This study investigated the geochernical characteristics of Mn scale formed in groundwater wells at the Damyang area. The composition of Mn scale consists mainly of MnO and $SiO_2$. The content of Mn ranges from56.61wt.% to 68.69wt.%, and $SiO_2$ content ranges from 1.56wt.% to 10.45wt.%. The contents of Mo and Ba in Mn scale increased with increased depth; whereas, the content of Zn and Pb decreased with increased depth. Birnessite, quartz and feldspars were identified in Mn scales using x-ray powder diffraction studies. The IR absorption bands for Mn scales show major absorption band due to OH stretching, adsorbed molecular water, and birnessite stretching, respectively. In the SEM and EDS analysis, the Mn scale consists of botryoidal, spherical, spherulite, and empty straw structure. Those structure may be precipitated simply due to oversaturation with concentrated Mn content or may be formed through biogenic precipitation by Lepthothrix discophora. Under microanalysis using EDS on those structure surface of Mn scales, the Mn atomic percent range from 28 to 44, and such elements revealed the presence of Si, K, Na, Ca, Cl, Cu, Zn, and Ba.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential water condition of Honam region according to water budget analysis. For this purpose, the eight regions (Suncheon, Gwangju, Jhangheung, Damyang, Mokpo, Yosu, Huksando, Namwon) are selected as study area. The result is as follows. (1) The water surplus indicating the potential water condition is ordered as Yosu, Sunchon, Changhung, Namwon, Damyang, Huksando, Kwangju, Mokpo. So the potential water condition of Kwangju and Mokpo is worst among study regions. (2) The high water surplus region is corresponded to high precipitation and low actual evapotranspiration legions. (3) The potential water condition is to agree with several facts about the water resource condition of Honam region. For example, large scale dam of Honam region has been constructed for Kwangju and Mokpo city. This fact indicates that the potential water condition calculated by water budget analysis is corresponded to actual water resource condition. (4) Consequently, the water budget analysis is effective method for investigating the actual water condition and establishing the water resource management of specific regions.
This study suggests the way of revitalization of strategic specialized industry from the perspective of design business model. In order to revitalize the regional strategic specialized industry, it is necessary to overcome traditional production-based industry structure. For the industry's side, companies should convert their traditional production-based business perspective into market-oriented or design-oriented one. For the designer's side, they need to lead the design-centered industry structure by suggesting active design sources to industries escaping from passive design development perspective. Namely, the revitalization of strategic specialized industry can be peformed by design-based and market-oriented business execution. The formation of market-oriented industry can be accomplished by designers who do their design development works with design-business perspective and play an active role in the industry system. For the suggestion of concept mentioned above, this study conceptualized the meaning of design business, and applied the concept of it to the case study for bamboo industry of Damyang province. The case study suggests the possibility that designers are able to create higher profit through various sources such as sales royalty, production royalty etc by playing an active role for design development, industry selection, business system establishment and so on. In addition, the study implies that industries can increase the possibility of business success through design-based business execution mentioned above.
Numerical methods are developed for calculating the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the tapered cantilever arches with variable curvature. The differential equations governing the free vibrations of such arches are derived and solved numerically, in which the effect of rotatory inertia is included. The parabolic shape is chosen as the arch with variable curvature while both the prime and quadratic arched members are considered as the tapered arch with variable curvature while both the prime and quadratic arched members are considered as the tapered arch. Comparisons the natural jfrequencies between this study and finite element method SAP 90 seve to validate the numerical method developed herein. The lowest four natural frequencies are reported as a function of four non-dimensional system parameters. The effects of both the rotatory inertia and cross-sectional shape are reported. Also, the typical mode shapes of stress resultants as well as the displacements are reported.
This study was conducted to investigate into the distribution of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in the greenhouse soils grown strawberry plants in Damyang and Jangheung districts. Twenty three soil samples were collected from strawberry plants under greenhouse conditions, and mycorrhizal spores in soils were separated using wet-sieving methods. Number of mycorrhizal spores per 30g fresh soil sized over 500${\mu}$m, 355~500${\mu}$m, 251~354${\mu}$m, 107~250${\mu}$m and $45{\sim}106{\mu}m$ were 0.3, 1.0, 4.2, 50.4 and 119, etc. Total number of spores per 30g fresh soil were l73.9. Root infection by vesicles and hyphae were 25% and 4%, respectively. Mycorrhizal root infection by arbuscules was not shown in strawberry roots. Isolated mycorrhizal spores were inoculated into the host plant of sudangrass to identify the genus of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, and propagated for 4 months. As a result of identification, mass propagated mycorrhizal spores were Glomus sp., Gigaspora sp., and Acaulospora sp., and so on.
