mice. These results suggested that BFA may be useful in regulating mast cell-mediated allergic diseases.

  • To explore the effect of monosodium-L-glutamate(MSG) on CCI$_{4}$-damaged liver in Wister male rat, 5% MSG solution as drink water were administered after S.C. injection of 0.1 mg/kg CC1$_{4}$ twice a week for 4 weeks. After last administration of MSG, heptic glutathione(GSH) dependent system was assayed. It showed that MSG increased significanly hepatic glutathione(GSH) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH$_{px}$), but decreased glutathione-S-transferase(GST) acivity in normal rats. MSG increased significantly the GSH$_{px}$ and GST activities in rats with CCI$_{4}$-induced liver damage. These results indicate that decrease of GSH dependent systems in CC1$_{4}$ liver injury might be partially elevated by coadministration of MSG.

  • This paper presents an adaptive controller for the compensation of state-dependent disturbance with unknown amplitude in a digital servo motor system. The state-dependent disturbance is caused by friction and eccentricity between the wheel axis and the motor driver of a mobile robot servo system. The proposed control scheme guarantees an asymptotical stability for both the velocity and position regulation. An experimental result shows the effectiveness of the adaptive disturbance compensator for wheeled-mobile robot in a low velocity diffusion tracking. A comparative experimental study with a simple PI controller is presented.

  • A new family of structure-dependent integration methods is developed to enhance with desired numerical damping. This family method preserves the most important advantage of the structure-dependent integration method, which can integrate unconditional stability and explicit formulation together, and thus it is very computationally efficient. In addition, its numerical damping can be continuously controlled with a parameter. Consequently, it is best suited to solving an inertia-type problem, where the unimportant high frequency responses can be suppressed or even eliminated by the favorable numerical damping while the low frequency modes can be very accurately integrated.

  • In designing the Prestressed concrete box-girder bridge. dead load, prestressing force, creep and shrinkage of concrete are the main factors which influence the camber and deflection of segmental concrete structure under construction. Among these factors the creep and shrinkage are the functions of the time-dependent property which. therefore, must be considered with time. The prediction model for estimating creep and shrinkage of concrete has been suggested by ACI, CEB/FIP, JSCE and KSCE design code and EMM, AEMM, RCM, IDM and SSM has been suggested for analytical method in consideration of time-dependent characteristics. In this study the creep test was carried out for four different curing ages of concrete which were applied to the Prestressed concrete structure at the construction site, and the results of test were compared with the values of creep prediction proposed by the design code. Also the creep test was performed with step-wise incremental stresses and the results were compared to the analytical values.

  • Most of the methods presented in the literature to define the target service stresses (Objective Service Stage, OSS) of cable-stayed bridges rarely include the time-dependent phenomena effects. Nevertheless, especially in concrete structures, this assumption might be on the unsafe side because time-dependent phenomena usually modify service stresses. To fill this gap, this paper studies the time-dependent phenomena effects into service stresses of concrete cable-stayed bridges. After illustrating the important role of these phenomena in an asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge without backstay, a new method to include their effects into the OSS is presented. An important issue to be considered in this method is the target time in which the OSS is defined to be achieved. The application of this method to two different structures showed the convenience of defining the OSS to be achieved at early times because that way the envelope of service stresses is reduced.

  • This paper is concerned with the problem of delay-dependent robust $H_{\infty}$ filtering for uncertain descriptor systems with time-varying delay. The considering uncertainty is convex compact set of polytoic type. The purpose is the design of a linear filter such that the resulting filtering error descriptor system is regular, impulse-free, and asymptotically stable with $H_{\infty}$ norm bound. By establishing a finite sum inequality based on quadratic terms, a new delay-dependent bounded real lemma (BRL) for delayed descriptor systems is derived. Based on the derived BRL, a robust $H_{\infty}$ filter is designed in terms of linear matrix inequaltity (LMI). Numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
