In recent years, the smart grid technique for maximizing the energy efficiency of power networks has received a great deal of attentions. In particular, the Demand Response is a core technology differentiated from the present power network under the smart grid paradigm. To minimize the electric cost and maximize users' satisfaction, this paper proposes a unique scheduling algorithm derived by using optimization where the characteristics of various home appliances are taken into account. For this goal, we represent mathematical consumption patterns of the electric loads and propose the optimal scheduling scheme based on the importance factor of each device during one day. In the simulation results, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in the viewpoint of the minimal electric costs utilizing real statistical figures.
We propose a hybrid broadcast scheduling based on a combination of periodic and on-demand data scheduling methods for mobile data broadcasting in convergence networks from communication and broadcasting. We consider an environment in which the forward channel is for data broadcasting and the reverse channel is for sending data requests via cellular phones, WLAN, WiBro, etc. Collecting statistics of requests from clients, the server partitions the data items into hot-item and cold-item sets. Hot items are sent based on a push-based scheduling. An on-demand scheduling method is applied to cold items. Performance evaluation from simulations shows that our proposed scheduling algorithm yields small response time with high successful response ratio.

In this paper, we first introduce a general architecture of an energy management system in a home area network based on a smart grid. Then, we propose an efficient scheduling method for home power usage. The home gateway (HG) receives the demand response (DR) information indicating the real-time electricity price, which is transferred to an energy management controller (EMC). Referring to the DR, the EMC achieves an optimal power scheduling scheme, which is delivered to each electric appliance by the HG. Accordingly, all appliances in the home operate automatically in the most cost-effective way possible. In our research, to avoid the high peak-to-average ratio (PAR) of power, we combine the real-time pricing model with the inclining block rate model. By adopting this combined pricing model, our proposed power scheduling method effectively reduces both the electricity cost and the PAR, ultimately strengthening the stability of the entire electricity system.

This paper proposes the registration information, the participation information for classifying demand resources participate in demand response program. Modeling demand resources from them, it evaluates values of demand resources. Specially assuming that ignore the loss in power system, they take a role as generation. This paper proposes how to evaluate demand resources' values. Case study shows that demand response operators schedule efficiently demand response program by using index of such as the registration information the participation information of demand resource.

Demand response (DR) refers to the customers' active reaction with respect to the changes of market pricing or incentive policies. DR plays an important role in improving network reliability, minimizing operational cost and increasing end users' benefits. Hence, the integration of DR in the microgrid (MG) management is gaining increasing popularity nowadays. This paper proposes a day-ahead MG scheduling framework in conjunction with DR and investigates the impact of DR in optimizing load profile and reducing overall power generation costs. A linear responsive model considering time of use (TOU) price and incentive is developed to model the active reaction of customers' consumption behaviors. Thereafter, a novel multi-swarm sine cosine algorithm (MSCA) is proposed to optimize the total power generation costs in the framework. In the proposed MSCA, several sub-swarms search for better solutions simultaneously which is beneficial for improving the population diversity. A cooperative learning scheme is developed to realize knowledge dissemination in the population and a competitive substitution strategy is proposed to prevent local optima stagnation. The simulation results obtained by the proposed MSCA are compared with other meta-heuristic algorithms to show its effectiveness in reducing overall generation costs. The outcomes with and without DR suggest that the DR program can effectively reduce the total generation costs and improve the stability of the MG network.

Customers hardly change to electric prices in old days because electricity is essential commodity, while demand changes with price after deregulation. It's explained by price-based demand response with demand-elasticity matrix. Also all of the customers have had identical demand-price elasticity matrix till now. But in a practical power system, various customers are present with taking a variety of demand-price elasticity. Therefore this paper proposes demand-price sensitivity to represent different demand-price elasticity. Also as proposing demand-reliability sensitivity, it is modeling various customers' characteristics to reliability. And then this paper calculates total expected interruption cost of customer from the customer interruption cost and the demand-reliability sensitivity. A total expected interruption cost of system is shown as opportunity cost of a generation cost.
Regarding demand response (DR) by residential users (R-users), the users try to reduce electricity costs by adjusting their power consumption in response to the time-varying price. However, their power consumption may be affected not only by the price, but also by user convenience for using appliances. This paper proposes a methodology for appliance scheduling (AS) that considers the user convenience based on historical data. The usage pattern for appliances is first modeled applying the copula function or clustering method to evaluate user convenience. As the modeling results, the comfort distribution or representative scenarios are obtained, and then used to formulate a discomfort index (DI) to assess the degree of the user convenience. An AS optimization problem is formulated in terms of cost and DI. In the case study, various AS tasks are performed depending on the weights for cost and DI. The results show that user convenience has significant impacts on AS. The proposed methodology can contribute to induce more DR participation from R-users by reflecting properly user convenience to AS problem.
The performance of video-on-demand(VOD) systems is known to be mainly dependent on a scheduling mechanism which they employ. Broadcast-based scheduling schemes have attracted a lot of attention as an efficient way of distributing popular videos to very large client populations. The main motivations of broadcasting scheduling mechanisms are that they scale up extremely well and they have very modest bandwidth requirements. This paper studies this issue and proposes a new broadcasting scheduling mechanism, named fast universal video dis-tribution(FUVD). FUVD scheme dynamically constructs a video broadcasting schedule in response to client requests, and broadcasts video seg-ments according to this schedule. This paper also evaluates the performance of FUVD on the basis of a simulation approach. The simulation results indicate that FUVD protocol shows a superior performance over UD, CBHD, and NPB in terms of the average response time.
This paper analyzes the correlation between Net Benefit Test (NBT) and System marginal price (SMP), which has a significant impact on the allocation of demand response (DR) resources in resource scheduling and commitment (RSC) process, based on the performance data of the demand resource market which has been established in 2014. Demand resources compete with generation resources in the RSC process, and it is prescribed to use demand resources only when net benefit occurs. Analysis result shows that the larger the SMP than the Net Benefit Threshold Price (NBTP), the more the winning bid of demand response resource was. It is interpreted that the introduction of NBT in DR market is justified. The demand resource market has been steadily growing. It is required to expand the scope of resources up to the small-sized DR, and to expand the functionalities of demand resources not only in the current energy market but also in the reserve market in the future. In order for that, institutional improvements are required.
