Gravity-driven membrane (GDM) filtration system based on the nanofiber membrane was investigated. This system can be operated with little energy demand due to a gravitational pressure-driven filtration and biological fouling control strategy. Moreover, the optimal module configuration based on the high permeance of nanofiber membrane can provide a significantly high water productivity. In order to evaluate its applicability potential, the pilot-scale (3000-5000 L/day) systems with nanofiber membranes were operated in developing countries (Kiribati and Tuvalu). Our results showed that the 14-92 L/(m2×h) of the permeate flux was determined indicating a stabilized water productivity. In addition, the permeate water indicated a high removal rate (more than 99.99%) of turbidity and bacteria. Consequently, the system can provide a stabilized water production with safe permeate water quality during long-term operation. These findings exemplify an effective approach to decentralized drinking water treatment for developing countries.
It is necessary for a retailer to improve responsiveness to uncertain customer demand in product sales. In order to solve this problem, this paper discusses an optimal operation for a 2-stage-ordering-production system consisting of a retailer and a manufacturer. First, based on the demand information estimated at first order time $t_1$, the retailer determines the optimal initial order quantity $Q^*_1$, the optimal advertising cost $a^*_1$ and the optimal retail price $p^*_1$ of a single product at $t_1$, and then the manufacturer produces $Q^*_1$. Next, the retailer updates the demand information at second order time $t_2$. If the retailer finds that $Q^*_1$ dissatisfies the demand indicated by the demand information updated at $t_2$, the retailer determines the optimal second order quantity $Q^*_2$ under $Q^*_1$ and adjusts optimally the advertising cost and the retail price to $a^*_2$ and $p^*_2$ at $t_2$. Here, decision-making approaches for two situations are made-a decentralized supply chain (DSC) whose objective is to maximize the retailer's profit and an integrated supply chain (ISC) whose objective is to maximize the whole system's profit. In the numerical analysis, the results of the optimal decisions under DSC are compared with those under ISC. In addition, supply chain coordination is discussed to adjust the unit wholesale price at each order time as Nash Bargaining solutions.

The information system of corporations are facing a new environment expressed by miniaturization, decentralization and Open System. It is therefore of utmost importance for corporations to adapt flexibly th such new environment by providing for corresponding changes to their existing information systems. The objectives of this study are to identify this new environment faced by today′s information system and develop effective methods for data resource management under this new environment. In this study, it is assumed that the new environment faced by information systems can be specified as Distributed Computing Environment, and in order to achieve such system, presents Client/server architecture as its representative computing structure, This study defines Client/server architecture as a computing architecture which specialize the fuctionality of the client system and the server system in order to have an application distribute and perform cooperative processing at the best platform. Furthermore, from among the five structures utilized in Client/server architecture for distribution and cooperative processing of application between server and client this study presents two different data management methods under the Client/server environment; one is "Remote Data Management Method" which uses file server or database server and. the other is "Distributed Data Management Method" using distributed database management system. The result of this study leads to the conclusion that in the client/server environment although distributed application is assumed, the data could become centralized (in the case of file server or database server) or decentralized (in the case of distributed database system) and the data management method through a distributed database system where complete responsibility and powers with respect to control of data used by the user are given not only is it more adaptable to modern flexible corporate environment, but in terms of system operation, it presents a more efficient data management alternative compared to existing data management methods in terms of cutting costs.

In this study, the project manager-oriented organization model has been verified by analysing it with forming a clear definition of detailed unitary duty entity to develop current non-efficient CM system constituted by functional organization with the decentralized responsibility and apply the model As a result from verification that the model provides valid solutions by comparing it with the existing, the model is better than the existing in cost savings, target profit sales rate, total rate of new on sales. Moreover, various activities in cost savings and cases where improvement is feasible are executed. However, the model caused some problems in organizational operation, project management and in division of duties so this study proposed improving management method

