  • An upper bound elemental technique(UBET) is applied to predict forging load and die-cavity filling for non-axisymmetric ring forging. The finial product is divided into three different deformation regions. That is axisymmetric part in corner, lateral plane-strain part and shear deformation on boundaries between them. The plane-strain and axisymmetric part are combinded by building block method. Also the total energy is computered through combination of three deformation part. Experiments have been carried out with pure plasticine billets at room temperature. The theoretical predictions of the forging load and the flow pattern are in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • Nanoimprint lithography(NIL) is an emerging technology enabling cost-effective and high-throughput nanofabrication. Among NILs, significant efforts from both academia and industry have been put in UV NIL research and development because of its ability to pattern at room temperature and at low pressure. In UV NIL, there may be in-line set-up error of the stamp and the substrate. To compensate this error, the dummy blocks are put on the stamp and pressurized uniformly. Contact problems between the stamp and the photoresist layer on the substrate are often happened, which results in the non-uniform residual layer In this paper, the pressurization method on the dummy block is investigated by the finite element method. A new method is recommended and evaluated far the uniform stamp deformation.

  • Thermal deformation of Digital Television effect friction noise directly. However there was no methods to find and to solve the thermal friction noise which is huge problem in Digital Television In this study, to figure out occurrence cause of friction noise of the product, we measured thermal deformation of the product to organize a triggering device united with Laser Doppler Vibrometer(LDV) which turned occurrence moment of thermal friction noise into a possibility to measure. In conclusion, we could offer an effective information of design, and ensured ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) measure technique which is more detailed than the past way.

  • Phase-measuring deflectometry is a full-field gradient measuring technique that lends itself very well to testing specular optical surfaces. We have measured deformation of a large specular surface by deflectometry. In this work, we have used a Fourier-transform method to get the phase from a measured deformed fringe pattern, and we have used least squares method to obtain the height information of the specular surface from the calculated slope. Experimentally, we have confirmed that deflectometry can be used for deformation measurement of a specular surface like that of a wafer.

  • Membrane structures, a kind of lightweight soft structural system, are used for spatial structures. The material property of the membrane has strong axial stiffness, but little bending stiffness. The design procedure of membrane structures are needed to do shape finding, stress-deformation analysis and cutting pattern generation. In shape finding, membrane structures are unstable structures initially. These soft structures need to be introduced initial stresses because of its initial unstable state, and happen large deformation phenomenon. Therefore, in this study, to find the structural shape after large deformation caused by initial stress, we need the shape analysis considering geometric nonlinear term. And we investigate the evaluation of shape analysis technique's convergence and efficiency according to the control method

  • In analyzing the axisymmetric backward extrusion process a new method of analysis using upper-bound theorem is proposed in which the plastic zone and dead metal zone cam be predicted. Experiments are carried out with commercial aluminum. The metal flow on the meridional plane has been visualized experimentally by using the gridded specimens. It is shown that the theoretical results both in extrusion load and deformation pattern are in good agreement with the experimental results and they can be used for effective punch and die design to consider various process parameters in axisymmetric backward extrusion.

  • Socheong island is a unique island containing Precambrian stromatolites in South Korea. Most of Socheong stromatolites are domes and columns, occurring as 10 cm to 1 m thick stromatolite beds. Lower parts of the stromatolite beds are predominantly composed of domes, but columns increase toward the upper level of stromatolite beds. In many of the stromatolite beds, inclined columns are easily identifiable, which is generally considered as a result of heliotropism. From general lithology, sedimentary structures, inclined angles and distributional pattern, and structural deformation of sedimentary rocks of Socheong island, the inclination of Socheong stromatolites could be better interpreted as a secondary structural deformation probably after formation of stromatolite columns, rather than as a result of heliotropism. However, at this moment, we do not clearly reject heliotropism interpretation for inclined columns of Socheong stromatolites. This is because the original position of stromatolite columns could have been lost if structural deformation had affected the whole sedimentary rocks of Socheong island.

  • We report the results of structural field observation and measurement of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) of the diamictitic Hwanggangri Formation distributed in Chungju-Suanbo area of the Okchon Belt, Korea. The outcrops of the Hwanggangri Formation show two types of cleavage in general: slaty cleavage (SI) and crenulation cleavage (5z). 5] cleavage is, however, well observable only in the notheastem (NE) part of study area, while overwhelmed by 52 cleavage in the southwestern (5W) part, indicating stronger later deformation in 5W part of the study area. This partitioning of the study area is corroborated by both IRM and AMS parameters: NE part of the study area is characterized by higher IRM intensity, higher bulk magnetic susceptibility, higher AM5 degree, and by oblate shape of magnetic susceptibility ellipsoid. Their values become drastically lowered toward southwest, and reach to a stable minimum in the whole 5W part of the study area. In addition, degree of both metamorphism and deformation tends to increase gradually from northeast toward southwest and also from northwest toward southeast in the study area. Based on the distribution pattern of the principal axes ( $k_1, k_2, k_3$ axes) of magnetic anisotropy ellipsoids revealed in the NE part of the study area, three episodes of deformation ( $D_1, D_2, D_3$ ) are recognized: D_1$ deformation produced $S_2$ cleavage with NE-5W trend, which is caused by a strong NW-SE tlattening of a coaxial pure shear. $D_2$ deformation produced 5z cleavage characterized by a non-coaxial deformation. It was caused by a ductile or semi-ductile thrusting toward NW and concurrent sinistral shearing along $S_2$ cleavage plane. Lastly, $D_3$ deformation produced tlexural folding of all previous structures with a nearly horizontal NE fold axis. Distribution pattern of the principal axes of magnetic anisotropy ellipsoid from the SW part of the study area, on the other hand, does not show any coherency among sites or samples. We interpret that this dispersed pattern of $k_1, k_2, k_3$ axes together with lower anisotropy strength indicates that magnetic fabrics in the SW part have been disturbed either by a superposition of strong deformation/metamorphism or by a kind of reciprocal strain due to an overlapping of $D_1$ and $D_2$ or by both processes.

  • In order to cope with the requirements of smaller patterns, larger surfaces and lower costs in the fields of displays, optics and energy, greater attentions are now being paid to the development of micro-pattern machining technology. Compared with flat moulds, large drums with micro patterns (roll moulds) have the advantages of short delivery, ease of manufacturing larger surfaces, and continuous moulding. This paper introduced the machining process technology of the roll moulds for display industry. The environmental effects were discussed and the importance of temperature maintenance was experimentally emphasized. The real time monitoring system for micro machining was introduced. A commercial solution was used to simulate the micro grooving and a deformation model of micro machined pattern was finally introduced.

  • In this study, Rock deformation at the artificially advanced face was investigated by using the finite element code relating to the split blasting conducted in urban area. The maximum principal strain according to the detonation pattern and the detonation delay time at the rock surface was compared with the modeled blast section. As a result, it was found that the maximum principal strain was observed a difference depending on the detonation pattern at the rock surface, and the detonation delay time was an important parameter in split blasting.
