Mobile Location Estimation for WCDMA System (WCDMA 시스템에서의 이동체 위치 추정 방안)

  • In the microcell- or picocell-based system the frequent movements of the mobile bring about excessive traffics into the networks. A mobile location estimation mechanism can facilitate both efficient resource allocation and better QoS provisioning through handoff optimization. Existing location estimation schemes consider only LOS model and have poor performance in presence of multi-path and shadowing. In this paper we study a novel scheme which can increase estimation accuracy by considering NLOS environment and other multiple decision parameters than the received signal strength.

Deciding the Optimal Shutdown time of a Nuclear Power Plant (원자력 발전소의 최적 운행중지 시기 결정 방법)

  • A methodology that determines the optimal shutdown time of a nuclear power plant is suggested. The shutdown time is decided considering the trade off between the cost of accident and the loss of profit due to the early shutdown. We adopt the bayesian approach in manipulating the model parameter that predicts the accidents. We build decision tree models and apply dynamic programming approach to decide whether to shutdown immediately or operate one more period. The branch parameters in decision trees are updated by bayesian approach. We apply real data to this model and provide the cost of accidents that guarantees the immediate shutdown.

  • A study to analyze and solve problems of a biochemical process experiment has presented in this paper. We have taken Taguchi's parameter design approach, specifically orthogonal array, and determined the optimal levels of the selected variables through analysis of the experimental results using S/N ratio.

  • This paper treats the problem of estimating an arbitrary parametric function in the case when the parameter and sample spaces are countable and the decision space is arbitrary. Using the notions of a stepwise Bayesian procedure and finite admissibility, a theorem is proved. It shows that under some assumptions, every finitely admissible estimator is unique stepwise Bayes with respect to a finite or countable sequence of mutually orthogonal priors with finite supports. Under an additional assumption, it is shown that the converse is true as well. The first can be also extended to the case when the parameter and sample space are arbitrary, i.e., not necessarily countable, and the underlying probability distributions are discrete.

  • We present a new scheme to increase the performance of edge-preserving image smoothing from the parameter tuning of a Markov random field (MRF) function. The method is based on automatic control of the image smoothing-strength in MRF model ing in which an introduced parameter function is based on control of enforcing power of a discontinuity-adaptive Markov function and edge magnitude resulted from discontinuities of image intensity. Without any binary decision for the edge magnitude, adaptive control of the enforcing power with the full edge magnitude could improve the performance of discontinuity-preserving image smoothing.

  • Empirical Bayes approach is applied to estimation of the binomial parameter when there is a cost for observations. Both the sample size and the decision rule for estimating the parameter are determined stochastically by the data, making the result more useful in applications. Our empirical Bayes problems with non-iid components are compared to the usual empirical Bayes problems with iid components. The asymptotic optimal procedure with a computer simulation is given.

  • In power system study, relibility assessment has been an important topic during past several decards because sudden power interruption can bring about enormous economic loss. although the size of a substation is smaller than that of generation system or transmission system, switching actions after fault(s) make reliability assessment of substation rather complex situations such as switching actions easily and permit various probability distributions in describing substation elements. Despite this ability of Monte Carlo simulation, one-parameter exponential distribution is still popular in this reliability assessment. This paper examines the characteristics of several two-parameter probability distributions, and offers new parameter decision rule based on average and variance of the target to be modelled. In case study, this paper shows the profits by using Weibull distribution which is one of two-parameter probabilistic distributions instead of exponential one.

  • Cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) with decision fusion is considered as a key technology for tackling the challenges caused by fading/shadowing effects and noise uncertainty in spectrum sensing in cognitive radio. However, most existing solutions assume an error-free decision transmission, which is obviously not the case in realistic scenarios. This paper extends the general decision-fusion-based CSS scheme by considering the fading/shadowing effects and noise corruption in the common control channels. With this more practical model, the fusion centre first estimates the local decisions using a binary minimum error probability detector, and then combines them to get the final result. Theoretical analysis and simulation of this CSS scheme are performed over typical channels, which suggest some performance deterioration compared with the pure case that assumes an error-free decision transmission. Furthermore, the fusion strategy optimization in the proposed cooperation model is also investigated using the Bayesian criteria. The numerical results show that the total error rate of noisy CSS is higher than that of the pure case, and the optimal values of fusion parameter in the counting rule under both cases decrease as the local detection threshold increases.

  • The Viterbi Decoding is one of the most researched areas of the convolutional decoding methods. In this paper, we use various parameters for the substantial Viterbi decoding and discuss some viterbi decoding methods. And, the viterbi algorithms of the methods, we discuss 'Hard Decision' and 'Soft Decision'. So, we compare differences of two methods about decoding methods, performance. Because of having various parameters and decision methods, we discuss the values of various parameter and decision methods in the Gaussian channel about the viterbi decoding methods.
