When people think about stress, they usually consider it as negative. However, stress can be both positive and negative. Positive stress is referred to as eustress, while negative stress is called distress. Stress is derived from the change which can be either positive or negative. Change is an inevitable aspect of life; therefore, people cannot avoid stress. Police works create a lot of stress among officers because of job characteristics. Police works require both physical and emotional strains. These strains lead to stress of officers. Danger, frustration, excessive paperwork, the daily demands of the job, and a lack of understanding from family members, friends, and the public are major causes of stress among police officers. The American Institute of Stress in New York ranks police job among the top ten stress-producing jobs in the United States. In this study, the author proposes the ways of stress management among police officers based on the medical model and the organizational health model. In the medical model, the author introduces the elimination, coping, and counseling as a way of dealing stress as an individual level. In the organizational health model, the author proposes following recommendations from the administrative point of view: 1) rationalization of personnel management system, 2) improvement of the welfare, 3) democratic management of police organization, 4) maintenance of a good partnership with citizens, and 5) development of stress management program for police family members.

Purpose: This descriptive study investigated the relation between nursing students' emotional intelligence and self-esteem. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was employed. The subjects were 323 students from a nursing college in B City. Data were collected using questionnaires on emotional intelligence and self-esteem from October to December, 2014. Results: The nursing students scored 3.61 out of 5 in emotional intelligence and 2.92 out of 4 in self-esteem. There were significant differences between emotional intelligence and self-esteem according to age, gender, daily life stress, satisfaction with the nursing major, learning stress, subjective academic achievement, and peer relationships. Emotional intelligence also showed significant differences in accordance with the motivation to choose the nursing major and the field in high school. Positive correlations were observed between emotional intelligence and self-esteem in nursing students. Conclusions: Based on those findings, it is necessary to develop and apply an array of educational programs to help nursing students improve their emotional intelligence and self-esteem throughout the college curriculum. These efforts will also be effective in building their satisfaction with the nursing major and view of nursing profession.
Quality of life today is being enhanced through technology and economic activities, but time for leisure has continued to shrink. In this modern society, a phenomenon is appearing in which people are trying to return to their pure and childlike worlds to relieve themselves from the pressures of stress, anxiety, and feelings of crisis in their repetitive and boring daily lives. Along with the struggle for existence that they feel, this shows how modern people hold on to nostalgic elements experienced in their childhood, and have a tendency to want to express those experiences through consumer activities. As positive opinions stating that such consumer activities not only relieve stress, but also help psychological stability are emerging, consumer trends for the development of fashion products which reflect 'Kidult' emotions are becoming increasingly popular. Not only that, with interior products, the need for the development of differentiated designs which are focused on consumers and which reflect consumer demands is being magnified as they are very important as living designs within the consumption environments of modern people. As such, the goal of this study is to develop textile pattern designs for kidult interior products for adults.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of postural habits and stress on low back pain experienced by nursing students. Methods: The survey was conducted with 282 students at 5 nursing schools in Seoul, Incheon, Chungcheongbuk, and Jeollabuk Province. Data were collected from October, 2013 to January, 2014. Data analyses including descriptive analysis, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Spearman's rank correlation coefficients, and multiple regression were performed using SPSS 21.0. Results: In multiple regression, habit of standing on force of one feet (${\beta}=.23$, p<.001), habit of sleeping on one's back (${\beta}=-.19$, p=.020), habit of resting the chin on one's hands (${\beta}=.15$, p=.029), and habit of carrying a bag on one shoulder (${\beta}=.12$, p=.011) were associated with low back pain experienced by nursing students. These factors accounted for 12.9% of the variance in the low back pain in undergraduate students. Conclusion: These results suggest that low back pain in nursing students are related to their habits of posture in daily life. Therefore, intervention program to encourage healthy postural habits can be effective to prevent low back pain in nursing students.

As the spread of COVID-19 continues, cleanliness and quarantine are emphasized in daily life. If foreign substances enter through the shoe sole when using public facilities, cleanliness may deteriorate and various infections may occur. To prevent this, shoe sole cleaners that filter out foreign substances have been developed. In this study, a design that satisfies structural safety was presented by selecting a new material and updating the design parameter to reduce the weight of the shoe sole cleaner. To evaluate the structural safety, a finite element analysis under selected design loads was performed. Through design improvement and stress analysis, a model that was approximately 85% lighter than the existing model was developed.
