A Study on Sample Frequency Channel Selection of Near-Field Receiving Measurement for the Active Phased Array Antenna for Mono-Pulse Accuracy (모노펄스 정확도를 위한 능동배열위상레이다의 근접전계 수신시험 표본 주파수 채널 선택에 대한 연구)

  • It is essential for the near-field receiving measurement to make beam pattern and check the performance of a active phased array antenna system. Also, we could obtain compensation value for mono-pulse function through the near-field receive test, however, if the radar has many frequency channel, the test would take long time and hard effort. So it is needed that frequency channels are selected for measurement and calculates the values for other frequency channels to improve efficiency in development and manufacture. In this case, the phase variations in sum and del channels would be checked. The phase measurement includes un-linear characteristic because of wrapping effect. Generally, radars have similar path length in sum and del channel, but if a radar has a electrical length gap between sum and del channel, errors could occur by phase's wrapping effect. In this paper, the interpolation method's error caused by electrical length gap is checked and the effective method for frequency channel selection to avoid wrapping effect is introduced.

Effect of Selenium on the Thyroid gland Antioxidative Metabolisms in Rat Model by Ionizing Radiation (셀레늄이 전리방사선에 의한 힌쥐 모델에서의 갑상선 항산화계에 미치는 영향)

  • Selenium (Se), which is natural materials existing was known as an important component of selenoprotein, one of the important proteins responsible for the redox pump of a living body. Selenium was orally administered to Rat and irradiated with 10 Gy of radiation. Then, the thyroid gland was used as a target organ for 1 day, 7 days and 21 days to investigate the radiation protection effect of selenium (Se) through changes of blood components, thyroid hormones (T3, T4), antioxidant enzyme (GPx) activity and thyroid tissue changes. As a result, there was a significant protective effect of hematopoietic immune system(hemoglobin concentration, neutrophil, platelet)(p<0.05). The activity of Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx), the antioxidant enzyme, and the activity of the target organ, thyroid hormone (T3, T4), also showed significant activity changes (p<0.05). In the observation of tissue changes, it was confirmed that there was a protective effect of thyroid cell damage which caused the cell necrosis by radiation treatment. Therefore, it is considered that selenium(Se) can be utilized as a radiation defense agent by inducing immunogenic activity effect of a living body.

Determination of Interaction Parameter χ of the 1,2,3-Triazole Crosslinked Polymer (1,2,3-트리아졸 폴리머의 상호계수 χ의 결정)

  • The crosslinking density of polymer can be quantitatively calculated by the Flory-Rehner equation using the swelling experimental data and the lattice constant ${\beta}_1$ of interaction parameter (${\chi}$) in this equation should be chosen have used cautiously. This ${\beta}_1$ is the experimental data by rule of thumb, and researchers have used little different values respectively. Generally, the average molecular weight between crosslink points $M_c$ in the Flory-Rehner equation and the Mooney-Rivlin equation have the same value, and ${\beta}_1$ can be calculated when the $M_c$ in the Flory-Rehner equation is given. Therefore, in this research, firstly we calculated the $M_c$ using the selected ${\beta}_1$ (=0.34) and the swelling experimental data of 1,2,3-triazole polymer from the Flory-Rehner equation, secondly the $M_c$ from the Mooney-Rivlin equation is calculated by the tensile experimental data, and finally two $M_c$ were compared. As a result, two $M_c$ values were almost the same, and it was proved that the ${\beta}_1$ (=0.34) was selected properly.

Design of X-Band High Efficiency 60 W SSPA Module with Pulse Width Variation (펄스 폭 가변을 이용한 X-대역 고효율 60 W 전력 증폭 모듈 설계)

  • In this paper, X-band 60 W Solid-State Power Amplifier with sequential control circuit and pulse width variation circuit for improve bias of SSPA module was designed. The sequential control circuit operate in regular sequence drain bias switching of GaAs FET. The distortion and efficiency of output signals due to SSPA nonlinear degradation is increased by making operate in regular sequence the drain bias wider than that of RF input signals pulse width if only input signal using pulsed width variation. The GaAs FETs are used for the 60 W SSPA module which is consists of 3-stage modules, pre-amplifier stage, driver-amplifier stage and main-power amplifier stage. The main power amplifier stage is implemented with the power combiner, as a balanced amplifier structure, to obtain the power greater than 60 W. The designed SSPA modules has 50 dB gain, pulse period 1 msec, pulse width 100 us, 10 % duty cycle and 60 watts output power in the frequency range of 9.2~9.6 GHz and it can be applied to solid-state pulse compression radar using pulse SSPA.

Analysis of the Gate Bias Effects of the Cascode Structure for Class-E CMOS Power Amplifier (CMOS Class-E 전력증폭기의 Cascode 구조에 대한 게이트바이어스 효과 분석)

  • In this study, we analyzed the effects of the common-gate transistor bias of a switching mode CMOS power amplifier. Although the most earier works occured on the transistor sizes of the cascode structure, we showed that the gate bias of the common-gate transistor also influences the overall efficiency of the power amplifier. To investigate the effect of the gate bias, we analyzed the DC power consumption according to the gate bias and hence the efficiency of the power amplifier. From the analyzed results, the optimized gate bias for the maximum efficiency is lower than the supply voltage of the power amplifier. We also found that an excessively low gate bias may degrade the output power and efficiency owing to the effects of the on-resistance of the cascode structure. To verify the analyzed results, we designed a 1.9 GHz switching mode power amplifier using $0.18{\mu}m$ RF CMOS technology. As predicted in the analysis, the maximum efficiency is obtained at 2.5 V, while the supply voltage of power amplifier is 3.3 V. The measured maximum efficiency is 31.5 % with an output power of 29.1 dBm. From the measureed results, we successfully verified the analysis.

