The present experiments differning from that conducted by agriculturists with the first consideration of food or seed production were performed in order to investigate the density effect on dry matter production in the artified population of maize. Three experimental plots were established and one seed was sown in the first plot, 2 seeds in the second plot and 3 seeds in the third plot, respectively. The space of each ridge was designed with 30cm in width and 50cm in length. The space of each seed was 4cm and the growth amount by density was measured through three times. The results obtained are as follows: 1) The total growth amount per unit area was in the order of the third, second and first plots until the second sampling. At the third sampling the whole plots showed almost the same growth amount except the first plot which showed a slightly smaller amount. 2) The growth amount per individual plant was in the order of the third, second and first plots until the second sampling, while the first plot showed drastic growth compared with the other two plots at the third sampling. 3) The growth amount by each organ(leaf, stem and root) of the plant body was markedly abundant in the stem of the non-productive part compared with that in the leaf of the productive part. Especially the root was affected remarkably by density and the first plot showed an abundant growth in comparison with the other plots which were too poor to resist the gound surface.
A serpentine channel geometry often used in a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell has a strong pressure gradient between adjacent channels in specific regions. The pressure gradient helps some amount of reactant gas penetrate through a gas diffusion layer(GDL). As a result, the overall serpentine flow structure is slightly different from intention of a designer. The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of serpentine flow structure on current density distribution. By using a commercial code, STAR-CD, a numerical simulation is performed to analyze the fuel cell with relatively high aspect ratio active area. To increase the accuracy of the numerical simulation, GDL permeabilities are measured with various compression conditions. Three-dimensional flow field and current density distribution are calculated. For the verification of the numerical simulation results, water condensation process in the cathode channel is observed through a transparent bipolar plate. The result of this study shows that the region of relatively low current density corresponds to that of dropwise condensation in cathode channels.
The aim of this study was to define an arginine effect when added to a diet. The influence of arginine supplements on bone mineral density and content were studied in young female Sprague-Dawley rats fed either an arginine supplemented diet or control diet. Twenty four rats (body weight $83{\pm}5g$) were randomly assigned to one of two groups, consuming casein or casein with supplemented arginine diet. All rats were fed on experimental diet and deionized water ad libitum for 9 weeks. Bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) were measured using PIXImus (GE Lunar Co, Wisconsin, USA) in spine and femur 3, 6, and 9 weeks after feeding. The serum and urine concentrations of Ca and P were determined. Diet did not affect weight gain and mean food intake. The serum concentration of Ca and P were not changed by arginine supplementation. Urinary Ca excretion was significantly decreased by arginine supplementation. Spine BMD was significantly increased by arginine supplementation on 3 and 6 weeks after feeding. Femur BMD was significantly increased in the group of arginine supplementation on 3, 6, and 9 weeks. Rats fed the arginine-supplemented diet had better bone mineral content than did control diet rats in the experimental period. Therefore, arginine supplementation may be beneficial on spine and femur BMD increment in growing female rats. These are thought to be associated with an arginine-induced growth hormone release. The exact mechanism of this effect remains to be elucidated.

