  • Laser melting problems with deformed substrates are investigated by axisymmetric numerical simulations. Source-based method is used to solve the energy equation, and the momentum equations are solved in the liquid domain with SIMPLER algorithm. Using a laser beam with a top-hat heat flux distribution, this study is performed to examine the effect of surface deformation, beam power density and surface tension force on the molten pool during laser melting. Surface temperature decreases with increasing surface deformation, while surface velocity increases. It is found that surface deformation, beam power density and surface tension force have a very significant effect on heat transfer and fluid flow during laser melting.

  • In this paper, the axial crush of the rectangular STS304 tube is analyzed using DYNA3D, and 10 models are tested under quasi-static load. The deformed shapes of analysis and test are present, and the analysis results are compared with the results of quasi-static test. This paper describes that free rotational boundary condition causes a very similar deformed shapes to expermental results, and using the elastic buclking modes as initial imperfecion shapes, the deformed shapes are very close to the experimental shapes.

  • The plastically deformed layer in a machined surface must be considered in precision machining process. Therefore the analysis of the machined surface, including the plastic deformation and strain distribution should be carried out quantitatively. The subsequent recrystallization technique was presented for analysis of the plastically deformed layer in the machined surface, and the technique was successfully applied to determine the plastic strain in the machined surface. This investigation is to evaluate the plastic strain in the distance 0.1mm from the machined surface, and in particular, to find the effect of shear angle, shear strain, cutting energy etc. on the plastic strain.

  • In order to see the effect of die deformation on the forming of sheet metal, the draw-ins, strains, and springbacks of an automotive fender panels are numerically simulated considering the die deformation found by the simultaneous structural analysis of press and dies. The comparison of the forming analysis result between the rigid die and the deformed die layout shows that the deformed tool provides more accurate forming and springback result.

  • The strip Au bumps are bonded using longitudinal ultrasonic far the electronic package. Au bumps on the chip and substrate are aligned in a crossed shape, and the ultrasonic is imposed on the chip to form the solid-state bond between the Au bumps. Deformed bump shapes are calculated using the finite element method, and the bond strength is measured experimentally. The crossed strip Au bumps are deformed similar to the saddle, which provides larger contact surface area and higher friction force. Compared with the previous bonding method between the Au bump and planar pad, higher bond strength is obtained using the crossed strip bumps.

  • Crosslink is the most important chemistry in a rubber vulcanizate. Degree and type of crosslinks of the vulcanizate determine its physical properties. Change of crosslink density and deformation of a rubber vulcanizate by thermal aging were studied using natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates with various cure systems (conventional, semi-EV, and EV) and different cure times (under-, optimum-, and overture). All the NR vulcanizates were deformed by the thermal aging at 60-100 $^{\circ}C.$ The higher the aging temperature is, the more degree of the deformation is. The undercured NR vulcanizates after the thermal aging were deformed more than the optimumand overcured ones. The NR vulcanizates with the EV cure system were less deformed than those with the conventional and semi-EV cure systems. The deformation of the NR vulcanizates was found to be due to change of the crosslink density of the vulcanizates. The crosslink densities of all the vulcanizates after the extraction of organic materials were also changed by the thermal ging. The sources to change the crosslink densities of the vulcanizates by the thermal aging were found to be dissociation of the existing sulfur crosslink and the formation of new crosslinks by free sulfur, reaction products of curing agents, and pendent sulfide groups.

  • This paper aims to present a new method for obtaining an analytical solution for the Kaniadakis Doppler broadening (KDB) function. Also, in this work, we report the computational efficiencies of this solution compared with the numerical one. The solution of the differential equation achieved in this paper is free of approximations and is, consequently, a more robust methodology for obtaining an analytical representation of ψk. Moreover, the results show an improvement in efficiency using the analytical approximation, indicating that it may be helpful in different applications that require the calculation of the deformed Doppler broadening function.

  • Geopolymer concrete (GPC) is one of the best substitute materials for conventional concrete in construction. The conventional concrete provided by Portland cement has a detrimental influence on the environment during its production. In this study, the bond strength, which is an important structural property, of deformed steel bars with slag-based GPC was measured. In accordance with the ASTM C234 procedure, bond strength was measured on 18 specimens of slag-based GPC with three sizes of steel bars and different embedded lengths. Two groups of GPC specimens with different compressive strengths, which were cured under ambient conditions, were tested. The results indicated that the bar diameter has a great effect on the bond strength, and the bond strength behavior of the slag-based GPC is comparable with that of conventional concrete. The ACI-318 Code for the bond strength of ordinary Portland cement concrete can be used conservatively to determine the bond strength of the GPC reinforced with deformed steel bars.