Fire Protection Regulations for Ensuring Fire Safety during Decommissioning Nuclear Power Plants in Korea (해체원전 화재안전 확보를 위한 화재방호 규정 고찰)

  • Nuclear power plants (NPPs) in Korea are required to be maintained using a defense in-depth approach to prevent leakage of radioactive substances outside the plant and allow safe shutdown in the event of a fire. Periodic testing must be conducted to ensure that the fire protection facilities perform as required by the laws for various nuclear reactor types. In June 2017, for the first time in Korea, a nuclear plant, Kori Unit 1, was permanently shut down. It was prepared for decommissioning in accordance with the fire protection regulations imposed by the regulatory body. However, a standard protocol is necessary for systematically establishing the fire protection program for decommissioning of NPPs in the future. Therefore, the nuclear legal systems of countries with many operating nuclear power plants, such as the United States, Japan, Canada, and various European countries, were reviewed and guidelines for establishing a fire protection program for decommissioning NPPs was suggested; the fire protection requirements stated by Reg Guide 1.191 (Decommissioning fire protection program for NPPs during decommissioning and permanent shutdown) were used as a model. Suggestions for establishing legal regulations to optimize fire protection programs and secure basic technology for decommissioning NPPs were also made.

  • In this paper, a phased array antenna based on thin-film dielectric technology at 60 GHz is designed. In order to reduce dividing/combining loss and avoid high loss of phase shifters, Rotman Lens has been employed as a feeder of antenna. The lens has 3 beam ports and 5 array ports with 2 dummy ports. The simulation for the design was performed by simulator using MoM(method of moments). The measured results of fabricated lens show magnitude deviation less than ${\pm}2dB$ and phase aberration less than ${\pm}5^{\circ}$ over $58{\sim}62GHz$. The antenna shows ${\pm}7^{\circ}$ of scan angles.

Top-down Hierarchical Clustering using Multidimensional Indexes (다차원 색인을 이용한 하향식 계층 클러스터링)

  • Due to recent increase in applications requiring huge amount of data such as spatial data analysis and image analysis, clustering on large databases has been actively studied. In a hierarchical clustering method, a tree representing hierarchical decomposition of the database is first created, and then, used for efficient clustering. Existing hierarchical clustering methods mainly adopted the bottom-up approach, which creates a tree from the bottom to the topmost level of the hierarchy. These bottom-up methods require at least one scan over the entire database in order to build the tree and need to search most nodes of the tree since the clustering algorithm starts from the leaf level. In this paper, we propose a novel top-down hierarchical clustering method that uses multidimensional indexes that are already maintained in most database applications. Generally, multidimensional indexes have the clustering property storing similar objects in the same (or adjacent) data pares. Using this property we can find adjacent objects without calculating distances among them. We first formally define the cluster based on the density of objects. For the definition, we propose the concept of the region contrast partition based on the density of the region. To speed up the clustering algorithm, we use the branch-and-bound algorithm. We propose the bounds and formally prove their correctness. Experimental results show that the proposed method is at least as effective in quality of clustering as BIRCH, a bottom-up hierarchical clustering method, while reducing the number of page accesses by up to 26~187 times depending on the size of the database. As a result, we believe that the proposed method significantly improves the clustering performance in large databases and is practically usable in various database applications.

A study on the comparative test of chemical and thermal properties of virgin and recycled PET products (버진 및 리사이클 PET 제품의 화학적·열적 특성 비교시험에 관한 연구)

  • As the interest and demand in the recycled yarn field has increased rapidly worldwide, domestic companies are also promoting research and development and business on recycled yarn. The chemical and thermal properties of four types of virgin and recycled PET samples from A and B company, which are the leading domestic companies in the recycled polyester yarn business, were confirmed through infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Virgin and recycled PET from two companies were compared. FT-IR spectroscopy revealed the typical spectra of PET for both companies and a different peak at 872 cm-1. DSC confirmed that the melting point and crystallization temperature of recycled PET were lower than those of virgin PET. These results indicate that small amounts of contaminants are an important parameter affecting the thermal properties of recycled PET. In the DSC results after seven repeats of the heating and cooling processes, all four samples showed that a lower melting point, crystallization temperature, and low heat flow intensity increased with increasing number of cycles. The results of melting and crystallization enthalpy also showed similar patterns.

Application of Depth Resolution and Sensitivity Distribution of Electrical Resistivity Tomography to Modeling Weathered Zones and Land Creeping (전기비저항 깊이분해능 및 감도분포: 풍화층 및 땅밀림 모델에 대한 적용)

  • Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) is a traditional and representative geophysical method for determining the resistivity distributions of surrounding soil and rock volumes. Depth resolution profiles and sensitivity distribution sections of the resistivities with respect to various electrode configurations are calculated and investigated using numerical model data. Shallow vertical resolution decreases in the order of Wenner, Schlumberger, and dipole-dipole arrays. A high investigable depth in homogeneous medium is calculated to be 0.11-0.19 times the active electrode spacing, but is counterbalanced by a low vertical resolution. For the application of ERT depth resolution profiles and sensitivity distributions, we provide subsurface structure models for two types of land-creping failure (planar and curved), subvertical fracture, and weathered layer over felsic and mafic igneous rocks. The dipole-dipole configuration appears to be most effective for mapping land-creeping failure planes (especially for curved planes), whereas the Wenner array gives the best resolution of soil horizons and shallow structures in the weathered zone.
