Generation Y in the Global Market: A Comparison of South Korean and American Female Decision Making Styles

  • This study compares and contrasts the consumer decision-making styles (CDMS) of South Korean and American Generation Y females. A total of 117 American female and 206 Korean female consumers completed self-report survey questionnaires to assess their consumer decision making styles. Exploratory principal components factor analysis using varimax rotation was used to categorize the items into an underlying set of American and Korean decision-making characteristics. Two-tailed independent t-tests were conducted to examine the differences between the two groups when items appeared to have common factors. Factor analysis identified five common factors between the two samples (i.e., enjoyment, shopping aversion, price consciousness, brand consciousness, and quality consciousness). The t-test results report significant differences in the items reported in each factor between American and Korean females. Some of the factors are more indicative of American female Generation Y consumers than Korean female Generation Y consumers. For example, the American female sample seemed to enjoy shopping and prefer brand names more than the female Korean sample. Koreans females seem to have a higher aversion to shopping than Americans; in addition, Koreans females seem to be more accepting of discount and outlet stores, will wait until the price is low before buying a product, and prefer sales when shopping. Based on the findings, the instrument identified varying CDMS between the two samples used. Previous studies using the Sproles and Kendall (1986) instrument experienced the same issue (Bakewell & Mitchell, 2004, 2006; Bauer et al., 2006; Durvasula et al., 1996; Fan & Xiao, 1998; Hanzaee & Aghasibeig, 2008; Mitchell & Walsh, 2004; Siu et al., 2001; Walsh et al., 2001). The results support the idea that no single instrument can be used to examine CDMS in different cultures. This suggests that each country has a CDMS with internal characteristics. Limitations and research for future studies are also discusse.

제조업 근로자의 직무스트레스 요인과 대처전략, 스트레스 반응간의 관계 (The Relationships between Job Stressor, Coping Strategies, and Stress Responses of Manufacturing Workers)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the relationships of job stressor. coping strategies. and stress responses of manufactoring workers. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaires from 262 of the manufacturing workers in a local electronic company from July to August. 1999. For data analysis. Cronbach's a. Factor Analysis. Descriptive statistics. ANOVA. and Pearson's correlation coefficient with SPSS/PC+ 7.5 version program were used. The results were as follows: 1. Regard to the stress responses and coping strategies by sociodemographic variables. 'the overall stress responses' showed significant differences by sex. age. marrital state. The use of 'control coping strategy' showed significant differences by sex and the type of work. The use of 'avoid coping strategy' showed significant differences by sex. age. married state. year of career. and income. 2. The average scores of 'the job characteristics and participation in decision making factor'. 'the physical environmental factor'. and 'the role and leadership factor' were 2.66. 2.59. 2.59 in order. The average scores for 'the avoid coping strategy' and 'the control coping strategy' were 3.03. 2.97. The average scores for 'the overall. psychosoical. and physical stress responses' were 2.18. 2.18. 2.23. 3. The 'control coping strategy' was negatively related to 'the job characteristics and participation in decision making factor'. 'the role and leadership factor'. 'the psychosocial stress responses'. and 'the overall responses'. 'The control coping strategy' was positively related to all of 'the job stressors'. 'the physical stress responses', and' the overall stress responses'. 'The physical environment factor' was positively related to all of 'the stress reponses'. 'the role and leadership factor'. and 'the job characteristics and participation in decision making factor'. According to the results of this study, the suggestions were as follows: 1. The coping strategies of manufacturing workers in the specific job stress situation should be considered to future studies. 2. In order to applying the stress management program in the workplace. The organizational intervention focused on 'the job characteristics and participation in decision making' will be needed. 3. To support and use of 'control coping strategy' of the workers. the organizational efforts should be required.

This study develops a conceptual 'relation model of the purchasing decision factor', which identifies only performance based measurement, and proposes Fuzzy Measuring Method which uses the Fuzzy rule based algorithm to adept survey to date sets.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 대학에서 이루어지는 창업교육과 대학생들의 개인적 환경요인 및 개인적 특성이 진로결정 자기효능감에 미치는 영향을 규명함으로써 향후 대학생들의 진로결정 역량 강화를 위한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 연구방법으로 수도권 소재 대학생 346명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고, 측정된 자료의 통계처리를 위해 SPSS 18.0을 활용하였다. 본 연구의 가설 검증을 위해 상관분석과 더미변수를 활용한 다중회귀분석 결과, 창업교육, 역할모델, 가족창업경험, 진로준비행동은 진로결정 자기효능감에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 반면 성별은 진로결정 자기효능감에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못했다. 본 연구를 통해 대학생들의 진로결정에 의미 있는 영향을 미치는 진로준비행동, 역할모델, 가족창업경험의 중요성과 함께 진로결정 자기효능감 강화를 위한 대학차원 창업교육의 인식전환 및 중요성을 재확인 할 수 있다.

Decision Determinants of Indigenous Corn Farmers in Northern Philippines

  • This study which focused on factors and challenges affecting the decision-making of indigenous corn farmers ascertained the determinants that make farmers decide to engage in and continue corn farming activities in Paracelis, Mountain Province, in Northern Philippines. Determinants of decision and motivational factors of corn farmers were examined based on survey responses of 120 indigenous corn farmers by applying chi-square test analysis. Results showed that there were some decision and motivational factors that were significantly related to specific characteristics of corn farmers and there were also similarities of factors that affected the decision making of farmers in terms of engaging in and sustaining corn farming activities. Among the identified driving forces, financing capability and availability of land area were highly related with farm size and with a farmer's educational attainment. Knowledge or experience and interest in corn farming were also related with educational attainment. All the identified driving forces were found to be unrelated to farmers' age. The motivational factor identified as "personally satisfying" was found to be related with age, educational attainment and years in the farming business. Factors which affected a farmer's decision to sustain corn farming activities ("sustaining" factors) such as availability of different networks is highly related to educational attainment, years in the farming business and farm size while high market price of corn was the only "sustaining" factor linked to educational attainment. Based on these factors and cited problems in corn farming, recommendations were offered to address the issues raised by farmers.