A multicusp ion source has been used widely in negative hydrogen cyclotrons mainly for radioisotope productions. The ion source is designed to have cusp geometries of magnetic field inside plasma chamber, where ions are confining and their mean lifetimes increase. The magnetic confinement produced a number of permanent magnetic poles helps to increase beam currents and reduce the emittance. Therefore optimizing the number of magnets confining more ions and increasing their mean lifetime in plasma has to be investigated in order to improve the performance of the ion source. In this work a numerical simulation of the magnetic flux density from a number of permanent magnets is carried to optimize the cusp geometries producing the highest plasma density, which is clearly indicated along the full-line cusp geometry. The effect of magnetic fields and a number of poles on the plasma structure are investigated by a computing tool. The electron confinement effect becomes stronger and the density increases with increasing the number of poles. On the contrary, the escape of electrons from the loss cone becomes more frequent as the pole number increases [1]. To understand above observation the electron and ion's trajectories along with different cusp geometries are simulated. The simulation has been shown that the optimized numbers of magnets can improve the ion density and uniformity.
The effect of a CAM (Continuous Attrition Mill) treatment on the sinterability of ex-ADU $UO_2$ powder was investigated. As the cycles of a CAM increased, the apparent density, specific surface area and O/U of the milled powder increased, but there particle sizes decreased. However the sintered density of the $UO_2$ pellet decreased as the cycles of the CAM increased. It is considered that the decrease of the sintered density is due to the formation of $U_3O_8$, which was produced by a CAM mechanism.
This study was carried out to discuss the feasibility of wood and plastic wastes as the raw materials for wood particle-plastic composites. For this purpose, composites were manufactured from coarse and fine wood particles and polypropylene fibers by nonwoven web process. And the effect of wood particle size on the performance of the composites were analyzed according to ASTM D 1037-93. In the physical properties of composites, water absorption decreased with the increase of target density and polypropylene fiber content. And the composites with fine wood particles appeared to have slightly lower water absorption than those with coarse wood particles. Thickness swelling did not vary significantly with the increase of target density but increased with the increase of wood particle content. And the composites with fine wood particles were significantly lower in thickness swelling than those with coarse wood particles. In the mechanical properties of composites, dry and wet MOR showed the increasing tendency with the increase of polypropylene fiber content and target density. Dry and wet MOE showed the increasing tendency with the increase of target density but only wet MOE exhibited the increasing tendency with the increase of polypropylene fiber content. Composites with fine wood particles appeared to be generally higher in wet MOR and MOE than those with coarse wood particles. In conclusion, composites with fine wood particles showed generally higher performance than those with coarse ones. Also, composites were significantly superior to control particleboards in the performance, especially in water absorption and thickness swelling.

This study evaluates the relationship between cone tip resistance ($q_c$) and small-strain shear modulus ($G_{max}$) of cemented sand. For this purpose, a series of miniature cone penetration and bender element tests are performed in calibration chamber specimens with various gypsum contents. Experimental results show that both $q_c$ and $G_{max}$ of sand increase with increasing cementation level as well as relative density and vertical confining stress. However, the relative density and vertical confining stress has more significant influence on $G_{max}$ and $q_c$ of uncemented sand than those of cemented sand. It is observed that the $G_{max}/q_c$ ratio of cemented sand decreases with increasing relative density. This result means that state variables have more affect on $q_c$ than $G_{max}$ of cemented sand. Test results also show that the effect of vertical stress on $G_{max}-q_c$ relation is reduced by cementation effect.

The properties of pyrolytic carbon (PyC) deposited from $C_2H_2$ and a mixture of $C_2H_2/C_3H_6$ on $ZrO_2$ particles in a fluidized bed reactor were studied by adjusting the deposition temperature, reactant concentration, and the total gas flow rate. The effect of the deposition parameters on the properties of PyC was investigated by analyzing the microstructure and density change. The density could be varied from $1.0\;g/cm^3$ to $2.2\;g/cm^3$ by controlling the deposition parameters. The density decreased and the deposition rate increased as the deposition temperature and reactant concentration increased. The PyC density was largely dependent on the deposition rate irrespective of the type of the reactant gas used.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a 8-week dynamic yoga program on body composition and blood lipids in middle-aged post-menopausal women. Method: Twenty participants were allocated to the yoga group (YG, n=10) or the control group (CG, n=10). They were assessed for lean body mass, percent body fat, waist to hip ratio, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride both before and after intervention. The yoga group participated in the program lasting $50{\sim}60$ minutes, five times a week for 8 weeks. Results: Unlike the control group, the yoga group showed a significant decrease in total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, percent body fat, and waist hip ratio after the yoga training. However, changes in lean body mass, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglyceride level during the intervention period were not different between the yoga group and the control group. Conclusion: The 8-week dynamic yoga program could be adopted to prevent cardiovascular diseases in middle-aged post-menopausal women by promoting body composition & blood lipids.

The effect of the temperature, current density and deposit time on hard chromium deposition in trivalent chromium bath was investigated. Cathode current efficiency increased with increasing current density. Increasing bath temperature from $20^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$, chromium deposits were produced in higher current density and the maximum current efficiency was increased. At the plating conditions of $40^{\circ}C$, $30A/dm\m^2$, the deposition thickness increased in proportion to increasing electrolysis time The rate is$ 90\mu\textrm{m}$/hrs. for 2 hours. Microhardness of chromium deposits increased with increasing bath temperature and decreasing current density, and it was constant with electrolysis time. All of bath conditions, microstructure of chromium deposits has nodular structure with some cracking pattern and nodule size increased with increasing deposit thickness.