The simultaneous operation of multiple UAV's makes it possible to enhance the mission accomplishment efficiency. In order to achieve this, easily scalable control algorithms are required, and swarm intelligence having such characteristics as flexibility, robustness, decentralized control, and self-organization based on behavioral model comes into the spotlight as a practical substitute. Recently, evolutionary robotics is applied to the control of UAV's to overcome the weakness of difficulties in the logical design of behavioral rules. In this paper, a neural network controller evolved by evolutionary robotics is applied to the control of multiple UAV's which have the mission of searching limited area. Several numerical demonstrations show the proposed algorithm has superior results to those of behavior based neural network controller which is designed by intuition.
Internet traffic is getting tremendously heavier due to the exponential growth of the Internet users, the spread of the E-commerce and the network games. High-speed routers for fast packet forwarding are commercially available to satisfy the growing bandwidth. A high-speed router, which has the decentralized multiprocessing architecture for IP and routing functions, consists of host processors, line interfaces and switch fabrics. In this paper, we propose a software architecture tuned for high-speed non-forwarding packet manipulation. IPCMP (Inter-Processor Communication Message Protocol), which is a mechanism for IPC (Inter-Processor Communication), is also proposed and implemented as well. Proposed IPC mechanism results in faster packet-processing rate by 10% as compared to the conventional IPC mechanism using UDP/IP.

Existing level crossing obstruction detecting system occurs section of not detecting an obstruction by line detecting. Due to installation of decentralized equipment, it has become a problem in terms of safety and maintenance costs. accordingly, We have developed level crossing obstruction detecting system using laser radar sensor in order to solve these problems. In this paper, Describe results of functional test for the developed level crossing obstruction detecting system. functional tests are normal operation test(control unit and sensor unit) and test to display the fault information in event of a failure(control unit and sensor unit). It was confirmed that it works properly all according to functional test of level crossing obstruction detecting system using laser radar sensor.
This study focuses on the current state of Smart Grid policy in Japan and its problems while the interest in Smart Grid has been increasing since the March 2011 earthquake in East Japan. As a result of the analysis, Japan introduced the fixed price buying system of new and renewable energy in response to the power supply and demand problem caused by the 2011 earthquake in East Japan, and established a decentralized green electricity trading market in which electricity generated from new and renewable energy is traded Smart Grid-related projects were implemented as a solution to solve energy crisis and environmental problems at the same time. As a result, we achieved visible results such as suppressing peak power, reducing CO2 emissions, and securing stable supply and demand of energy using renewable energy sources. On the other hand, the improvement of current Smart Grid policy operation in Japan and the introduction of stabilization system of power system, promotion of international standards of domestic technology related to smart grid, and support for strengthening security of smart grid.

Since the competitive market environment was introduced into the electric power industry, the structure of the industry has been changing from vertically integrated system to functionally unbundled and decentralized system composed of multiple (decision-making) market participants. So the market participants such as Gencos or LSE (load serving entity) need to forecast the market clearing price and thus build their offer or bidding strategies. Not just these market players but also a market operator is required to perform market analysis and ensure simulation capability to manage and monitor the competitive electricity market. For fulfilling the demand for market simulation, many global venders like GE, Henwood, Drayton Analytics, CRA, etc. have developed and provided electricity market simulators. Most of these simulators are based on the optimization formulation which has been used mainly for the least cost resource planning in the centralized power system planning and operation. From this standpoint, it seems somehow inevitable to face many challenges on modeling competitive market based on the method of traditional market simulators. In this paper, we propose a kind of new method, which is MAS based market simulation. The agent based model has already been introduced in EMCAS, one of commercial market simulators, but there may be various ways of modeling agent. This paper, in particular, seeks to introduce an model for MAS based market simulator.

In recent years, active research has been devoted toward developing a monitoring system using ambient vibration data in order to quantitatively determine the deterioration occurring in a structure over a long period of time. This study developed a low-cost edge computing system that detects the abnormalities in structures by utilizing the dynamic characteristics acquired from the structure over the long term for ensemble learning. The system hardware consists of the Raspberry Pi, an accelerometer, an inclinometer, a GPS RTK module, and a LoRa communication module. The structural abnormality detection afforded by the ensemble learning using dynamic characteristics is verified using a laboratory-scale structure model vibration experiment. A real-time distributed processing algorithm with dynamic feature extraction based on the experiment is installed on the Raspberry Pi. Based on the stable operation of installed systems at the Community Service Center, Pohang-si, Korea, the validity of the developed system was verified on-site.
