  • All around tile world there has been great human and economical damage continuously by disasters like the earthquakes and storms(Tsunami) in eastern asia which recently occurred, and like the New Orleams hurricane in USA. The situation is our countries damage from natural disasters due to heavy snow, storms, forest fires have been increasing In this research we obtained GSIS data of the 05' Yang-yang forest fire disaster area using multi-sensors like airborne laser data, GPS/INS, aerial photograph surveying. In result we produced digital topographical maps, digital elevation models, digital external models, digital images, infrared images. By, analyzing and comparing with past aerial photography we obtained the exact damage area, amount of damage, estimated tile areas where a landslide might occur, and we analyzed vegetations amount of damage and possibility of recovery.

  • This paper is estimation of structure damage caused by Explosion in LPG(Liquefied Petroleum Gas) filling station. As we estimate the influence of damage which occur at gas storage tank in filling station. We can utilize the elementary data of safety distance. In this study, the influence of over-pressure caused by VCE(Vapor Cloud Explosion) in filling station was calculated by using the Hopkinson's scaling law and the accident damage was estimated by applying the influence on the adjacent structure into the probit model. As a result of the damage estimation conducted by using the probit model, both the damage possibility of explosion overpressure to structures of max 265 meters away and to glass bursting of 1150 meters away was nearly zero in open space explosion.

  • The possibility of using the alkaline protocol of the single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) assay as a method for detecting induced DNA damage has been studied for six major plants. The EMS was applied as a model genotoxic agent on young excised leaves of the tested crops for 18 h at 26$^{\circ}C$ in the dark. With increasing concentrations of 0 to 10 mM EMS, the DNA damage, expressed by the averaged median tail moment values, significantly increased in nuclei of all plants studied. As the results, no correlation between the diameter of nuclei and sensitivity to EMS treatment was observed. The data obtained demonstrate the feasibility of using the SCGE assay for detecting induced DNA damage in plants.

  • This study investigated the durability of the under bar of a car through structural and fatigue analysis. Model 1 had the lowest value among three kinds of models. In the case of the maximum equivalent stress and displacement at structural analysis, model 1 showed the highest durability. Also, models 3 and 2 showed structural durability in order of this value. In the case of fatigue analysis, the maximum fatigue lives of the three models were equal to $2{\times}10^7$cycles. However, model 1 showed the highest value among the three models, as the minimum fatigue life of model 1 becames 92.56 cycles. Also models 3 and 2 showed fatigue durability in order of this value. The maximum possibility of fatigue damage for models1,2,and 3 became 30%. If the results of this study are applied to change the design shape of the under bar of cars, the ride comfort for automobile passengers and car durability can be improved.

  • In this paper, the researcher looked into major issues in the "Act (Draft) on Remedy for Damage from Medical Accident and Medical Dispute Mediation, etc." which was proposed by the Health & Welfare Committee, the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, and which was pending with the Legislation & Judiciary Committee. Then the researcher pointed out worrisome problems therein and presented suggestion" to improve problematic situations. First of all, the researcher examined the following items which are major points in the aforementioned Act: 1) Establishment of Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Center, 2) Procedures for mediation and arbitration of medical disputes, 3) Establishment of Medical Injury Compensation Association, 4) Introduction of proxy payment for damages, 5) Compensation for no-fault medical accidents, 6) A system concerned with special cases on criminal punishment. Next, the researcher closely reviewed the following possible issues: 1) Limit of arbitrary mediation, 2) Postponement of the system concerned with special case on criminal punishment, 3) Examination of reasons for rejection, 4) Function and role of the Appraisal department, 5) A possibility of being reduced to an evidence collection procedure for lawsuit, 6) A possibility of no-fault compensation rather than injury compensation, 7) Operational issues related proxy payment for damages. Lastly, the researcher presented suggestions on how to improve each problematic issue.

  • The dominant incidents category for onshore and offshore natural gas transmission pipelines in the world is associated with outside forces. Incidents in the outside forces category embrace acts of nature, which typically cause widespread structural damage, as well as act of man, whose effects tend to cause dents and/or gouges localized at point of contact that are referred to as mechanical damage. Therefore, these damage types must be better addressed to avoid unnecessary and costly repairs and the possibility of catastrophic events. First of all, the characterizing features of mechanical damage in gas pipelines were evaluated by using of excavator or boring machine. There is no reliable method for evaluating the safe operating pressure of pipeline affected by mechanical damage. It is especially important to evaluate the remaining strength of damaged pipelines due to outside force. Therefore, the full scale burst tests were conducted to evaluate the remaining strength of pipe with mechanical damage that combines a dent and a gouge. This paper is supposed to provide information that will assist in developing a criterion to assess serviceability in pipelines with mechanical damage.

  • Pipe wall thinning caused by erosion and corrosion can adversely affect the operation of aged nuclear power plants. Some injured workers owing to pipe rupture has been reported and power reduction caused by unexpected pipe damage has been occurred consistently. Therefore, it is important to develop erosion-corrosion damage prediction model and investigate its mechanisms. Especially, liquid droplet impingement erosion(LDIE) is regarded as the main issue of pipe wall thinning management. To investigate LDIE mechanism with corrosion environment, we developed erosion-corrosion damage simulation apparatus and its capability has been verified through the preliminary damage experiment of 6061-Al alloy. The apparatus design has been based on ASTM standard test method, G73-10, that use high-speed rotator and enable to simulate water hammering and droplet impingement. The preliminary test results showed mass loss of 3.2% in conditions of peripheral speed of 110m/s, droplet size of 1mm-diameter, and accumulated time of 3 hours. In this study, the apparatus design revealed feasibility of LDIE damage simulation and provided possibility of accelerated erosion-corrosion damage test by controlling water chemistry.

  • This study provides considerations for quantitative risk assessment of landslide on GIS technology. It shows how the landslide possibility analysis is linked by GIS modeling to provide loss estimation tools for landslide hazards in support of socio-economic loss reduction efforts. Those risk assessment results can deliver factual damage situation prediction to policy making for the landslide damage mitigation.
