  • Fatty acid compositions of the seed oils of P. schinseng, A. continentalis and A. sessiliflorus, were analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) equipped with a capillary column. A large unusual peak was observed just before the peak corresponding to oleic acid $(cis-9-C_{18:1})$. This unknown fatty acid was isolated by silver ion chromatography and then derivatized into the picolinyl ester. The mass spectrum of the picolinyl ester showed molecular ion at m/z=373 with other diagnostic ions such as m/z=178, 218, 232, 246, 274, 288, 302 and 344. Characteristic absorption peaks at $720\;cm^{-1}$, $1640\;cm^{-1}$ and $3010\;cm^{-1}$ in IR spectrum indicated the presence of cis-configurational double bond in the molecule. The $^1H-NMR$ spectrum of this acid gave two quintets centered at ${\delta}1.638$ (2H, C-3) and ${\delta}1.377$ (2H, C-4), and two multiplets centered at ${\delta}2.022{\sim}2.047$ (2H, C-5) and ${\delta}2.000{\sim}2.022$ (2H, C-8), and multiplet signals of olefinic protons centered at ${\delta}5.3015{\sim}5.3426$ (C-6, J=9.5 Hz) and ${\delta}\;5.3465{\sim}5.3877$ (C-7, J=9.5 Hz). The $^13C-NMR$ spectrum showed 18 carbon resonance signals including an overlapped signal at ${\delta}29.7002$ for C-12 and ${\delta}29.6520$ for C-13 (or they can be reversed), and other highly resolved signals at ${\delta}33.950$, ${\delta}24.558$, ${\delta}26.773$ and ${\delta}27.205$ due to C-2, C-3, C-5 and C-8 of a ${\Delta}^6-octadecenoic$ acid, respectively. From analysis results this unknown fatty acid could be identified as cis-6-octadecenoic acid. The seed oils of P. schinseng and A. sessiliflorus contained petroselinic acid (59.7%, 56.0%), oleic acid (18.3%, 6.1%) and linoleic acid (16.2%, 30.4%) with small amount of palmitic acid (3.0%, 3.1%) while the seed oil of A. continentalis comprised mainly oleic acid (30.2%), petroselinic acid (29.0%), linoleic acid (24.1%) and palmitic acid (13.1%).

  • Motivated by [Science in China (Ser. A Mathematics) 36 (2006), no. 7, 721?732], this article deals with the following discrete type BVP $\LARGE\left\{{{\;{\Delta}[{\phi}({\Delta}x(n))]\;+\;f(n,\;x(n\;+\;1),{\Delta}x(n),{\Delta}x(n + 1))\;=\;0,\;n\;{\in}\;[0,N],}}\\{\;{x(0)-{\sum}^m_{i=1}{\alpha}_ix(n_i) = A,}}\\{\;{x(N+2)-\;{\sum}^m_{i=1}{\beta}_ix(n_i)\;=\;B.}}\right.$ The sufficient conditions to guarantee the existence of at least three positive solutions of the above multi-point boundary value problem are established by using a new fixed point theorem obtained in [5]. An example is presented to illustrate the main result. It is the purpose of this paper to show that the approach to get positive solutions of BVPs by using multifixed-point theorems can be extended to treat nonhomogeneous BVPs. The emphasis is put on the nonlinear term f involved with the first order delta operator ${\Delta}$x(n).

  • The rate constants for the solvolysis reactions of p-methoxybenzylchloride in ethanol-water mixtures were determined at 2$^{\circ}$ and 10$^{\circ}C$ up to 1600bar. Rates of reaction were increased with increasing temperature and pressure, and decreased with increasing solvent composition of ethanol mole fraction. From the rate constants, the values of the activation parameters (${{\Delta}V_o}^{\neq},\;{\Delta}{\beta}^{\neq},\;{\Delta}H^{\neq},\;and\;{\Delta}S^{\neq}$) were evaluated. The values of ${{\Delta}V_o}^{\neq}$ and ${\Delta}{\beta}^{\neq}$ exhibit the extremum behavior at about 0.30 mole fraction of ethanol. This behavior is discussed in terms of solvent structure variation. From these results, it could be postulated that the reaction proceeds through $S_N1$ mechanism.

