Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine decision factors to start orthodontic treatment with male and female undergraduates having experience in orthodontic treatment at a dental clinic or hospital because of malocclusion. Methods: A survey was carried out to investigate decision factors to begin orthodontic treatment with 330 male and female undergraduates attending universities located in Daegu Metropolitan City or Gyeongsangbuk-do who had experience in orthodontic treatment at a dental clinic or hospital because of malocclusion, and out of 330 questionnaire sheets, total 294 (89.1%) sheets were employed for analysis after excluding ones unreliably or erroneously answered. Results: According to the results of analyzing decision factors for orthodontic treatment, such factors as 'a dentistry-related person's suggestion', 'feeling necessity on one's own' are found to be significantly higher in students majoring in health units than those having non-dental health majors, and students residing in small and medium cities are influenced more significantly by this decision factor, 'an acquaintance's suggestion', than those living in farming and fishing villages or big cities, and students who started orthodontic treatment at elementary school were more significantly influenced by the factor, 'feeling necessity through the public media'. Conclusion: Among the factors influencing their decision on orthodontic treatment, no influence was found in sexual difference, and each of the decision factors influenced them considerably according to the difference of their residence, economic power, majors, or time to start orthodontic treatment.
Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the correlation among dental hygiene students' life stress, grit, and career decisionmaking self-efficacy, and to identify the factors influencing career decision-making self-efficacy. Methods: Data were collected through a survey from October 19 to November 7, 2020, targeting 196 students enrolled in dental hygiene departments in Daejeon and Daegu. Life stress, grit, and career decision-making self-efficacy were measured. For data analysis, the descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis were performed using SPSS/WIN 24.0. Results: Life stress was 2.12 points, grit was 3.07 points, and career decision-making self-efficacy was 3.43 points. Career decision-making self-efficacy was influenced by satisfaction with the course department, as well as life stress and grit; the most influential factor was found to be grit. These variables could explain career decision-making self-efficacy by 23.8%. Conclusions: For students to advance successfully into society as dental hygienists, a career decision-making self-efficacy promotion program that can help students achieve self-confidence and establish career goals should be developed. additionally, a program that can enhance grit should be included in this development.
This exploratory research investigated the factors that influence foreign tourists' decision to use dental services in Thailand. The questionnaire was used to collect data from foreign tourists who used dental services in a hospital or dental clinic in Thailand. Data from 233 respondents completed questionnaires were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentages, mean, and standard deviation. The findings revealed that respondents were most likely to be Asian (54.5%) followed by European (33.9%), females (64.8%) aged between 26-35 years (39.1%), business owners (45.9%), and came to Thailand with friends (47.6%). Regarding travel purposes and contact with dental services, most of them travel for pleasure (52.89%) and contact the clinic directly through the Internet(63.95%) The health/medical services used included health check-up (34.48%), dental services (29.22%), and day spa/massage (23.23%). The dental treatment that respondents had completed or planned to do included dental check-up (29.87%), tooth cleaning (26.68%), and tooth whitening (11.41%). Based on the influence of $_7P$ factors towards the respondent's decision to use the dental service, it was found that the average mean score range from 4.33-4.15 which were at the high to the very high level of influence to their decisions. The people factor had the highest average mean score (mean 4.33, SD= 0.604)followed by the price factor (mean 4.32, SD= 0.651), which both had the highest level of influence. The physical evidence factor had the lowest mean score (mean 4.15, SD+0.752) which was at the high level of importance. It should be noted that the factor concerning the modern technology and dental equipment (mean 4.33, SD=0.606) and factor on the quality of service (mean 4.43, SD= 0.598) had the highest mean score followed by the total cost of the trip including services being reasonable (mean 4.37, SD=0.582). Regarding the country factor, it was found that this factor also had highest influence level (mean 4.30, SD=0.67) and affordability had the highest mean score (mean 4.39, SD=0.614).
This article discusses how to conduct treatment planning and decision making in special needs dentistry. Special needs patients often lack cooperative ability during dental treatment and have a deteriorated oral health status. To overcome the limitation in communication with special needs patients and solve their complicated dental problems, dentists need to have extensive preoperative information about the patients and their caregivers. Treatment procedures should be organized in a patient-centered and cost-effective manner. Additionally, clinical outcomes need to be predicted taking into consideration of the patients' condition. The clinical experience of committed dentists is another factor that enhances the benefits of extensive treatment in special needs patients with many limitations. The insightful treatment decision-making of dentists will contribute to improving the oral health of special needs patients despite the various obstacles.

PURPOSE. This study tried to find the most significant factors predicting implant prognosis using machine learning methods. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The data used in this study was based on a systematic search of chart files at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital for one year. In this period, oral and maxillofacial surgeons inserted 667 implants in 198 patients after consultation with a prosthodontist. The traditional statistical methods were inappropriate in this study, which analyzed the data of a small sample size to find a factor affecting the prognosis. The machine learning methods were used in this study, since these methods have analyzing power for a small sample size and are able to find a new factor that has been unknown to have an effect on the result. A decision tree model and a support vector machine were used for the analysis. RESULTS. The results identified mesio-distal position of the inserted implant as the most significant factor determining its prognosis. Both of the machine learning methods, the decision tree model and support vector machine, yielded the similar results. CONCLUSION. Dental clinicians should be careful in locating implants in the patient's mouths, especially mesio-distally, to minimize the negative complications against implant survival.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between dental decision factors and dental service satisfaction of the high school students. The study participants consisted of 300 high school students in some regions. A total of 288 were used for the final analysis, except 12 with insufficient responses. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 18.0 program. According to general characteristics, if there was no scaling experience, orthodontic treatment, high satisfaction with school life, the higher the subjective oral health status, the higher the satisfaction of the dental hospital. Hospital decision factors according to the general characteristics of the subjects most frequently answered that employee service satisfaction was important. As a result of testing the correlation between hospital decision factors and medical service satisfaction, there was a significant positive correlation between medical service satisfaction, such as facility, recommendation of others, use procedures, service adequacy, employee service satisfaction. As a factor influencing dental hospital satisfaction, subjective oral health was shown as a good criterion, and usage procedures and staff service satisfaction showed positive relevance. Continuous trust builds up is important to improve patient satisfaction.
This study attempted to grasp the causal relationship, focusing on the double mediating effect of career identity and career decision self-efficacy in the relationship between grit and career preparation behavior. Data were collected by a self-entry method using structured questionnaire for dental hygiene student in area B. And it was analyzed using SPSS and Process Macro. The biggest factor directly influencing career preparation behavior was career identity, followed by grit and career decision self-efficacy. Through path analysis, grit indirectly had a significant influence on career preparation behavior through the mediating sense of career identity and the sense of career identity and career decision self-efficacy. This suggests that grit and career identity should be enhanced for active career preparation behavior, so it is intended to be used as basic data for career education contents development for college students majoring in dental hygiene.

In recent decades, dental erosion has received a considerable amount of attention with a steady increase of the prevalence. However, the awareness of this matter in our society, including dentistry is still lacking. Dental erosion is an irreversible loss of dental hard tissue leading to a complex condition. To prevent detrimental effects, it is important to detect conditions as early as possible and inhibit progression. In children and adolescents, early intervention is more important than in adults. As dental erosion is a multifactorial condition, dentists need to fully understand the phenomena and do systematic oral examination with thorough history taking for early diagnosis. When the main etiological factor is detected, it is necessary to make an effort to eliminate it and stop progression of the lesions with preventive measures. Restorative treatment should not be started unless substance loss reaches a certain level. Once the decision is made for treatment, care must be taken to choose the least invasive method.
