This experimemt was conducted to determine the effect of ridge-up bed with different height (0, 20, 40, 60 cm) on the fruit quality of 'Miyagawa Wase' satsuma mandarin cultivated in a plastic film house. Soil moisture was measured at the soil depths of 10, 30, and 60 cm for each height of ridge-up bed. The time required to reach the condition, -1.4 Mpa at 30 cm deep in soils, which are supposed to be the ideal soil moisture potential and soil depth for high quality satsuma mandarin production, was 100, 60, and 30 days for 20, 40, and 60 cm ridge-up bed, respectively, and more than 100 days for 0 cm. Peel chromaticity by 'a' value was increased as the ridge-up height went up, so that plants grown at the bed with 60 cm height had 11 degree higher value than those of plants grown at the bed with 0 cm height. The 'a/b' values also had a similiar trend as value 'a'. The reducing sugar level of the fruit juice, which was composed of glucose and fructose, was increased as the height of ridge went up, showing significant difference between the ridge heights. The sucrose level had the same trend as the reducing sugar level although the difference between the ridge heights were not significant. Generally, the soluble solid level is considered to be representing the fruit quality. It had 11.4, 12.1, 12.5, $12.8^{\circ}Brix$ for 0, 20, 40, and 60 cm ridge-ups, respectively, showing $1.4^{\circ}Brix$ difference between 0 and 60 cm ridges. Acidity basically showed the same result as that of the soluble solid level depending on the height of the ridges.

It is throwing the spotlight on the cultivation crops about high quality crops and productivity improvement per unit area because of rapid climate change caused by global warming. Therefore, we propose a water culture management of circulation nutrient method control system applies to solar tracking method not using traditional method of deep flow technique and artificial light source. We design it in the form of the circulation nutrient method in waterway of a certain amount of nutrient solution and water flowed into the way of circular. In addition, we design a multistage structure in pyramid shape which be possible continuous photosynthesis action to crops of water culture bottom part. Also, solar tracking method is designed five sensor method of center hole sensor method for tracking shadow of solar light not using traditional two hole, four hole sensor method. Finally, through the water culture device applies to solar light tracking method was not introduced in existing study yet, we can reduce growth speed of crops which be possible continuous photosynthesis action to crops. Moreover, We can expect high productivity of per unit area which be possible all crops can be offered growth environment of same type by using form of pyramid shape of multistage structure without top or bottom part.
Sagittaria pygmaea Miquel is widely infested and is the most dominant perennial weed in paddy field in Korea. This study was carried out in order to clarify the factors influencing tuber production and the competition ecology. The tuberization capacity in the paddy field transplanted with the small seedlings of rice was higher than in the paddy field transplanted with the vigor seedlings of rice. The stage which rice plants were most damaged by S. pygmaea plants was the period from 31 to 37 days after transplanting. According to the increasing of Eleocharis acicularis Roem. in the condition of rice cultivation, the number of S. pygmaea plants was remarkably reduced. Small size tubers planted within deep soil produced less tubers than large size tubers did. The number of plants and tubers were remarkably increased under the high levels of fertilization. Phosphorus was essential as well as nitrogen for tuberization. And the tuberization capapcity was different with the organic matter content in soil and with the soil moisture.
This work was conducted to investigate the field growth and yield of the sweetpotato (Ipomoea batatas) slips grown under different light emitting diodes (LEDs). Sweet potato cuttings of 3 cultivars ('Matnami', 'Shinhwangmi', and 'Yeonhwangmi') were cultivated under fluorescent lamp (FL) and several LEDs (PPF $150{\pm}5{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$ at 20cm distance) in deep flow culture system for 20 days. The plants were acclimatized under sunlight for 10 days, and then cuttings (30cm length) were planted with $75{\times}25cm$ planting density on June 10th, covered with black vinyl film during growth period. Length and diameter of vine, number of root were excellent in the red plus blue (7:3) LED than the other treatments. At 30 days after planting, the survival rate in red plus blue (7:3) LED was significantly higher than that in FL and red LED, and it was not different among cultivars. Vine length, vine diameter, and number of node were not significant among LED light qualities and cultivars. After 120 days in the field cultivation, vine length, vine diameter, number of node, number of branch, and fresh weight of shoot were not significant among LED light qualities, but those except the number of branch showed significant differences among cultivars. Yield characteristics among LED light colors were not significant, but weight of storage root per plant, mean weight of storage root, and yield showed significant differences among cultivars. The yield per 10a in 'Matnami', and 'Yeonhwangmi' was significantly higher than that in 'Shinhwangmi'.
