This paper presents an optimal and robust tuning method of decentralized PI controller for the TITO second order systems to be formulated as LQR. The procedure is developed by establishing relationships between the closed-loop state equation including the decentralized PI tuning parameter and the . closed-loop state equation of LQR and by selecting the weighting factors Q and R of the cost function in order to satisfy the design specifications In frequency domain which the stability robustness and satisfied the performance guaranteed.
This paper presents an optimal tuning method of the decentralized PI controller of two-input, two-output(TITO) second order system to be formulated as LQR. The tuning method of proposed decentralized PI controller is developed by establishing the relationships between the closed-loop state equation including decentralized PI control factors and the closed-loop state equation of LQR, which can be guaranteed the performance and stability-robustness by selecting the weighting factors Q and R of the cost function in order to satisfy design specifications in frequency domain.
This paper presents an optimal tuning method of the decentralized PI controller of the two-input, two-output(TITO) second order system with time-delay using LQR approach.
Recently, the Electro-Hydrostatic Actuator(EHA) has been developed as a result of research on energy saving. EHA is usually composed of a direct driven pump from an electric motor and is available to control cylinder displacement or velocity with high efficiency. In addition, it has the advantage of compactness, minimum leakage and availability of decentralized control. In this study, an EHA system was designed to decrease the path tracking error and manufactured for test. The linearization method provided in AMESim software was used to derive the model of EHA system. The derived model was applied to design the PI-D controller to effectively overcome the disturbance. The effectiveness of this controller was verified by further testing.

In this paper, an application of a decentralized $H_{\infty}$ controller(DHC) to multiple controlled-permanent magnet(CMAG) magnetic levitation(Maglev) systems is presented. The designed DHC using two Riccati equations iteratively has simpler structure and needs less computational loads than conventional centralized $H_{\infty}$ controller. A target plant is a hybrid-type CMAG system with permanent magnet and coil, and its mathematical model is firstly derived to design the DHC. To implement the designed algorithm, a real Maglev vehicle system including digital controller, chopper, sensor, etc., is manufactured. To compare the performances of the DHC method with an observer-based state feedback control(OSFC), the input tracking and disturbance rejection characteristics are experimentally tested. As performance indices(PI), integral of squared error(ISE), integral of absolute error(IAE), integral of time multiplied by absolute error(ITAE) and integral of time multiplied by squared error(ITSE) are used. From the experimental results, it can be seen that the input tracking and disturbance rejection performances of the DHC are better than those of the conventional controller.

The Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller is the most popular industrial controller and more than 90% process industries use this controller. During the past 50 years, numerous good tuning methods have been proposed for Single Input Single Output Systems. However, design of PI/PID controllers for multivariable processes is a challenge for the researchers. A comparative study of three PID controllers design methods has been carried-out. These methods include the DS (Direct Synthesis) method, IMC (Internal model Control) method and ETF (Effective Transfer Function) method. MIMO PID controllers are designed for a number of 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 process models with multiple delays. The performance of the three methods has been evaluated through simulation studies in Matlab/Simulink environment. After extensive simulation studies, it is found that the Effective Transfer Function (ETF) Method produces better output responses among two methods. In this work, only decentralized methods of PID controllers have been studied and investigated.

Structural loading on a wind turbine is due to cyclic loads acting on the blades under turbulence and periodic wind field. The structural loading generates fatigue damage and fatigue failure of the wind turbine. The individual pitch control(IPC) is an efficient control method for reducing structural loading. In this paper, we present an IPC design method using Decentralized LQR(DLQR) and Disturbance accommodating control(DAC). DLQR is used for regulating rotor speed and DAC is used for canceling out disturbances. The performance of the proposed IPC is compared with CPC, which was designed with a gain-scheduled PI controller. We confirm the effect of fatigue load reduction with the use of damage equivalent load(DEL).
Frequency regulation in off-normal conditions has been an important problem in electric power system design/operation and is becoming much more significant today due to the increasing size, changing structure and complexity of interconnected power systems. Increasing economic pressures for power system efficiency and reliability have led to a requirement for maintaining power system frequency closer to nominal value. This paper presents a decentralized frequency control framework using a modified low-order frequency response model containing a proportional-integral(PI) controller. The proposed framework is suitable for near-normal and emergency operating conditions. An $H_{\infty}$ control technique is applied to achieve optimal PI parameters, and an analytic approach is used to analyse the system frequency response for wide area operating conditions. Time-domain simulations with a multi-area power system example show that the simulated results agree with those predicted analytically.
A control system design with Coefficient Diagram Method (CDM) is proven that effective for SISO control design. But the control system design for MIMO via CDM is not concrete procedure. In this paper presents the control system design method for quadruple-tank process via CDM. By using the decentralized method for both non-minimum phase and minimum phase are made. The results from Integral-Proportional (I-P) controller’s design via CDM and standard Proportional-Integral (PI) controls are also shown to compare the merits of the proposed controllers.
