  • This paper presents a sliding mode control(SMC) design method for single input linear systems with uncertainties and time delay in the state. We define a sliding surface for the augmented system with a virtual state which is defined from the nominal system. We make a virtual state from optimal control input using LOR(Linear Quadratic Regulator) and the states of the nominal system. We construct a controller that combines SMC with optimal controller. The proposed sliding mode controller stabilizes on the overall closed-loop system.

  • It is known that existence of irregular transmission time delay is a major bottleneck for application of advanced robot control schemes to internet telerobotic systems. In the internet teleoperation system, the irregular transmission time delay causes a critical problem, which is unstable and inaccurate. This paper suggests a practical internet teleoperation system with streaming buffer system, which consists of a buffer, a buffer manager, and a control timer.   • We propose a result on the stabilization of nonlinear time-delay systems via the feedback linearization method. Using the predictor based control and the parametric coordinate transformation, we introduce a stabilizing controller to compensate time delay.   • In this paper, a hybrid stabilization approach involving both passivity observer/passivity controller and wave variables is addressed to stabilize a teleoperation system with fixed time delay. To guarantee the stability of master or slave side, passivity observer/passivity controller are applied. But, passivity observer/passivity controller cannot deal with communication delay, and thus even small communication delay cause the system to be unstable. To cope with this problem, wave variables are additionally employed to have robustness to fixed communication delays. To show the validity of our proposed approach, several computer simulation results are illustrated.

  • The inevitable calculation time delay of digital controller especially degrades the voltage control performance of three-phase UPS systems. This paper proposes time delay compensators based on the Smith-predictor for both voltage and current controllers of three-level NPC inverters. The PSIM-based simulation results show that the proposed controller with delay compensator gives improved voltage control performance with respect to time delay.

  • An $H_2$ filter is derived for time delay systems, where there are time delay terms in the state and in the output. A method to compute the $H_2$ norm of time delay systems is proposed. Based on the $H_2$ norm computation method, an $H_2$ filter design is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem.

  • In this paper, we present a GP-PID(Generalized Predictive PID) controller which has the same structure as a generalized predictive control with steady-state weighting. The proposed controller can perform better than the conventional PID controller because it includes intrinsic delay-time compensator. The PID tuning parameters and delay-time compensator are calculated by equating the two degree of freedom PID to a linear form of GPC. The proposed controller is combined with a supervisor for safe start and self-tuning. GP-PID controller has been tested for various numerical models and an experimental stirred tank heater. As a result, it was observed that the proposed controller shows a satisfactory performance for variable delay as well as stochastic disturbance.

  • This paper presents the design methodology of digital fuzzy controller(DFC) for the systems with time-delay. We propose the fuzzy feedback controller whose output is delayed with unit sampling period and predicted. The analysis and the design problem considering time-delay become easy because the proposed controller is syncronized with the sampling time. The stabilization problem of the digital fuzzy system with time-delay is solved by linear matrix inequality(LMI) theory. Convex optimization techniques are utilized to solve the stable feedback gains and a common Lyapunov function for designed fuzzy control system. To show the effectiveness the proposed control scheme, the network control example is presented.

  • This paper deals with a sliding mode control with uncertainty adaptation for the robust stabilization of input-delay systems with unknown uncertainties. A sliding surface including a state predictor is employed to compensate for the effect of the input delay. The proposed method does not need a priori knowledge of upper bounds on the norm of uncertainties, but estimates those upper bounds by adaptation laws based on the sliding surface. Then, a robust control law with the uncertainty adaptation is derived to ensure the existence of the sliding mode. A numerical example is given to illustrate the design procedure.

  • Today, as the hierarchical cellular system is getting more attention than before, some recent studies introduce delay based admission control (AC) scheme which delays the admission to the macro-embedded small cell for a relatively short time to prevent unnecessary handover caused by the short-term visitors of the small cell area. In such delay based ACs, when we use improper delay parameter, the system frequently makes incorrect handover decisions such as where unnecessary handover is allowed due to too short delaying, or where necessary handover is denied due to too long delaying. In order to avoid these undesirable situations as much as possible, we develop a new delay parameter decision method based on probabilistic cell residence time approximations. By the extensive numerical and analytical evaluations, we determine the proper delay parameter which prevents the incorrect handover decision as much as possible. We expect our delay parameter decision method can be useful system administration tips in hierarchical cellular system where delay based AC is adopted.
