M4 Semi-Freejet Test with Full-scale Vehicle Model (실기체급 비행체 모델에 대한 M4 준자유류 시험)

  • Investigation on operation of the test apparatus for the M4 semi-freejet tests with a full-scale vehicle model was carried out utilizing domestic facilities. An integrated design of the experimental apparatus and the vehicle model was obtained through iterative computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. The test results showed that the M4 nozzle of the apparatus was fully expanded to provide required test conditions. It was also found that the intake of the vehicle model successfully started, and the corresponding shadowgraph images were recorded during the test. A variable nozzle of the model was set to adjust the back pressure of the model combustor, and wall-static pressures were measured to obtain the pressure distribution at the main locations of the model. The flame of torch ignitors and pilot fuel ignition were observed in a flame-holder of the combustor.

  • There are many type vehicles in army. They are jeep and truck by basic type. Recently many countries are developing new conceptual military vehicles. And they try for export of those military vehicles to another countries. Also Korea Army is developing military tactical and combat vehicles, and considering various necessary factors for export. But as easing the cold war system tension and reducing of defense budget, decrease in quantity of military vehicles. We think this trend is accelerative. Therefore Government(Military) and defense industry make every effort to increasing sales and productions. In this study, I'll inquire '2013~2017 basic plan for defense industry promotion' for strengthen the power of international competitiveness, and then suggest the increasing method for productions of military vehicles.

  • Application of system engineering should be realized on necessary condition being to propel National Defense R&D Program. But, these necessity is yet not realized easily to many project managers of Defense Acquisition Program Administration(DAPA). As one person of DAPA project manager, system engineering hard to approaches easily by the word itself. There are a lot of difficult sections where should apply how. This paper established DAPA Project Manager and Acquisition Point of Contact of demand Military by main customer (reader), and wished to make understood more easily and approach system engineering application to these. Also, this paper studied project management example that scientific project management techniques of Earned Value Management(EVM) and Cost As an Independent Variable(CAIV) etc. is taken abuzz in DAPA inside by Project management technique that become reform, arc Integrated in system engineering.

  • Air Defense Command Control and Alert(ADC2A) system is a system that ensures simultaneity and integrity of air defense operations by combining sensors, weapons and Command and Control(C2) systems over a tactical network to protect forces, facilities and strategic points from enemy's air attack. Improving message processing speed is a very important factor for ADC2A, because it uses high frequency bit-processing of the Army standard KVMF message to communicate with internal and external systems. In this paper we proposed improved method of KVMF message processing for ADC2A system.

  • The 3D printing technology took the second place within the top ten rising technologies at the World Economic Forum in 2012. It arose as a core technology that would enable transformation in the manufacturing industry and develop new markets through the change of existing industry paradigms. Leading countries, like the United States of America, are actively expanding the use of 3D printing technologies within their defense areas. In order to utilize the technology within her defense areas, the Republic of Korea is planning to acquire defense spare parts manufacturing technologies and nurture professional defense personnel specializing in the 3D printing technology. Hence, this study offers various methods to efficiently apply reliable 3D printing spare parts to operation fields in the future by utilizing spare parts localization development management methods within existing weapon systems' development, manufacturing and sustainment phases.

  • Purpose: Recent weapon systems in defense have increased the complexity and importance of software when developing multifunctional equipment. In this study, we analyze the accuracy of the proposed software reliability model when applied to weapon systems. Methods: Determine the similarity between software reliability analysis results (prediction/estimation) utilizing data from developing weapon systems and system failures data during operation of weapon systems. Results: In case of a software reliability prediction model, the predicted failure rate was higher than the actual failure rate, and the estimation model was consistent with actual failure history data. Conclusion: The software prediction model needs to adjust the variables that are appropriate for the domestic weapon system environment. As the reliability of software is increasingly important in the defense industry, continuous efforts are needed to ensure accurate reliability analysis in the development of weapon systems.

  • In this paper, a subminiature solid rocket motor(SSRM) was designed to develop a miniature smart-bullet and the designed propellant grain was made of thermoplastic propellant for production convenience of inner shape. The internal ballistics analysis and ground test were performed to investigate the performance of SSRM. And a numerical simulation was carried out to obtain basic data on the design of safety distance between the nozzle outlet and a gunner, the temperature distribution of exhaust gas was analyzed by comparing a numerical simulation and the results of IR camera.

Study on the Ku band Solid-State Power Amplifier(SSPA) through the 40 W-grade High Power MMIC Development and the Combination of High Power Modules (40 W급 고출력 MMIC 개발과 고출력 증폭기 모듈 결합을 통한 Ku 밴드 반도체형 송신기(SSPA) 개발에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, to substitute the existing TWTA(Travailing Wave Tube Amplifier) component in small radar system, we developed the Ku band SSPA(Solid-State Power Amplifier) based on the fabrication of power MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) chips. For the development of the 500 W SSPA, the 40 W-grade power MMIC was designed by ADS(Advanced Design System) at Keysight company with UMS GH015 library, and was processed by UMS foundry service. And 70 W main power modules were achieved the 2-way T-junction combiner method by using the 40 W-grade power MMICs. Finally, the 500 W SSPA was fabricated by the wave guide type power divider between the drive power amplifier and power modules, and power combiner with same type between power modules and output port. The electrical properties of this SSPA had 504 W output power, -58.11 dBc spurious, 1.74 °/us phase variation, and -143 dBm/Hz noise level.

A Study of T/R Module Output Compensation Method for Active Synthetic Aperture Radar (능동형 SAR 시스템의 송수신 모듈 출력 보정 방법 연구)

  • In this paper, a compensation method of the amplitude and phase errors from the T/R(Transmit/Receive) modules in an active SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) system is introduced. The errors are defined and classified, and characterized by analyzing the measurement data acquired from the pilot test. To compensate these errors, a control methodology of T/R modules output is proposed. Before the compensation is applied, 16 T/R modules integrated on the active SAR antenna show the amplitude in 28.2~29.0 dBm and the phase in $101.7^{\circ}{\sim}165.2^{\circ}$. After the compensation, the amplitude and phase are distributed in 27.4~28.0 dBm and $116.1^{\circ}{\sim}120.0^{\circ}$ respectively. The antenna beam patterns generated by the array theory with the distributions are compared, and the proposed method is verified as good to apply for the active SAR system.

  • This note suggests three approaches to improve reliability in developing weapon systems. The high complexity of the weapon systems make it hard to analyze and predict of those reliability. Current situations of the reliability have been reviewed in terms of logistics support analysis (LSA), warranty policy, maintenance and development. Three suggestions are notified to improve the reliability considering the complexity of the weapon systems.
