  • In this paper, the ALT (ALTernative) board and a NetLogo extension module are developed for the active participatory simulation (APS) learning. Through the participatory simulation with HubNet each student can attend the experiment as one of clients. Only one HubNet server, however, is able to use an external device so that the bifocal modeling based learning with multiple users is impossible. In order to overcome the drawback, and enable clients participate into the experiment and collect the experimental data and the measured data, an ATmega 32 based board and its firmware are developed. In addition, Java extension module based on TCP/IP socket interfaces is developed to exchange the data with HubNet server. Finally, we show some NetLogo program examples to use the developed hardware and software for APS and seek the way to use them for science education.

  • LDA (Linear Discriminant Analysis) is a data discrimination technique that seeks transformation to maximize the ratio of the between-class scatter and the within-class scatter While it has been successfully applied to several applications, it has two limitations, both concerning the underfitting problem. First, it fails to discriminate data with complex distributions since all data in each class are assumed to be distributed in the Gaussian manner; and second, it can lose class-wise information, since it produces only one transformation over the entire range of classes. We propose three extensions of LDA to overcome the above problems. The first extension overcomes the first problem by modeling the within-class scatter using a PCA mixture model that can represent more complex distribution. The second extension overcomes the second problem by taking different transformation for each class in order to provide class-wise features. The third extension combines these two modifications by representing each class in terms of the PCA mixture model and taking different transformation for each mixture component. It is shown that all our proposed extensions of LDA outperform LDA concerning classification errors for handwritten digit recognition and alphabet recognition.

  • The Presidential Archives preserve and manage the president's records and archives, which accounts for the social and governmental operations during the president's term of office. However, search systems and online contents provided by the Presidential Archives are difficult to use. This study proposed an LOD-based archival information service for the comfort of users. The proposed service has a better extension of archival information service contents from President Roh's term. The provision of details is divided into three steps: first step sets up the establishment methods, second step creates ontological design, and third step converts it to RDF and connects to other institutions. Through the process, this study suggests an extension of archival information service in the Presidential Archives.

  • The Support Vector Machine(SVM) is very functional and efficient classification method to any other classification analysis method. However, its optimal extension to more than two classes is not obvious. In this paper several multi-category SVM methods are introduced and compared using simulation and real data sets. Also comparison with traditional multi-category classification and SVM based methods is performed.

  • We provide a simple chi-squared test of multivariate normality based on rectangular cells on the spherical data. This test is simple since it is a direct extension of the univariate chi-squared test to multivariate case and the expected cell counts are easily computed. We derive the limiting distribution of the chi-squared statistic via the conditional limit theorems. We study the accuracy in finite samples of the limiting distribution and then compare the poser of our test with those of other popular tests in an application to a real data.

  • Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) developed global and platform-independent data standards to improve ineffective processes of clinical trial studies. Regardless of its objective toward global cooperation, the current version of the CDISC standard cannot describe clinical trial data in various languages for multi-national investigators or reviewers. This problem applies not only to tabulated datasets in Study Data Tabulation Model (SDTM) but also to extensible markup language representation of the datasets in Operational Data Model (ODM) instances. In order to address this issue, we propose to extend the current version of SDTM and ODM to collect clinical data for multi-national clinical trials. SDTM needs to have new special-purpose domain for multi-language representation purpose. Additionally, ODM is recommended to extend its XML schema using subtyping or type inheritance mechanism respectively. Our extension of SDTM and ODM enable to represent any granule of study data tabulation model or XML data entities to describe in efficient languages. This result will contribute to collect multi-language data easily for multi-national clinical trials.

  • Contents of water soluble vitamin $B_6$ in a total of 62 agricultural products cultivated in local areas in Korea were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detector (HPLC/FLD). To verify the method of vitamin $B_6$ analysis, a quality control chart was formulated with in-house control using a mixture of broccoli and shiitake mushrooms. Among cereals, high content of vitamin $B_6$ measured $234.3{\sim}260.3{\mu}g/100g$ in dried mung bean and soybean. Vitamin $B_6$ content of non-glutinous and glutinous black rice measured $105.0{\mu}g/100g$ and $129.7{\mu}g/100g$, respectively. In vegetables, high content of vitamin $B_6$ were measured in passion fruit ($104.3{\mu}g/100g$), gat ($55.7{\sim}84.3{\mu}g/100g$), gomchwi ($31.3{\sim}88.0{\mu}g/100g$) and garlic ($72.7{\sim}98.3{\mu}g/100g$). Among fruits, gold kiwi 'Zespri' and green kiwi 'Hayward' revealed high vitamin $B_6$ content of $116.3{\mu}g/100g$ and $78.7{\mu}g/100g$, respectively. In persimmons, daebongsi had high vitamin $B_6$ content ($36.0{\sim}72.7{\mu}g/100g$) than bansi and sweet persimmon. Vitamin $B_6$ content in dried jujube and persimmon increased more than $86.7{\mu}g/100g$ compared to fresh materials. Among specialty crops, green tea powder ($64.7{\sim}251.0{\mu}g/100g$) and sansuyu ($172.3{\mu}g/100g$) revealed high content. Of mushrooms, vitamin $B_6$ content of Sparassis crispa ($139.3{\mu}g/100g$) was the highest. Vitamin $B_6$ content information of agricultural products in local areas in Korea collected from this experiment will be used as valuable preliminary data for grasp national nutritional status.

  • This study was conducted to expand the distribution of new technology efficiently by analyzing the structure relationship based on the innovation resistance model and partial least square structural equation model (PLS-SEM). This study selected innovative propensity, relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, risk, and extension service consisting of educational, technical, and funding services as factors affecting innovation resistance. This study constructed a questionnaire that measured 11 factors including acceptance intention of new technology using 33 indicators. Data was from April to October, 2017, targeting 180 farmers who did not join in projects to spread new technologies of the Rural Development Administration. Results showed the factors positively and significantly affecting innovation resistance include complexity and risk. Innovative propensity did not have any effect on innovation resistance. However, it positively affected acceptance intention of new technology. The service of the extension organizations had a negative effect on innovation resistance, but did not affect acceptance intention of new technology. This study suggests that extension services should promote activities such as education, consulting, publicity and pilot projects related with new technologies in order to minimize the antipathy toward new agricultural technologies.