노인 소비자의 경제적 독립성이 외식 구매 의사 결정 과정에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Effect of the Elderly Consumers' Financial Independency on Eating-out Decision Making Process)

  • As Korea has approached the aging society, older Koreans have become an important force in restaurant sales today. To succeed with this silver market, it is important for restaurant managers to know who they are and which factor influence the older Koreans' eating-out decision making process. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the elderly consumers financial independency on restaurant selection process. Data were collected from 178 older consumers above 55 years old and analyzed using the descriptive statistic analysis, MANOVA, and one-way ANOVA. The results showed that the elderly consumers financial independency significantly influenced the decision making process in determining where they eat out Significant differences were found between high income group and low income group in the Problem Recognition Step(Wilks' Lambda=0.776, F=3.796), Information Search Step(Wilks' Lambda=0.779, F=2.959), Alternative Evaluation Step (I :Wilks' Lambda=0.835, F=1.748/ II :Wilks' Lambda=0.764, F=3.212), and Purchase Decision Step(Wilks' Lambda=0.849, F=2.412), except the Post-Purchase Behavior(Wilks' Lambda=0.933, F=1.179). The more financially independent older consumers were, the more directly they were involved in the eating out decision making process. Older consumers with higher income and more personal property were likely to 'propose to eat out by themselves'(F=10.986), to obtain restaurant information from the 'printed materials'(F=9.707), to consider 'convenient location' as most important factor when they eat out(F=5.594), and to go to 'family restaurant'(F=7.067), 'Japanese restaurant'(F=7.391) and 'fine dining restaurants'(F-=6.382). In conclusion, we found that the elderly consumers financial independency did influence the eating-out decision making process. Considering that older Korean will become a financially independent consumer and will be eating away from home more often, food service operations should actively position themselves for this market and develop the market-driven menus and services to meet their needs and expectations.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the degree of influence on the elderly’s life adjustment and decision making in the family. For these research tasks the data were collected through interview. the respondents were 296 of man and woman elderly who lived in JeonJu. It was analyzed by various statistical methods such as Frequency, Percentile, ANOVA, correlate, t-test, Multiple Regression Analysis. The finding of this study are as follows; 1) Decision-making of the elderly in family had significant differences I the area of sex, the sum of monthly personal expenses, satisfaction level of personal expenses, subjective economic level and self-esteem in the order named. 2) Elderly life-adjustment had significant differences in the area of the residential district, the present job, the situation of a apouse, religion, education, the sum of the monthly personal expenses, health, satisfaction level of personal expenses, subjective economics level and self-esteem. 3) When we observe relationship with the elderly decision-making in family and life-adjustment, relation decision-making in family and life-adjustment appeared positively. 4) Decision-making of the elderly in family had the significant differences according to the variables such as sex, the sum of monthly personal expenses, and self-esteem in the order named, and the most influential factor among them was sex. 5) Elderly life-adjustment had the significant differences according to the variables such as self-esteem, decision-making, religion, health, the sum of the monthly personal expenses, the residential district in the order named. The most influential factor was self-esteem and the explanary of those variables for the elderly life-adjustment was 55.1%.

뷰티전공 대학생들의 진로 의사결정유형이 진로준비행동 및 전공만족에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Career Decision Making Types on Career Preparation Behavior and Major Satisfaction of Beauty Major College Students)

  • 본 연구에서는 뷰티 전공 대학생의 진로 의사결정 유형을 확인하고, 진로 준비 행동과 전공 만족에 미치는 영향에 대한 분석을 통해 진로 준비 행동의 향상을 목적으로 한다. 2021년 11월 1일부터 30일까지 진행하였고, 질문지는 총 485부를 분석 자료로 활용하였다. 연구 방법으로 빈도 분석, 요인분석, 신뢰도 분석, 상관관계 분석, 다중 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과로 첫째 진로 의사결정 유형이 진로 준비 행동과 전공 만족에서 정적(+) 상관관계가 나타나 통계학적으로 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 합리적 진로 의사결정 유형은 의존 및 직관적 유형과 상관 관계가 있었으며, 진로 준비 행동으로 시간 노력, 능력 활동, 정보수집의 진로 준비 행동과 전공 만족으로 수업 만족, 교과 만족에서 모두 통계적으로 유의한 정적(+) 상관관계를 나타냈다. 셋째 진로 의사결정 유형 중 합리형과 의존형이 진로 준비 행동의 하위요인인 능력 활동에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

인증시설 보육교사의 의사결정참여도에 따른 평가인증지표의 유지도 (The Maintenance of An Evaluation Accreditation Indicator According to Teachers' Participation in Decision Making)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the maintenance of an evaluation accreditation indicator according to child care center teachers' participation in decision making. The subjects of this study were 139 teachers from 12 accredited national, public, private, and corporate child care centers in Seoul and North Gyeongsang Province. The TIP-2 (Teacher Involvement and Participation Scale V.2) and Accreditation Indicator for Child Care Centers were used to measure teachers' participation in decision making and accreditation indicator maintenance. Frequency, mean, standard deviation, one-way ANOVA and scheffe test were used for data analyses. The results revealed that the teachers who rated middle and high level in terms of their participation in decision-making showed higher levels of maintenance of the evaluation accreditation indicator than those with low levels of participation. This finding suggests that teachers' participation in decision making is an important factor for maintaining the quality of child care centers.