To reduce the injury by continuous cropping of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam.), the farmer's plant and virus-free plant were cultivated with the density of $70{\times}25cm$ (June 10, 2011) in continuous cropping soil (CCS) and subsoiling reversion soil (SRS). Fertilizer was applied at the rates of 55-63-156 $kg\;ha^{-1}$ ($N-P_2O_5-K_2O$) and 10 $ton\;ha^{-1}$ of cattle manure in CCS, and it was applied the 50% increased cattle manure compost and nitrogen in DRS. Symptoms of viral infection were revealed in the farmer's plant at 30 days after planting, but there were no symptoms in virus-free plant. The yield of virus-free plant was more increased 15% and 10.5% than that of farmer's plant in DRS and CCS, respectively. The yield of sweetpotato in SRS was more increased 8.8% and 3.2% in farmer's plant and virus-free plant compared to CCS, respectively. In DRS, the rate of marketable tuber of virus-free plant was increased by 80% compared to the farmer's plant (60.1%). The virus-free plant was produced the tuber with more brilliant peel color and well-formed shape compared to the farmer's plant. The increased yield of virus-free plant and in SRS soil condition showed a positive relationship (p=0.05) with the number of leaf per plant at 30 days and the number of branch per plant at 120 days after planting. The results showed that the early growth after planting was very important for the development of storage root. Therefore, the deep-subsoil reversion and cultivation of virus-free plant could be reduced the injury by continuous cropping of sweet potato, and increased farm income.

Barnyard grasses are dominant weed that are not eliminated easily in the direct water seeding cultivation. So, deep water treatment can reduce their growth at the early growing stage of submerged paddy. This study was carried out to investigate the reducing growth of the barnyard grasses through flooding at seedling stages of rice plant in the green house. Under the normal condition, the plant height of rice variety, Samgwangbyeo, and 3 species of barnyard grass, E. caudata, E. pratocola and E. utilis were not showed the difference up to 10 days after seeding while the plant height of 3 barnyard grass species, especially E. utilis, was more elongated than the rice at 25 days after seeding. Plant height of the 3 barnyard grasses were not elongated largely during 3, 5 and 7 days of flooding treatment at 10 days after seeding. Interestingly, the rice seedlings was grown over 20 cm, and the flooding tolerance of rice seedling was higher than the 3 barnyard grass varieties. However, after flooding treatment for 3, 5 and 7 days, the elongation of plant height of 3 barnyard grasses, especially E. utilis was more speedy compared to rice seedlings as 6 to 9 days passes. And the protein spots from barnyard grasses were also reduced and eliminated more than the spots of rice seedling after flooding treatment.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of application of swine slurry (SS) and slurry composting-biofilteration liquid fertilizer (SCB) on productivity of sorghum${\times}$sorghum hybrid (SSH) and soil environment in reclaimed land of Sukmoon in Korea. Dry matter (DM) yields of SSH in the treatments of SS and chemical fertilizer (CF) were higher than those of in SCB treatment in reclaimed land, but DM yields in SS and CF did not show a significant difference as compared to SCB. Nutritive values of SSH were not different among CF, SS and SCB. In soil samples collected at the end of the experiment, the concentration of organic matter was significantly increased by SS and SCB as compare to that at the beginning of the experiment (P<0.05), whereas the concentration of total nitrogen was not affected by SS and SCB. To investigate the moisture content of soil, the soils were collected from three layers; surface (0~5 cm), intermediate (10~15 cm), and deep (20~25 cm) layer. The moisture contents of soils increased according to the soil depth and the soil moisture was immediately affected by the amount of rainfall. Therefore, we suggest that the cultivation of SSH using SS in reclaimed land is possible and that additional nitrogen fertilizer was surely applied in case of application of SCB to cultivate SSH.
Successful germination and establishment of seedlings in flooded paddy are critical in direct seeding cultivation of rice. In this study, we examined the relationship between antioxidant enzymes and alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activities and coleoptile elongation under submergence of deep water with two rice cultivars, Iksan429 and Woodrose, which show characteristic coleoptile elongation under hypoxic condition. The growth of shoot under submerged in water was faster than the root. The survival duration was longer in Iksan429 than in Woodrose under submerged in water. The alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) activities were significantly increased under hypoxia compared to in aerated condition. The ADH activity was increased in Iksan429 more than in Woodrose under hypoxia. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in Iksan429 was gradually increased up to 5 days after treatment (DAT) then decreased slowly till 14 DAT under water, whereas in Woodrose it was dramatically decreased after 5 DAT. The peroxidase (POX) activity in Iksan429 was significantly increased until 7 DAT under hypoxia, whereas it was not significantly different in Woodrose during hypoxic treatment. However, in non-treated condition, POX activity in Woodrose was increased more than Iksan429. The changes of catalase (CAT) activities showed no differences in both cultivars. We suggest that the overexpression of ADH, SOD and POX activities is responsible for the hypoxic tolerance and plays an important role in the surviving of rice seedling.