This study purposed to survey grandparents' difficulties in parenting their grand children at grandparent-grandchild households in South Jeolla rural areas. This study was conducted through in-depth interviews from January to October, 2008. The subjects were eight grandparents living with their grandchildren in Boseong-gun, Gangjin-gun, Yeonggwang-gun, Hampyeong-gun, Haenam-gun and Damyang-gun in South Jeolla province. The results are as follows: the grandparents' difficulties in parenting grandchildren are divided into four categories of variable factors: 'Difficulties related to grandparents themselves'; 'Difficulties related to their grandchildren'; 'Difficulties related to early childhood education institution: and 'Difficulties related to their grandchildren's peer group or surrounding people'. The main difficulties in these categories are 'poor, aging and weak conditions of grandparents: 'conflicts in their parenting attitude to have compassion on grandchildren: 'grandparents' not enough educational support to grandchildren due to their ignorance about today's education system: and 'anxiety about the possibility for their grandchildren to be abandoned once again.' These results can be used as a piece of basic information for desirable supports to grandparent-grandchild households.
Carbonization characteristics of Indonesian bamboos were investigated using lab-scale tube furnace, in order to find optimum design temperature of a carbonizer for producing bamboo charcoal and vinegar. The bamboo samples used in this study are local bamboos from Damyang in Korea, Andong and Petung in Indonesia. Correlation of electric resistance, specific surface area and pH of bamboo vinegar with pyrolysis temperature has been investigated. Electric resistance of the charcoal increased for higher pyrolysis temperature the specific surface area was also increased as carbonization temperature got higher. Charcoal which has specific surface area of over $300\;m^2/g$ could be produced at $700^{\circ}C$. pH of bamboo vinegar was decreased for highter carbonization temperature and vinegar under pH 3 could be produced for all bamboo samples. In this experimental condition, it was found that lower carbonization temperature is better for producing bamboo vinegar of high quality, while higher temperature is better for obtaining bamboo charcoal with larger surface.

EM (ElectroMagnetic) pump is used for the purpose of transporting liquid sodium coolant with electrical conductivity in the LMR(Liquid Metal Reactor). (In the present study, pilot EM pump has been designed by using of equivalent circuit method which is commonly employed to analyze linear induction machines for the test of removal of residual heat. The length and diameter of the pump have fixed values of 840 mm and 101.6 mm each by taking account of geometrical size of circulation loop for the installation of EM pump. Flowrate versus developing pressure is related from Laithwaite's standard design formula and the characteristic analyses of developing force and efficiency are carried out according to change of input frequency. From the characteristic curve, input frequency of 13 Hz is determined as the design frequency. On the other hand, The annular air gap size of 6.05 mm is selected not to bring about too much hydraulic loss. Resultantly design analysis makes pump have the electrical input of 604 VA and the hydrodynamical capacity of 1.3 bars and 40 l/min.
The bureaucrat-scholars, ruling class of the Choseon Dynasty, used to build small private pavilions for rest and study for themselves. In the early period of the Dynasty, the pavilions had plain shapes with rectangular plan and simple wooden structure without any walls so as to enjoy the surrounding scenery. From the 16th century, the building form began to change into some diverse one by putting in an ondol room, an unique floor heating equipment. The pavilions also began to show regional differences by placing the ondol rooms in the floor. Myonang-jong, a pavilion occupied by a famous bureaucrat-scholar Song Soon, was built at Damyang of the southwest part of the Korean peninsula, so called Honam area, in 1533. At first, the building form followed the ordinary early pavilion shape using simple wooden structure and wooden floor. But when it was rebuilt in 1654 after burning down by war, there happened some changes. An ondol room was put in the center of the floor, of which regarded as a dominant regional characteristic of the Honam area. The change of the building form of Myonang-jong showed that it was the 17th century Honam area got the regional characteristic in the architecture of pavilion.
Soshaewon(瀟灑園) is the historical relic No. 34, and located in the upper part of Kwangju-dam in Damyang. It is a Byulseo-garden(別墅庭園), a retreated garden near residence, that is constructed by Yang San-Bo(梁山甫, 1503-1557) in 1530's. That is to say, Soshaewon is a space of life that is situated near the village called Changam-chon(蒼岩村), and a place to study, lecture and importune among literary men. Therefore, we can see that it is of great significance in the architectural, landscape architectural, and literary aspects. This paper is based on the 'Pictorial Map of Soshaewon(瀟灑園圖, 1775)' and 'Forty- eight Poems(四十八詠)' composed by Kim In-Who(金麟厚) in 1548. The 'Pictorial Map of Soshaewon' which describes a vestige of Soshaewon makes it easy to understand the composition of space, by offering the important clues to the prototype of Soshaewon. Moreover, 'Forty-eight Poems' are very valuable references from which we can consider an ideal and internal meaning of Soshaewon. In this paper, the central objective is to observe the consitituents of architectural space of Soshaewon; architectural, stone-built, water-spacial, landscape architectural, external- garden and behavioral elements. The research on Soshaewon is to be processed gradually in the future, but this paper is limited only to the areas presented in the 'Pictorial Map of Soshaewon' and "Forty-eight Poems."
