  • This paper proposes an analysis method to check the schedulability of a set of sporadic tasks under earliest deadline first (EDF) scheduler. The sporadic task model consists of subtasks with precedence constraints, arbitrary arrival times and deadlines. In order to determine the schedulability, we present an approach to find exact worst case response time (WCRT) of subtatsks. With the technique presented in this paper, we exploit the precedence relations between subtasks in an accurate way while taking advantage of the deadline of different subtasks. Another nice feature of our approach is that it avoids calculation time overhead by exploiting the concept of deadline busy period. Experimental results show that this consideration leads to a significant improvement compared with existing work.

  • Earliest virtual deadline zero laxity (EVDZL) algorithm is proposed for mobile GPU schedulers for its improved responsiveness. Responsiveness of user interface (UI) is one of the key factors in evaluating smart devices because of its significant impacts on user experiences. However, conventional GPU schedulers based on completely fair scheduling (CFS) shows a poor responsiveness due to its algorithmic complexity. In this letter, we present the EVDZL scheduler based on the conventional earliest deadline zero laxity (EDZL) algorithm by accommodating the virtual laxity concept into the scheduling. Experimental results show that the EVDZL scheduler improves the response time of the Android UI by 9.6% compared with the traditional CFS scheduler.

  • The downlink rate scheduling problem is considered for CDMA networks with multiple users carrying packets of heterogeneous traffic (voice/audio only, bursty data only or mixed traffic), with each type having its own distinct quality of service requirements. Several rate scheduling algorithms are developed, the common factor of which is that part of the decision on which users to serve is based on a function of the deadline of their head-ofline packets. An approach of Andrews et al., in which the basic Earliest-Deadline-First algorithm is studied for similar systems, is extended to result in better performance by considering a more efficient power usage and by allowing service of more than one user per timeslot if the power resources permit it. Finally, the performance of the proposed schemes is compared through simulations.

  • We propose Energy-constrained Multiprocessor Real-Time Scheduling algorithms for (m,k)-firm deadline constrained tasks (EMRTS-MK). Rather than simply saving as much energy as possible, we consider energy as hard constraint under which the system remains functional and delivers an acceptable performance at least during the prescribed mission time. We evaluate EMRTS-MKs in several experiments, which quantitatively show that they achieve the scheduling objectives.

  • Recently, wireless technology gains attention for industrial networks due to low cost, flexibility, relatively easy installation and most importantly, solving the rouring issue. ISA100.11a is one of promising standard for wireless industrial networks (WINs). Data traffic in industrial networks are known to be periodic and must satisfy the real-time property namely deadline. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed to apply deadline monotonic scheduling to periodic tasks in ISA100.11a networks and to evaluate the performance of ISA100.11a by checking the schedulability and beacon frame overhead. Simulation results showns, that our proposed scheme can reduces the network overhead while maintaining schedulability as compared to the previous algorithm. In addition, by reducing the network overhead, our proposed scheme can send more data without degrading the overall performance of WINs.

  • The Rate Monotonic(RM) scheduling algorithm and Earliest Deadline First(EDF) scheduling algorithm are normally used in Real-Time scheduling algorithm. In those scheduling algorithm, we could predict the performance possibility with total utilization value of task group. But. it had problems with prediction of the boundedness in individual task when the utilization value was over in temporary task. In this paper, the suggested scheduling algorithm can predict task when the utilization value was over and it suggested the method of predicting scheduling possibility based on the utilization value of individual task as well. it predicted the boundedness of scheduling possibility test through simulation In Real-Time scheduling algorithm and analyzed the result.

  • In this paper, a coordinated scheduling algorithm is proposed to reduce end-to-end delay in distributed control of systems. For the algorithm, the analysis of practical end-to-end delay in the worst case is performed priory with considering implementation of the systems. The end-to-end delay is composed of the delay caused by multi-task scheduling of operating systems, the delay caused by network communications, and the delay caused by asynchronous timing between operating systems and network communications. Through some simulation tests based on CAN(Controller Area Network), the proposed worst case end-to-end delay analysis is validated. Through the simulation tests, it is also shown that a real-time distributed control system designed to existing worst case delay cannot guarantee end-to-end time constraints. With the analysis, a coordinated scheduling algorithm is proposed here. The coordinated scheduling algorithm is focused on the reduction of the delay caused by asynchronous timing between operating systems and network communications. Online deadline assignment strategy is proposed for the scheduling. The performance enhancement of the distributed control systems by the scheduling algorithm is shown through simulation tests.

  • In this paper, an effective task scheduling scheme was proposed for the flexible real time LINUX systems with the selection between EDF(earliest deadline first) and RMS(rate monotonic scheduling). It was known that many task scheduling schemes were analyzed according to the characteristics of scheduling schemes and the guarantee of an earliest deadline scheduler for process utilities.

  • Moldable parallel tasks are widely used in different areas, such as weather forecast, biocomputing, mechanical calculation, and so on. Considering the deadline and the speedup, scheduling moldable parallel tasks becomes a difficulty. Past work majorly focuses on the LA (List Algorithms) or OMA (Optimizing the Middle Algorithms). Different from prior work, our work normalizes execution time and makes all tasks have the same scope in normalized execution time: [0,1], and then according to the normalized execution time, a method is used to search for the reference execution time without considering the deadline of tasks. According to the reference execution time, we get an initial scheduling result based on AFCFS (Adaptive First Comes First Served) policy. Finally, a heuristic approach is used to improve the performance of the initial scheduling result. We call our method HSRET (a Heuristic Scheduling method based on Reference Execution Time). Comparisons to other methods show that HSRET has good performance in AWT (Average Waiting Time), AET (Average Execution Time), and PUT (Percentages of Unfinished Tasks).
