  • Since aluminum alloys experience both tensile and compression deformation modes during forming process, it is important to understand the role of deformation mode on the hot formability of metallic alloys. In the present work, the hot formability of Al7050 alloy was investigated by conducting both tensile and Gleeble tests at various temperatures and strain rates. Processing maps representing low efficiency regions were observed at low temperature and high strain rate in both tensile and compressive deformation modes while the maximum efficiency regions depended on different deformation modes. Moreover, samples tested at stable processing conditions presented a smaller pore fraction than those at instable conditions that resulted in crack initiation during plastic deformation. This result shows that different deformation modes during plastic forming can affect formability changes of metallic alloys. Understanding of tension-compression behaviors will help us solve this problem.

  • Time series analysis is a frequently effective method of constructing model and prediction in data processing of deformation monitoring. The monitoring data sample must to be as more as possible and time intervals are equal roughly so as to construct time series model accurately and achieve reliable prediction. But in the project practice of GPS deformation monitoring, the monitoring data sample can't be obtained too much and time intervals are not equal because of being restricted by all kinds of factors, and it contains many variates in the deformation model moreover. It is very important to study the data processing method for small samples and multi-variates time series in GPS deformation monitoring. A new method of establishing small samples and multi-variates deformation model and prediction model are put forward so as to resolve contradiction of small samples and multi-variates encountered in constructing deformation model and improve formerly data processing method of deformation monitoring. Based on the system theory, a deformation body is regarded as a whole organism; a time-dependence linear system model and a time-dependence bilinear system model are established. The dynamic parameters estimation is derived by means of prediction fit and least information distribution criteria. The final example demonstrates the validity and practice of this method.

  • High temperature deformation behavior of AZ31 Mg alloy was investigated in this study on the basis of a processing map $(\varepsilon\approx0.6)$. To construct a processing map, compression tests were carried out at wide range of temperatures and strain rates $(T=250\~500^{\circ}C,\;\varepsilon=10^{-4}\~100/s)$. Two regions of high deformation efficiency $(\eta)$ were identified as: (1) a dynamic recrystalization (DRX) domain at $250^{\circ}C$ and 1/s and (2) a superplasticity domain at $450^{\circ}C$ and $10^{-4}/s$. Possible deformation mechanisms operating at high temperature were discussed in relation to the activation energy. A two-stage deformation method was found to be effective in enhancing the superplasticity of AZ31 Mg alloy. From the two-stage deformation method, tensile elongation of $1200\%$ was obtained at the superplastic domain.

  • The high temperature deformation behavior of Al 5083 alloy has been studied in the temperature range of 350 to 520 ${\circ}C$ and strain rate range of 0.2 to 3.0/sec by torsion test. The strain rate sensitivity(m) of the material was evaluated and used for estabilishing power dissipation maps following the dynamic material model. These maps show the variation of efficiency of power dissipation(${\eta}$=2m/(2m+1)) with temperature and strain rate. Hot restoration of dynamic recrystallization (DRX) was analyzed from the flow curve, deformed microstructure, and processing maps during hot deformation. Also, the effect of deformation strain on the efficiency of power dissipation of the alloy was analysed using the processing maps. Moreover relationship between the hot-ductility and efficiency of power dissipation of the alloy depending on thmperature and strain rate was studied using the Zener-Hollomon parameter(Z=${\varepsilon}$exp(Q/RT) It is found that the maximum efficiency of power dissipation for DRX in Al 5083 alloy is about 74.6 pct at the strain of 0.2. The strain rate and temperature at which the efficiency peak occurred in the DRX domain is found to be ∼0.1/sec and ∼450${\circ}C$ respectively.

  • In this present study, an attempt was made to determine the deformation mode of the Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be bulk metallic glass by compression test over a wide range of temperatures and strain rates. From the results, empirical deformation map could be constructed including the boundaries of different deformation modes. Considering power dissipation map and instability map developed on the basis of the Dynamic Materials Model (DMM), the processing map for extrusion could also be constructed. In addition, the macroscopic formability of this BMG alloy has also been examined through the extrusion in laboratory scale within undercooled liquid state. From the results of macroscopic extrusion formability, both deformation map and processing map present good criteria to determine optimal forming conditions.

  • Hot deformation behavior of a carbon steel (A350 LF2) was characterized by compression tests in the temperature range of $800-1250^{\circ}C$ and the strain rate range of $0.001-10s^{-1}$, The microstructural evolution during hot compression was investigated and deformation mechanisms were analyzed by constructing a deformation processing map. Processing maps were generated using the combination of dynamic material model (DMM) and flow instability theories based on the flow stability criteria and Ziegler's instability criterion. In order to evaluate the reliability of the map, the mirostructural characteristics of the hot compressed specimens were correlated with test conditions in the stable and unstable regime. The combined microstructural and processing map of A350 LF2 was applied to predict an optimum condition and unstable regions for hot forming.

  • Compression deformation behaviors at high temperature as a function of temperature and strain rate were investigated in the 6061 aluminum alloy, which is used for automobile wheel. Compression tests were carried out in the range of temperatures $300{\sim}475^{\circ}C$ and strain rate $10^{-3}{\sim}10^{-1}sec^{-1}$. By analyzing these results, strain rate sensitivity, deformation temperature sensitivity, the efficiency of power dissipation, Ziegler's instability criterion, etc were calculated, which were plastic deformation instability parameters as suggested by Ziegler, Malas, etc. Furthermore, deformation processing map was drawn by introducing dynamic materials model (DMM) and Ziegler's Continuum Criteria. This processing map was evaluated by relating the deformation instability conditions and the real microstructures. As a result, the optimum forging condition for the automobile wheel with the 6061 aluminum alloy was designed at temperature $450^{\circ}C$, strain rate $1.0{\times}10^{-1}sec^{-1}$. It was also confirmed by DEFORM finite element analysis tool with simulation process.

  • Plate-shaped works are one of the materials that can be applied to the entire industry due to their various shapes and sizes. Plate-shaped parts workpieces are thin and wide, and when processing is completed, they are often bent or deformed in various directions, making it difficult to produce normal products. In particular, this study intends to study the processing deformation and distortion of plate-shaped parts fastened to the jig during milling processing. In this study, a method for preventing deformation occurring in plate-shaped parts was derived through jig element change and CAE analysis, and this was applied to actual processing to produce products with stable dimensions. Through a finite element analysis experiment, it was found that installing two supports on the back of the plate-shaped part results in minimal deformation and the optimal distance between the two supports is 150 mm. Through this experiment, when processing a thin plate product, a support was installed in a direction opposite to the cutting force applied to the thin plate to prevent deformation of the product, thereby improving defects.

  • Due to extremely large reduction of area or extrusion ratio in ordinary production of extruded profiles, anisotropy is naturally induced by large severe deformation during the extrusion process. Therefore, the anisotropic properties play a great role in the post processing of extruded profiles, such as in bending. Moreover, undesirable deformation will be involved when the deformation-induced anisotropy is ignored. In order to observe the deformation-induced anisotropy of the thin-walled product, the proposed algorithm is applied to some chosen industrial extrusion processes. In the present work, the method for prediction of deformation-induced anisotropy employing the Barlats six-component yield potential to the rigid-plastic finite element method is proposed. The proposed algorithm is verified with the comparison to the crystallographic texture analysis, and then applied to the C-section extrusion process using a square die. The predicted anisotropy is then compared with the experimental and computational observations for validating the proposed algorithm.