  • This paper proposes Swap algorithm for solving Dynamic Economic Dispatch (DED) problem. The proposed algorithm initially balances total load demand $P_d$ with total generation ${\Sigma}P_i$ by deactivating a generator with the highest unit generation cost $C_i^{max}/P_i^{max}$. It then swaps generation level $P_i=P_i{\pm}{\Delta}$, (${\Delta}$=1.0, 0.1, 0.01, 0.001) for $P_i=P_i-{\Delta}$, $P_j=P_j+{\Delta}$ provided that $_{max}[F(P_i)-F(P_i-{\Delta})]$ > $_{min}[F(P_j+{\Delta})-F(P_j)]$, $i{\neq}j$. This new algorithm is applied and tested to the experimental data of Dynamic Economic Dispatch problem, demonstrating a considerable reduction in the prevalent heuristic algorithm's optimal generation cost and in the maximization of economic profit.

  • This study was designed to determine the distribution of trans fatty acids (tFAs) isomers of Processed foods commonly consumed in Korea. The tFAs positional isomers were analyzed using GC/MS spectrometer with HP-23 cis/trans FAME, capillary column (50m $\times$ 0.20 mm, id., 0.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ film thickness) for 41 food samples. TFAs isomers were identified by comparing retention time with standards and GC/MS spectrum. In margarines, the content of tFAs ranged from 4.0% to 25.16% and the most abundant positional isomer of tFAs was C18:1 $\Delta$9t. In oils and fats, lards contained higher levels of tFAs (5.70~16.54%) than shortenings (6.77~10.55%). Shortenings contained higher levels of C18:1 $\Delta$9t (3.1~5.1%) than lard (1.6~4.3%), but corn oils had no tFAs. In seasonings, mayonnaise had no C16:1 $\Delta$9t, whereas C18:3t was detected. The content of tFAs in confectioneries was wide (16.20~52.16%). Among them, instant popcorns contained the highest amount of tFAs. Milk and dairy products showed even distribution of tFAS such as C18:1t, C18:2t, and C18:3t. Predominant tFAS isomer of condensed milk and ice cream was C16:1 $\Delta$9t. Frozen french fries and fried chicken contained higher levels of C18:1$\Delta$9t (9.4%), whereas grilled pork (jowl) had no C18:1 $\Delta$9t. The amount of tFAs per serving size was the highest in popcorn, followed by frozen pizza, frozen french fries, fried chicken, and bakeries.

  • To enhance the conversion speed more fast, we separate the determination process of MSB and LSB with the two independent ADC circuits of the Incremental Sigma Delta ADC. After the 1st Incremental Sigma Delta ADC conversion finished, the 2nd Incremental Sigma Delta ADC conversion start while the 1st Incremental Sigma Delta ADC work on the next input. By determining the MSB and the LSB independently, the ADC conversion speed is improved by two times better than the conventional Extended Counting Incremental Sigma Delta ADC. In processing the 2nd Incremental Sigma Delta ADC, the inverting sample/hold circuit inverts the input the 2nd Incremental Sigma Delta ADC, which is the output of switched capacitor integrator within the 1st Incremental Sigma Delta ADC block. The increased active area is relatively small by the added analog circuit, because the digital circuit area is more large than analog. In this paper, a 14 bit Extended Counting Incremental Sigma-Delta ADC is implemented in $0.25{\mu}m$ CMOS process with a single 2.5 V supply voltage. The conversion speed is about 150 Ksamples/sec at a clock rate of 25 MHz. The 1 MSB is 0.02 V. The active area is $0.50\;x\;0.35mm^{2}$. The averaged power consumption is 1.7 mW.

  • In this paper, we study asymptotic behaviour of solutions of the following higher order nonlinear dynamic equations $$S_n^{\Delta}(t,x)+{\delta}p(t)f(x(g(t)))=0$$ and $$S_n^{\Delta}(t,x)+{\delta}p(t)f(x(h(t)))=0$$ on an arbitrary time scale $\mathbb{T}$ with sup $\mathbb{T}={\infty}$, where n is a positive integer, ${\delta}=1$ or -1 and $$S_k(t,x)=\{\array x(t),\;if\;k=0,\\a_k(t)S_{{\kappa}-1}^{\Delta}(t),\;if\;1{\leq}k{\leq}n-1,\\a_n(t)[S_{{\kappa}-1}^{\Delta}(t)]^{\alpha},\;if\;k=n,$$ with ${\alpha}$ being a quotient of two odd positive integers and every $a_k$ ($1{\leq}k{\leq}n$) being positive rd-continuous function. We obtain some sufficient conditions for the equivalence of the oscillation of the above equations.
