  • As the importance of data grows because of the advent of the next industrial revolution, foreign countries are pushing for long-term data preservation technology research. On the other hand, in Korea, administrative information data sets have been legislated as records management areas without specific long-term preservation measures. As a response, this study conducted basic, cross-validation tests on the Software Independent Archiving of Relational Database (SIARD), which was proposed as an administrative information data set preservation format in several prior works. First, the underlying verification test focuses on deriving the data, structure, and functionality of the data set that SIARD can preserve. The second cross-validation test aimed at verifying the interoperability of SIARD independent of the DBMS class. In addition, two verification tests have confirmed the SIARD feature delivery range. Consequently, the differences between the feature types specified in the SIARD 2.0 standard and those provided by the actual SIARD Suite have been derived. Based on verification test results, we are proposing a development plan to broaden SIARD functionality and set a direction to efficiently enhance SIARD for local situations.

  • We studied simultaneously the electronically written data affected in the use of thermal transfer discs and the recoding strategy between recoding drives for the stable long term preservation of optical discs which are commonly used in an electronic data storage device. The most important thing in the archiving preservation might be a choice of a device, however the use of thermal transfer recording discs is not good for long term data preservation because the thermal effect on the recoding data is critical which means that the data are recorded not under best condition but under bad condition. We inspect the strategies of recoding data from 12 brands of optical discs and drives of 7 brands and it turns out the recoding strategy is needed first for the long term preservation of electronic recording data. Thus, without affecting data quality and deformation of optical discs, the choice of optimal disc and drive in recoding data will be a solution for the long term preservation of recoding data.

  • GLP regulations were initially “promulgated to address assuring the validity of data in the wake of investigations by EPA and FDA during the mid -1970's which revealed that some studies submitted to the agencies had not been conducted in accordance with acceptable laboratory practices.” [1] In the early 1970s, results of an investigation by the FDA in about 40 laboratories revealed many cases of badly managed studies, poor training of personnel and some cases of deliberate fraud. The general findings were that there were poorly trained study directors and study personnel, poorly designed protocols, protocols not followed, procedures not conducted as described, raw data badly collected, data not correctly identified, data without traceability, data not verified and approved by responsible persons, lack of standardised procedures, poor animal husbandry, inadequate characterisation of test items and test systems, inadequate resources, equipment poorly calibrated or otherwise qualified, reports not sufficiently verified, not an accurate account of the actual study, not a proper reflection of raw data and inadequate archiving of data. These problems are not just past history, since they resurface time and time again, even in quite recent times as the experience of GLP inspectors shows [1]. The GLPs specify minimum practices and procedures in order to ensure the quality and integrity of data submitted in accordance with a regulatory requirement

  • There have been many studies to improve the performance of a database system focused on modifying data structure, data partitioning, and materializing strategy. The main contribution of this study is to propose a new alternative towards improving database performance by designing single table schema or processing queries virtually in main memory space. Material Requirement Planning(MRP) part explosion process has shown almost 2 times shorter under DB schema we suggested, and even more than 10 times shorter when separating and filtering policy of DB archiving process are assumed. Several experimental results are shown to illustrate the excellence of our solution.

  • Traditional voice traffic over mobile communication has been changed into data and media contents traffic, which makes traffic amount increases and speedy data transfer required. In the near future ubiquitous mobile terminal environment will be common so that security issues will arise due to many heterogeneous equipments and connections. In this paper, many previous methods used for terminal authentication are examined. And we propose new system model which uses our novel user authentication protocol based on strong one-time password (OTP) and short message service (SMS). We verify our system model and protocol by implementation.

  • KOMPSAT-2, to be launched in 2005, will be a long awaited addition to the existing high-resolution satellite sensors. The use of download facilities in Europe will greatly increase its capacity without loosing any coverage over Korea. In this paper the concept for an Urban Application Center is presented. It is part of the proposed Regional Application Center which is dedicated to archiving and distributing KOMPSAT-2 images. The Urban Application Center will offer services derived from KOMPSAT-2. Its aim is to promote the use of KOMPSAT-2 data and increase the general awareness and acceptance of satellite data.

  • This paper deals with an experimental study for on-line monitoring the performance of a universal motor for vacuum cleaner. Performance tests are conducted on the PC-based virtual instrumentation system designed using the graphical programming language LabVIEW. The proposed monitoring system is capable of performing real time measurement functions, including data acquisition, display, and analyses in the time and frequency domains, as well as data archiving. The measured mechanical and iron loss, voltage, current, input power, power factor, torque, and efficiency characteristics are presented as function of speed.

  • This paper presents a virtual instrumentation(VI) system for LIMs performance on-line monitoring. The VI is designed using the graphical programming language LabVIEW and is capable of performing on-line measurement functions, including data acquisition, display, and analyses in the time and frequency domains, as well as data archiving. To monitor in real time the steady-state and transient electromagnetic thrust of LIMs, the search coil is used for the determination of the flux linkage components, which is then multiplied by the appropriate current components to yield a signal proportional to the electromagnetic thrust. This paper reports the LIM's dynamics measured by the proposed on-line monitoring system.

  • In construction projects, it is common to exchange documents using email because of convenience. In this study, a method extracting and organizing block information automatically based on email was developed. This method is composed of document exchange and archiving processes, which are difficult to manage and vulnerable to loss. Therefore, this study aims to develop a solution that can automatically link email and block information. The block data components are designed to derive from email exchange and user-additional input information. Also, automatically generating blocks process including extraction and conversion of information was proposed. This solution can lead to promote the convenience of project document management in terms of identifying the document flow and preventing loss of information.