In this study, a horticultural therapy program was performed by employing the anger experienced by people during daily life activities in the emotion regulation strategy-based program to identify the influence of the horticultural program on anger control in the caregivers for patients with dementia. To measure this influence, two tools were used: a self-administered questionnaire survey, which is a subjective test, and an instrumental test, which can measure the physical index that detects the physical changes through anger. For the preliminary test, depression, stress, self-esteem, anxiety, and anger state-characteristic were tested using the self-administered questionnaire. For the follow-up test, the self-administered survey and the test using the physical index were performed in a manner similar to that of the preliminary test. The self-administered questionnaire comprised questions suitable to this study and considered the age, education level, and economic aspect of the subjects. The test results indicated that the experimental group subjected to the emotion regulation strategy-based horticultural therapy showed very significant reduction in depression and anger and significant reduction in stress, self-esteem, and anxiety. In the physical index test, the systolic and diastolic blood pressures were reduced, and the pulse rate and respiration rate reduced before and after the therapy, thus, proving the effectiveness of the therapy in anger control.
Depression is a psychiatric disorder characterized by depressed mood, anhedonia, fatigue, and altered cognitive function, leading to a decline in daily functioning. In addition, depression is a serious and common mental illness not only in an individual's life but also in society, so it must be actively treated. Autophagy is involved in the pathophysiological mechanism of mental illness. According to a recent study, it is known that autophagy-induced apoptosis affects neuroplasticity and causes depression and that antidepressants regulate autophagy. Autophagy is a catabolic process that degradation and removes unnecessary organelles or proteins through a lysosome. And, it is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis. Autophagy is activated in stress conditions, and depression is a stress-related disease. Stress causes damage to cellular homeostasis. Recently, although the role of autophagy mechanisms in neurons has been investigated, the autophagy of depression has not been fully studied. This review highlights the new evidence for the involvement of autophagy in the pathophysiological mechanisms and treatment of depression. To highlight the evidence, we present results from clinical and preclinical studies showing that autophagy is associated with depression. Understanding the relevance of autophagy to depression and the limitations of research suggest that autophagy regulation may provide a new direction for antidepressant development.
Objective: The present study investigated the litter performance of multiparous sows fed 3% and 6% densified diets at farrowing to weaning during summer with mean maximum room temperature of $30.5^{\circ}C$. Methods: A total of 60 crossbred multiparous sows were allotted to one of three treatments based on body weight according to a completely randomized design. Three different nutrient levels based on NRC were applied as standard diet (ST; metabolizable energy, 3,300 kcal/kg), high nutrient level 1 (HE1; ST+3% higher energy and 16.59% protein) and high nutrient level 2 (HE2; ST+6% higher energy and 17.04% protein). Results: There was no variation in the body weight change. However, backfat thickness change tended to reduce in HE1 in comparison to ST treatment. Dietary treatments had no effects on feed intake, daily energy intake and weaning-to-estrus interval in lactating sows. Litter size, litter weight at weaning and average daily gain of piglets were significantly greater in sows in HE1 compared with ST, however, no difference was observed between HE2 and ST. Increasing the nutrient levels had no effects on the blood urea nitrogen, glucose, triglyceride, and creatinine at post-farrowing and weaning time. The concentration of follicle stimulating hormone, cortisol and insulin were not affected by dietary treatments either in post-farrowing or weaning time. The concentration of blood luteinizing hormone of sows in ST treatment was numerically less than sows in HE2 treatment at weaning. Milk and colostrum compositions such as protein, fat and lactose were not affected by the treatments. Conclusion: An energy level of 3,400 kcal/kg (14.23 MJ/kg) with 166 g/kg crude protein is suggested as the optimal level of dietary nutrients for heat stressed lactating sows with significant beneficial effects on litter size.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of scores on the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) among foreign exchange students on academic adaptation. Recruited students, approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), totaled seven, and their interview contents were analyzed using a comprehensive analysis procedure based on pragmatic eclecticism (Lee, Kim, 2014), utilizing six stages. As a result, factors influencing academic adaptation of Korean language learners for academic purposes were categorized into three dimensions: academic, daily life, and psychological-emotional aspects. On the academic front, interviewees pointed out difficulties in adapting to specialized terminology and studying in their majors, as well as experiencing significant challenges with Chinese characters and Sino-Korean words. Next, from a daily life perspective, even participants holding advanced TOPIK scores faced difficulties in adapting to university life, emphasizing the necessity of practical expressions and extensive vocabulary for proper adjustment to Korean life. Lastly, within the psychological-emotional dimension, despite being advanced TOPIK holders, they were found to experience considerable stress in conversations or presentations with Koreans. Their lack of knowledge in social-cultural and everyday life culture also led to linguistic errors and contributed to psychological-emotional difficulties, despite proficiency in Korean. Based on these narratives, the conclusion was reached that in order to promote the academic adaptation of Korean language learners, it is essential to provide opportunities for Korean language learning. With this goal in mind, efforts should be directed towards enhancing learners' academic proficiency in their majors, improving Korean language fluency, and fostering interpersonal relationships within the academic community. Furthermore, the researchers suggested as a solution to implement various extracurricular activities tailored for foreign learners.