One of most important problems in the Monsoon Asia today is the production of rice paddy to meet the needs of the ever increasing population. Diversemeans are being employed to meet this demand, both by increasing productivity of existing farm land and by bringing further areas into cultivation. The primary step in either field is to ensure that there is sufficient moisture in the soil to suit the paddy, and at the same this means that excess moisture has to be drained off the land, while in others irrigat ion has to be employed to bring sufficient water to an area. In view of the fact that the project comprises a huge amount of earthwork, it can be carried out by extensive use of construction machinery in order to shorten the period. As farm ditch has a comparatively small section with shallow cutting depth, inaddition, there is lack of access road in the field, the excavation equipment with bulldozer or tracter-shovel (backhoe) type are not applicable because there are mostly adapted for the excavation of deep and wide section. Mini-backhoe with its bucket width not larger than 0. 3m, and width of blade not larger than 1. 00m seems to be more adaptable. About 80% of excavation of ditch section will be done by the machinery while the other 20% of excavation together with the finishing of the section are supposed to be done by man-power. The embankment of ditch section can be compacted by the crawler of backhoe when it is moving along the ditch for excavation. However, Lowland paddy field in the Monsoon Asia are made particulary in rain season, therefore, heavy machinery is not easy excavation for ditch. It is very important to know exact ground support power of the working site and select machines with corresponding ground pressure. Ground support power is variable subject to quality and water content of soil and therefore selection of machines should be made duly considering ground condition of the site at the time of construction works. Farm ditches dug and compacted by mannual labar are of poor quality and subject to destruction after one or two years of operation. On the other hand, excavation and compaction by bulldozer is not practical for ditches. Backboe is suitable for slope land, but this is required cycle time of bucket excavation and dumped out. If a small-scale farm ditch trencher adaptable to lowland paddy field is invented, such a machine could greatly accelerate the massive construction work envisaged in many countries and thus significantly speed up the most difficult part of irrigation development and management in Monsoon Asia.
This study was carried out to breed and develop high quality and functional nutrient tomato with multi disease resistance as well as a stable growing adaptation for fresh market usage under protected plastic houses cultivation. The materials were used 5 inbred lines and their 6 hybrids of large tomato group, which have been bred and developed from 1999 to 2007 in Division of Plant Resource Department of Chungnam National University. Fruit weight showed hybrid vigor effect that $F_1$ hybrids weighed more than their parent lines, fruit shape formed three type of oblate, deep oblate and globe shape, in firmness and pericarp thickness have got a high significant correlation, inbred DN611 line was measured the most firm fruit with 6.04 mm pericarp thickness. In fruit color at maturity, pink color crossed to red color appeared all red fruit color in the $F_1$ hybrids, it means red skin color is a dominant gene compared to pink skin color is a recessive gene in tomato, while between fruit skin color and shoulder part color showed no any co-relationship. The sugar content and titratable acid of $F_1$ hybrids inherited an intermediate data of their parent lines, the flavor of KP543 inbred line and the hybrid (JB535 x KP543) revealed the better taste with high brix and proper titratable acid content$^{*}$. In beta carotene content DN611 line showed 2~3 times higher than other materials so that its 3 hybrids contained an increased level of beta carotene, lycopene content was not so much difference among inbred lines and $F_1$ hybrids, of them MD508 contained higher of 8.72 mg and hybrid (JB535 x JA517) had 8.05 mg lycopene content per 100 g fruit, overall pink skin color and red skin color measured a higher lycopene content than yellow and orange skin color at ripe stage. In disease resistance test by PCR marker for Fusarium race2 (I2), Nematode (Mi1), ToMV ($Tm2^2$), Cladosporium (Cf9), (JB535 x JA517) hybrid have got multi-resistance with homozygote band in Nematode, ToMV, Cladosporium and heterozygote band in Fusarium race2. Through this breeding program we could select high quality and functional nutrient with multi resistant $F_1$ hybrids and inbred lines in tomato which are two best hybrids (JB535 x MD508), (JB535 x JA517), additionally developed high beta carotene inbred line DN611 and increased the level of lycopene inbred line MD508. These results will be very useful to make a high quality tomato variety continuously.
